GT500KR rear spoiler question

Recommended Posts

Is the rear spoiler for the 2008 GT500KR the same as the 2007-2008 V6 (Pony Package) spoiler?

Thanks and BTW I had a great time at the Shelby tour in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.

Hello Barry,

The rear spoiler on the KR is from the V6 Mustangs; note that the front splitter extends out farther than on a GT500. These changes were made to improve the aerodynamic balance of the car and help limit understeer when cornering at high speeds.

I disagree that "the rear spoiler on the KR is from the V6 Mustangs." See the attached pic of the spoiler on a 2008 Mustang GT. It is clearly different from the one on the KR. The spoiler on the Mustang GT is raised above the trunk deck as compared to the one on the KR as well. They are both flatter than the one on the GT500 but are definitely not the same.

The article FORD SHELBY GT500KR ROARS INTO PRODUCTION states, "A new front splitter design works with the hood and revised rear spoiler to deliver these benefits."

That is a GT Mustang. The V6 Mustang has a diiferent spoiler which looks exactly like the one shown above on the KR.

I like the GT500 spoiler much better.

Yup, my error!

Thanks for the correction ShelbyDude.

Ever the eternal optimist, when the article stated "revised rear spoiler", I misinterpreted that to mean that Ford / SAI had done something special specifically for the KR. Apparently, they have not!

Even if that is the case, can't you come up with something unique for the KR? I mean, having someone pay top dollar for a Mustang and then give it part of the V6 trim? Talk about cutting corners. At least have the duck tail from the GT500.

I don't know why Ford changed the spoiler on the V6. It use to be the same as the GT, but they changed to that flatter looking thing and I don't like it at all.

The GT500 spoiler is by far the best. That V6 spoiler is ugly and does not look good at all.

I totally agree with Shelby Dude. The best looking spoiler is the one found on the GT500. I can understand the argument about handling dictating a different aero package, but I would have thought that with their engineering resources, Ford could have come up with something better looking and more original while still achieving the desired effect from a handling standpoint.

Thank you. I'm flattered that the Shelby Team has chosen this spoiler and for those GT500 owners that have never bothered to look at the V6 Pony Package, here is a picture of mine :D
