First Impressions

I drove to a dealer that was nice and called me when the got there first one in Red/White. They want 20k over but I wanted to see just what I am waiting for. Well to be frank (please do not grill me) I was not impressed very much. The main thing was the white stripes there was a few small air bubbles here and there, but on the a$$ end on the spolier there is a seam on the trailing edge that just stood up and said look at me. then where the spoiler meets the deck lid there is another seam that was not lined up, there was about a 1/16 of inch miss alignment. the other thing about the stripe is it was dull it just did not have bling as my son said. They also had a red/white Roush sitting next to the GT500 with painted stripes and chrome rims, looking at the two I likes the Roush better I think the Bright White stripes that was painted set off the car better. The Mach 1000 thump box in the trunk took up lots of space It will be almost impossable to put a set of golf clubs in there. The ride height I am sorry to say is the same as the regular Mustangs. I think it is just the larger rims and low profile tires that makes it look higher or too high. It realy needs to be lowered a bit.

If I am going to pay $45060.00 for a car I want the thing to be right. The salesman said the samething, he called me due to the fact he knowes that I wanted to look at one and he knew I was not going to pay over MSRP. They are should get 5 if you follow standards set by Ford. None sold If they have to sit on this one for a while they said the next one will be mine with a much much much less ( me thinks MSRP). The GSM said they might not even order any more they just want to see what happens with this one.

Sorry for the rambeling and I said Please Don't GRILL me. Just my thoughts. I might have to change my mind and go with the reg. Mustang GT Like Ruf I think he could be barking up the right tree¿ But I don't want it to be pink.

What about Lavender¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿

Hey mcle, just got back from Wichita; hot and windy enough for you down there in Hutch? I swear it felt like a blast furnace with that wind yesterday. Not so bad up here in KC, although a bit more humid.

Did you see the photos of the Black w/silver that I posted a few days ago? Did not see any of the stripe issues you saw. Hopefully that was an isolated issue. I agree with the size of the 1000 speaker box. If someone needs that much bass, an aftermarket system would be better. Its too bad the dealer has a 25K adm; the ebay buy it now price has an 28K adm. I'm still waiting for a small dealer to come through. I may be waiting awhile. Thanks for your obsevations.

Thanks for your impressions of the car.

It's interesting that your dealer is looking for significant ADM but doesn't sound very confident. He's probably a realistic guy...just hoping to get lucky, but also realizes the days of big ADM are very limited.

I'm wondering if I should delete stripes and get them painted later. Does anyone know if there's a functional advantage to doing it that way versus having the factory vinyl stripes installed and then making a decision later (e.g. once I see them) as to whether I want them removed and painted? Does removal of the vinyl stripes pose any problems?

I've got a sign company here in town willing to put on my vinyl stripes for $300.

Ford Racing wants $300 just for the stripes sent to you.

I have no doubt that painted stripes will look better and last longer - but will cost much more.

If I was keeping the car 10 years - I'd have them painted.

Wow!

Excellent comments and very frank observations.

I am very much less concerned with stripe quality than the overall fit and finish of the vehicle. Which you also noticed (and makes me nervous!)

If you think about it $700/$45K = 1.5% of the value of the car for the stripes (if I am not mistaken).

So 1.5% of the overall package can still have trully adverse affect on the perception of an otherwise great overall car.

Sometimes it makes sense to sweat the details, rather than save a couple of bucks.

Were you at Long McArthur in Salina? They called me to. Haven't been in town to go see it.

Yeah, maybe you are right Mr. (Percoset) Ruf.........

But it's still a shame.........

Here's the deal, throw a great engine / drivetrain / brakes in a car already in production. Get the thing built on the same line in the same amount of time as all the other cars (mazda's and stangs) going down the line to save time (= money).

Market it as the latest and greatest "Shelby" & set MSRP at a premium but with lots of margin to help save the Company.....

Throw away $$$$$ in interest charges as cash flow & inventory sits in a parking lot to get "vinyl stripes".

Things to make you go Hmmmmm........

O.K. who's the one that that did the cost analysis on the stripe installation?

Sorry I was in a hurry and no there is not a spell check again sorry

Yes it was Long McArthur in Salina. The salesman and sales manager was well great I haven’t been treated as good as they treated me in a long time. They were also very knowledgeable about the products they sell. They did not try to blow smoke up my a$$.

Ruf

Sorry about the pink and lavender pokes it’s all in good fun I hope¡

KCMO-GT500

Thanks for the pics. All I can say is yes I love the wind it was blowing 70 mph a while ago storms rolling through heading your way. Speaking rolling your way we are going to go to KC next week to go to the $100 an hour store Cabela’s, need to get equipment for my Boy Scout Troop and myself a new gun or two or three. Every hour there cost me $100 for each kid and the wife just sits there watching the ducks and fish. If any more GT500 should show up there in KC PM me the wife wants to see one and we are not going thru Salina.

I would also like to say there was a few shall I say pimples in the paint. The ones like there are some small foreign objects in there. This happens in all production cars. As far as the over all fit I would say it was no better than any other mustang or trucks cars or vans on there lot.

Don’t get me wrong the GT500 was great I loved the car but is it worth the $. I don’t know. I had a Shelby GT350 at one time way back then (76). Hell it was just a Mustang. I had a few problems and sold it. If I only knew then what I know now ¡

All the stupid PSDS I went through and to finally see one sit in it hear it smell it. Now I am thinking save some cash get a GT fixer up like Ruf save cash on gas and have fun. I looked at the car well that’s it this thing is just a car. I am going to keep my deposits at the two places and do some thinking. I am buying a sign shop here in town and the cash saved would buy some more equipment. Hell I would still have the time of my life.

Again just my first impression I tend to go by first impressions, helped when I had to hire and fire as many people in the 22 years of fast food life. Funny one of the people that has looked at the GT500 is a fellow fast fooder (is that a word ¿ ).

No worries about the pink references! Elite1 just took a pic of my white Z and made it pink! Pepto Pink! Pretty cool actually.

If my cash "flow" was moving better - I'd still have my MSRP deal - I just needed to conserve. This way, I can have a custom GT and still rip it up a bit!

And - have it "just the way - uh-huh - uh-huh - I like it - uh-huh - uh-huh!" :happy feet:

know what you mean about Cabela's; hard to leave there without spending some "quality" money. I didn't hear you say anything about Nebraska Furniture next door. I bet your wife could spend a shelby's worth there also.

:hysterical:

Spend a few minutes at the new Legends shopping area there. I have not had time to really take a hard look, but I have heard very good things about the shopping and the restaurants. The Yardhouse is supposedly known for its beer selection. There is also a food place going in, that may be finished, that has some full size dinosaurs in it to entertain the kids

the storms you mentioned just rolled through kearney about 10 minutes ago; we definitely needed the rain we are now getting.

the only shelby I know about for sure is the one I took pictures of at bill woods ford, which is a little north of the river. probably about 30 minutes from Cabela's. Chris from the dealership told me last week that he was also getting in a red coupe with white stripes from another dealer, and was having it shipped in. I just have not had a chance to check.

If I find out about any others in the area I will give you a quick pm. Otherwise your best bet is bill woods. I doubt they have sold it yet since they are asking 25K over, plus are running an ebay auction

It kills me that Ford, who did all of the work, sees less profit on this car than the dealers, who do nothing but aggravate and piss people off. Paying money for this car and seeing Ford profit is totally legit and well earned. Seeing some dealer get a free $35k for nothing makes me sick.

Could a factory direct auto maker work? Anyone have any insight? Dealers are not needed in my opinion. A dealer that buys a car from another dealer to increase the rape on the consumer even worse is the worst. Heaven forbid that bloodsucking dealer allow a local of the selling dealership a chance to purchase the car.

Why do we need dealers?

Cars could be ordered and bought online.

Manufacturers could have pick-up stations - PDI only.

Then - authorized service centers qualified to work on numerous brands.

Trade-ins would be handled by places like CarMax - no haggle offers.

I can see it coming.

hey ec

I guess I have another take on the whole dealer issue. Most of the cars and trucks sold by ford dealers go for well under the list price. Very hard for a dealer to make a living off of most of these offerings. The shelby is kind of like throwing them a bone, finally giving the dealers something they can make money on. The real solution is to have a system where the dealers make a respectable profit on all of their vehicles, so they don't get all excited when a car like this comes along. Unfortunately, that does not seem to be something we should expect in the near future. Doesn't seem possible to get rid of dealers unless Ford is willing to make corporate owned delivery centers around the country, and repair shops for customers to bring their problems to.
