Beware of Detailer

Just something to consider for all of those people that have their Shelbys on order right now.

I remember reading many posts before I got my car on how many people were having the dealer NOT touch their car in shape or form when it came in. I thought to myself what the hell, they are paranoid, come on. But I now stand as proof why you should be parinoid and not have them touch it. The detailer put a nice big Buff burn on my door and spilled coffee in the cup holder(and didnt clean it) during his/her wonderful(sarcasim) detailing job.

sorry to hear that. we try to be VERY careful and dont use a buffer.

I'm with you. My dealer (who is out of state) was good enough to offer to leave all the plastic on the car (inside and out) to help keep it protected for the Fed Ex trip to my house. The only thing he did was wash it (and no dealer prep charge!). Anyway, it hasn't shown up yet, but I'll let you know how Fed Ex treated it.

You are not suppose to use a buffer on new cars. There is absolutely no need and makes no sense to put a buffer to a new car!

And what is someone that is suppose to be cleaning cars doing with coffee inside the car????

And we NEVER charge any dealer prep fees.

Prep fees for what??? They are suppose to prep the car and have it cleaned for delivery. That is included at no charge to the customer along with providing a full tank of gas.

Any prep fees would be garbage fees!

What is the difference between doing a final buffing on a restored car that has clear on top, and doing a final buffing to a new car with clear on top? I do think 95% of new car dealerships shouldn't be allowed to own a buffer. If your new car has very small or light scratching on the bumpers, your saying don't use a buffer?

As a 20 yr sales manager @ a large GM dealership, I would want to know if our prep dept. screwed up like that. You should call the sales manager & give him an opportunity to rectify the matter to your satisfaction. (free oil changes, etc.) You will be getting a delivery survey from Ford about your experience. If the dealer satisfies you after your call to the manager, then give them 100% satisfied on the survey. If not, then tell it like it is. Just give them a second chance to make it right with you.

Just my 2 cents. Enjoy the power! Dave

Were the largest & highest customer satisfaction Buick,Pont-GMC dealer in the chicago area. We are in N.W Indiana. We've never charged doc fees, prep fees, etc. It's all B.S. A family dealer in business since 1968 treating employees & customers like family. The funny thing is, some people will shop you to save 50.00 & only then leave you for another dealer cause they save 50-100 dollars. Then they realize that dealer charges $150.00 prep & a $50.00 doc fee. LOL. This happens alot near us. The customer is too embarrased to come back so they suck it up & pay it. Why reward that dealer? Just walk out. My point is we should all do business w/ quality and reputable dealers. So what if they are a few dollars more. In the long run it is worth it.

shelby dudue

:hysterical2:

Innocent typo turned hilarious.

Are you sure the dealer put the buffer burn in the car? Maybe it was a factory repair. Sometimes if there is a blemish on the car, the factory will "repair" it.

As long as the car is not repainted, you should be able to buff a new car right off the line. the factory clear is baked on and hardened. I, somehow, caused 2 small scratches in my trunk lid about a month after I got it. I buffed them out no problem.

The key is, the user must know how to use the type of buffer they have. IF they are using a direct drive orbital, the chances of clear damage is high. You should only use that type of buffer to repair major flaws, deep scratches or heavy oxidation. A random orbital, such as the Porter Cable 7424, is very safe to use to repair minor flaws or even apply/remove wax in your final coat. You must also know which pad to use (how much cut, if any) and which products to use.

Those that are interested should become familiar with Autopia.org or Autogeek.net.

My Brother had his '04 SVT Cobra Vert in for some service, they had the car 3 or so days and it sat under a tree for part of the time. It ended up with a bunch of bird droppings on the top. No problem the detail guys just took a nice stiff nylon bristle brush to those spots :censored: You can imagine what that did to the Hartz fabric... Not so much the fault of the porter, but employees need to be better trained before unleashing them on someone's pride and joy.

I purchased my GT 500 in Houston, Helfman Ford, I live in Tacoma WA.

This dealership received my car and stored it in a locked garage for 3 weeks until I could get there to pick it up.

They did'nt do any detail to the car except check fluids and stuff. They even helped me drive the car onto the U-haul car trailer, tie it down and helped me wrap protective plastic over the front end of the car for the tow home.

These guys cared about my car as much as I did, I was lucky.

I hope you are able to get your door fixed.

There are a guys on this site that might be able to help.

Oh they are fixing it(calling it a factory defect so they dont have to pay for it, but the clear coat is definately gone), but it takes away from the experience and this is the first NEW car I have bought in my life and probaly ever will. They are to far away for me to get oil changes for personal compensation but I did buy a light bar and after 2 salesmen and 2 managers I was able to talk them into footing the bill for free installation of the light bar(hopefully they dont hose that up also). I am praying they wont hose up the fix job on the door or get overspray on the cloth top or inside the cabin!

LOL... I have the ford sales rating review survey waiting to be filled out but NOT untill everything is finished will I complete it.

Everyone has to learn their lesson the hard way first before they go to a repitable dealer I know I did.

The last car before the shelby, I was concerned about the bottom dollar amount and nothing else. I was haggling with two dealers one, a dirty dealer and one a repitable dealer. The dirty one gave me a price 2k under the other one did and when I told the repitable one about it they said there was no way they could do it for that and had no idea how the dirty dealer was able to. Well in the long run the repitible dealer was right they couldnt do it for that and it was all apart of a setup for a screw job scam they were going to try and play on me. Long story short after 3 days, a lawyer, and a cop I got the car for what the dirty dealer qouted me for although I didnt want the car anymore after all the bullshit they put me through. They(salesman, sales manager, and owner) must have put me through every shady scam you can think of one after the other it was sickening! Everytime one would fail all three of them would get back together and plan out the next including loosing my keys to the vehicle I was trading in, Guilt trips, legal threats, hiding fees in financing.

You can think of it this way though, the shady dealers get one sale for sure but the repitable dealers will get multiple sales. Oh yeah I promised them I would bad mouth them every chance I get so this would be a good oppourtunity to mention who the dirty dealer was Rosen Nissan of Milwaukee, WI
