motorjock205
Just got back from our first road trip in the Shelby. Left Friday afternoon and drove from Odessa, TX to Dallas, TX. Car did VERY well on the road, got good gas mileage with the cruise on, and turned heads everywhere we stopped. Had to stop at a little convenience store so wife could use the restroom, and a couple of guys pulled up beside the car in a pickup and asked if they could take a look at the car. Sure! They were very impressed...Next stop was in Abilene for dinner. After dinner, pulled into a service station to gas up, and as I was wiping a few bugs off of the windshield, a little boy about 6 or 7 years old said "Sir!" I looked over at him and he gave me a thumbs up and said "Cool Car!" His dad and a few others came over and were checking the car out and gave out some very nice compliments... Saturday morning, I met up with my son and daughter in Arlington for breakfast...My son is 21 years old and absolutely LOVES Mustangs...He was about to drool all over the car until I took him for a ride and I think it will be a few weeks before he's able to wipe the smile off of his face! While we were in the parking lot looking at the car, a couple of guys came through in a late 2000 model Mustang and drove by, then pulled back up behind the car and the driver said "Man, I'm getting a boner just looking at it!" Well, thanks, but just a little too much information dude!!! LOL Oh well, came back home today in a very high cross wind situation...mileage suffered a little from that, but the car did pretty well even in the wind... I must say that the ride quality is NOT made for comfort on the open highway...You can and will feel every bump in the road, ripple, rock and bug that you run over, but the handling is GREAT!!! If you want to jerk it around and hit some quick corners, this is the car for you, Hands Down! By the way, overall average on the MPG was 25.3 and that included some heavy romping on it in the city...so I'm HAPPY :-)

ilmor
Sounds like a great trip! I actually put about 15 miles on mine this weekend (wow). Running thru the snowmelt puddles wasn't too pleasant though and now it needs a good washing, but I had to get out in it!! And yes, the mpg's on these cars never ceases to amaze me; the guzzler tax is highway robbery.
