ShadowLands
Wanted to let the Shelby GT crowd know about this new power adder system on the market. I recently had the new Team Performance Products "Heritage Twin Turbo System" installed on my stock '07 GT. This kit comes with two Garrett GT2871R dual ball bearing 54 mm turbos which are mounted down around the transmission. A carbon fiber belly pan comes with the kit to keep water and road debris out of the air cleaners. The only thing we added to the car was a single GT supercar fuel pump. We only had time for two dyno pulls before we had to leave for Florida so the shop made sure it was nice and safe for the initial outing at FFW Orlando. When I say my car is stock.....I mean 100% dead bone stock as delivered from Ford. Richard Lelsz of Strictly Performance in Houston, Texas did the initial tune. We are at 11.5:1 A/F ratio, 10 degrees timing, and 8 pounds of boost. At Orlando the car ran a best of 11.75 @ 123.58 mph in a 3865 pound Mustang GT. We need to work on the tune a little to get more low speed power but a converter is essential for drag racing. For street driving.....not needed. Turbos come up on boost around 2500 rpm and pull all the way through the traps. I drove the car home from Strictly and in Orlando to get the drag radials mounted. Unless you put your foot down you don't even know the turbos are there. Smooth as a stocker. Lots of fun when you find a freeway on-ramp though. The designer of this system, Rick Head of Exile Turbo Systems/Team Performance Products, has the same system installed on his Shelby GT and drives the car almost daily with no problems. I feel that with a higher stall speed converter and some additional tuning we should be able to lay down a solid 11-teen or 11-twenty pass at close to 125 mph. Maybe even a "10"! Then drive it out the gates with the A/C and stereo going while getting 24 mpg on the way home. The beauty of the kit is that there is absolutely no cutting or hacking of the car for the installation. Unbolt the stock exhaust at the manifolds and behind the converters then bolt the system onto the car. Very easy to return the car to stock form later on if necessary. With the turbos mounted down low the system is very stealthy. I had one experienced competitor convinced that all I had was a cold air induction system installed on the car. Right up until we ran against each other in qualifying. His Whipple supercharger-equipped Roush Mustang had nothing for the twin 54mm turbos and I outran him by over 10 mph. Pricing on the kit has not been finalized yet but should be between $8,000 and $9,000. I'll have pictures of the setup on my car in a few days and there should be pictures of the installed kit on Rick's Shelby up on the site soon. Team Performance has the car at their shop in California so we can install a converter, roll bar, and Metco rear suspension pieces. Did you weigh it and, if so, was that before or after the install? Thanks. Jim

LuLu
The topic of turbocharging has come up here (and the old site) a few times, but it dies quickly. I don't get that, it's free horsepower when compared to supercharging. I think it's value is grossly misunderstood by many. How does your system fare with manual trannies? TheKurgan
Looks kind of expensive considering you can get the same HP(if not more) from a HO whipple and spend less money. Is that price installed ?
mastersmech1
Is that price installed ? I wouldn't think so. Not compared to what I've priced out.

Is that price installed ? $8,544 is the kit only. I was told ~$900 to install the single turbo kit, ~$1,800 to install the TT kit. A Squires rep told me the T3/T4 model twin turbos are 32mm, each filter comes with a cover (outer wear dry charger), and you don't have to remove the wheel to change the filter. Is that price installed ? Penny for penny, you may have a point. However, 11.75/122 MPH on 8 pounds of boost means less risk to a stock engine. How much performance would you predict from a positive displacment blower on an 8 pound pulley?
torquewrench1807
And all of that weighs how much? Jim Squires rep told me the kit weights a total of ~125 lb's. Each twin turbo weights ~12 lb's. Below are dyno sheets posted on the STS website:
