Wicked finally getting some mods.....whadda think?

Recommended Posts

Getting upper/lower control arms, adj panhard bar, lower camber bolts, Steeda carbon fiber elbow, custom tune(s) w/dyno, 35% tint.....

anyone out there have the Steeda elbow? carbon fiber?

Was thinking about 4:10 gears......will it inhibit my driving around town? on the highway? gas mileage?

RPM's at 70 in fifth gear?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Sounds like fun :happy feet: I would do the rear end pieces one at a time after issues I and others have had. The gears will make a big difference and be fun you will pay a little mileage penalty. With overdrive its not like the old days, your RPM's still stay reasonably low on the freeway.

If I where you I would go with 3.73 gears.

+1 I wouldn't go with 4.10 gears unless your going to race on the drag strip only...a little too high for every day use...I have 3.73's in my 96 GT and it's great in it, but it also has lower horsepower than the Shelby GT...

Hey is that gift certificate burning a hole in your pocket!!!

A custom tune on a dyno (by the right person) is money well spent.

4.10's --- see this post: ---> http://forum.teamshelby.com/forums/index.p...st&p=380714

If you get stiffer upper/lower control arms you should consider getting the LCA relocation brackets also. The geometry (instant center) of the LCA's is off due to the SGT's being lowered. Also you should think about getting an adjustable UCA if are going to replace the stock one.

A carbon fiber elbow is more of an aesthetic upgrade than a performance upgrade but they do look nice.

Caution: Mods spawn more mods... as soon as you think you are done you are ready to start again.

Good Luck...

I'm thinking you have too much money and an event coming that should be taking up more of it!

This is why I hold off on any mods... LCA? UCA? EIEIO?

go with the 410's.a 373 is not much difference than what you already have.if you had 331's then you would notice a difference with 373's but with 355's you want to really tell the difference.are you going to be just cruisin around or on the open road a lot.i bet you will still get over 20mpg on the road with 410's.

The jury is still out, was thinking 373's would not be significant enough to justify the cost cause I already have 355's. That has me leaning towards the 4;10's.

But then, the car is really used much more on twisties than the drag strip, will the 4:10 inhibit the car on the highway, racetrack or just carving up curves in general?

hence my dilemma!

Hey buddy,

burning a hole, you got that right.

about 2 weeks before I take her in for the work, I agree the tune is my first priority, just trying to add some goodies to get the most out of that money being spent.

So do you agree with Stump 4:10 accessment?

Some have said, dont do it unless you are going to drag race exclusively!

I dont want to ruin the top end in exchange for bottom grunt.

Drag racing will only be once in a while, running on the open road will be a much more frequent past time. Whats your opinion/advise Dr.?

The UCA arms are adjustable and I thought they were relocating the UCA, not the lower, I'll have to check.

Let me know on the 4:10s! and thanks.

Very funny, but.....the rational here is to spend some money on things that wont all be taking place in one day and then be over.

And these mods are Dale approved.

Thank You Honey!

Yes I agree with Stump 100% but they are not for everybody. The 4.10's are good for aggressive driving, quick launches/acceleration and running quickly through all the gears, not just at the drag strip.

It's a driving style preference I guess. I drive my car everyday but very little highway driving. My shift light is set at 6300 RPM's and I hit it all the time. I did drive 2.5 hours up to Gainesville on I-75 last weekend to go to the Gator Nationals and I was in 5th gear on crusie control most of the way at ~75-80 MPH at ~2500 RPM's and I averaged ~21.5 MPG.

If you could find somebody with a car that already has them installed I'd try driving that first and then see how you like it...

Cuda..your car looks awesome in that picture ! Nice shine ! I am getting my car done by a guy in my car club that has a black cobra. His car looked soooo good at a show last week...and he details on the side...so I am saving my elbows and paying him lol.

Ok..back to Michaels mods :hysterical3::hysterical:

i notice knowone mentions 390gears. i considered these gears because they are right between the 355's and 410's.i talked to a well known gear shop in the area and they told me that you can only get foreign gears in the 390's.i asked what kind they were and was told they are motive.the problem he said with them is that they sometimes make a noise and they would not garantee against that.i guess you could get louder mufflers.anyway if these cars came with 373's then i doubt hardly anyone would want to change them.the price is about the same no matter what gear you go to.if you don't like the gear you pick then it will only cost you about 600.00 to redo but it would probably take away from other mods.mod money is hard to come by.good luck.
