gofastguy
My install of the take-off GT fog lights is now complete and I think it looks great. It was definitely not a plug and play, but didn't require massive fabrication either. All fabrication was to the fog light brackets. I may not have done the install if it would have required any cutting or grinding of the vehicle. If anyone is interested in doing this mod, I would be happy to share what I have learned to hopefully make it go a bit easier for them.

gofastguy
are these the same as installed at SAI? Pictures? Thanx Steve I put in take-off GT fogs from a regular GT Mustang behind our Shelby grill. Will try to do some pics soon. Pics are always a challenge for me to get posted... i would be interested. i like the factory fog lights, and i guess you put them back somewhere close to the factory location and use the factory wiring pigtails. the grill surround is chopped up by shelby during the grill install, so you must have fabbed up some sort of bracket to hold the lights in the old openings?? just asking? I used the original Mustang GT fog light brackets, recessed 1 inch. I had to remove one of the four screw attachment points and do a bit of grinding to get them to fit. The best thing, as I mentioned, is that the only grinding or alteration I did was to the fog light brackets which I was adding on. Mine had the part of the original grille where the fog lights were mounted intact--I think somewhere along the line (maybe the '08's?) they started doing the grilles a little different. Unlike the 07, the on the 08 there is no cut grill behind the Shelby grill so if this uses the old fog light bezel in the GT grill it won't work for the 08's. However you do have the light connectors tied up behind the grill.

Sorry, no I meant I suspect from what it sounds like he did, it won't work on an 08. The 07 has the old GT light housing intact behind the shelby grill and it sounds like he did a bit of work to put them back in which of course won't work on an 08. gofastguy
Here are some pics of the finished product. The ones I took of the lights and the grille before it was re-installed seem to have not transferred properly. I like it because you keep your original Shelby look during the day, but have the GT fog lights to use other times. I kind of prefer our front look to the ones with the little SAI fog lights.[/img][/img]

gofastguy
GREAT! Now tell us what all is involved in doing this! I'm interested... Since a couple folks seem interested, I will try to write down how I did this to save them some of the trial and error work. I must apologize that for some reason the pics I had of the grille in progress did not seem to make it out of the camera. First off, this will only be an easy install on the SGT's that have the ragged cut off GT grille in place behind the new SGT one. I used take-off GT fogs that you can acquire for around $70 to $100 (mine came from CJ Pony Parts). First, you have to remove the grille (duh!) I covered the bumper area in front of it to avoid scratching the top of the bumper when removing it and test fitting it. The aluminum angle pieces which attach our grille to the original GT grille were in the way, so I removed them and re-attached the SGT grille using four 5/16 in mirror clips from the hardware drawers at Home Depot (one of them had to be ground away a bit). I found that a one inch recess would allow the GT fogs to mount behind our grill, so I used one inch nylon spacers, also from Home Depot to recess the lights far enough and attached them with 1 1/2 in stainless screws. Don't bother with the lower attachment of the fog light bracket towards the outside of the car since it needs to be removed for clearance. The final step is just grinding away some of the plastic mounting brackets where necessary to get a nice fit. The necessary grinding was on the upper area of the fog light bracket where it made contact with the radiator support. I took my time and only ground as much as I had to, since I had already removed one of the four attachment points. There seem to be two fuses or relays. Mine had the big one in the #30 spot intact, I just had to re-insert the little 15 amp fuse to make them work. Hope this helps anyone interested in doing this little mod! gofastguy
I can't for the life of me get the pic I have of the fog lights lit to upload, but they look great!! I can't believe I didn't get any compliments on my lovely (not!) front plate mounting set up. My car didn't come with too many options, but it did come with the big black license plate mounting thing already screwed to the bumper by the dealer before I got there to buy it. Yes the wire harness is still there, and yes the switch is on the dash. Had our lower fogs installed @SAI, but if my memory serves me right, (which doesn't a lot of times) that SAI pulls the fuse on cars that don't have lower fogs installed, so you might check that out. Hope this helps.

Radical08
If you check out my post 'Grill Install and Fab Complete" there are several pics that show the grill and it removed and I believe the 2 wire harness connectors for fog lights. The switch does activate them. Also the fuse is removed in the engine area fuse holder. Easy as pie to install especiall if using a stock set up. Mine had the Shelby Grill / PIAA lights so slightly different but the post hows it all.

The tabs are actually on the bumper cover, and hold the grille surround. You have to pry the tabs to pry out the grille surround. It looks like maybe warm the tabs with a glue gun or hair dryer before bending them? sure looks like the job is pretty easy (wiring done) but it also looks like one of those deals where you can easily break the stupid non-serviceable plastic tabs on the bumper cover. i have done other cars with these tabs, there was a learning curve for each design it seems

I just pryed them up bit with a small screwdriver in the slot on the side of them. Not a problem at all.
