bull
i dont know..but motor trend did have an article this month that gt500 is a go for 2009 through at least 2011 (strong demand..huge sales)....they also hinted at a possible gt350...which is great news....the most interesting tidbit was rumor about gt500 (base-if we should ever even call the gt500 base) getting the KR 540HP ponies....i dont know...but looks like some real kewl stuff is just around the corner
JonW
Motor Trend is consistently wrong. What do you expect out of a rag that named the Vega the Car of tthe Year?
ntsck
Anyone who thought the GT500 was only for 07/08 and was some kind of "limited edition" was fooling themselves. The S197 GT500 will be the most common SVT product ever made, at the end of the 08 run there will already be more of them than there are terminators ( ~18.5k total 03/04 Cobras ). By the end of MY 2009 I'd wager 30,000 GT500's will be in the wild.

mach1fever
I confirmed this through a ford engineer and a vp down here showing the 2007 before its release. About two weeks ago my dealer contact called and said his zone rep confirmed as well. The writings on the wall. I posted this throughout the forum. JonW
Anything that was said more than 6 months ago is out the window. The new CAFE regs have changed everything. I'm not saying there will or won't be an '09 GT500, but only that the OEMs are taking a very close look at any V8-powered model. GM has scrapped plans to build a GTO or Firebird variant of the Camaro. Dodge has announced the Viper will go away at the end of the current production cycle. Everything is up in the air right now, nothing is sacred.

They are definitely building an 09 gt500 and some shelby car for 2010- per amy president of sai...its in her forum section, and she has verified that. Ford isnt going to shut down production of a vehicle mid production stream anyway. The new regs wont take effect for some time...and camaro is just getting ready for production...muscle cars wont go bye bye, if the big three wont make them...someone else will! JonW
muscle cars wont go bye bye, if the big three wont make them...someone else will! Maybe. But V8 musclecars are going away. Ford is working on twin-turbos. GM is working on direct injection for their V6s. Dodge has already stated that the Hemi is short-timing it. Of course, this won't happen overnight, but in 10 years from now, you'll be hard pressed to find a V8. Tesla already has an electric roadster that will run with most anything on the road now. Hybrids, even in musclecars, will become more commonplace. And there is still technology on the horizon yet to be explored. We may always have performance cars, just not V8-powered. shack
And now that OPEC is looking to price oil in Euros instead of USD, that could have a dramatic effect on gas prices. Not that I'll give up the 5.4L engine (if she ever gets built), but I do look forward to seeing what is next on the horizon, hybrid or not. When in actual fact 70% of the oil going to the US comes from good ole Canada, and that's a fact.

What I meant to say and what is a fact is that 99% of Canada's oil is exported to the US, which represents about 20% of the US's overall total oil import. But Canada is still the US's leading supplier of oil with Saudi Arabia coming in at a close 2nd from a total of 15 countries. I guess my point is if the European countries sold their oil at the Euro dollar, the US could turn to Canada and we could easily up the percentage of oil supply to the US. The Alberta Tar Sands holds more oil supply than all the Middle East put together but we are in a situation right now where we do not have the manpower (population) to expand the Tar Sands project. That's not even counting what's being pumped off the shores of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and soon to be British Colunbia from what I hear. So send us the damn manpower and we'll send you the oil. Never believe anything factory people say, unless they are very well connected. As in actually working on the car. The factory keeps them as much in the dark as they do the dealers.
