40th Anniversary Question.....

Recommended Posts

For # 132 to come up and it got me to thinking, losing sleep, daydreaming, etc.

I have decided to have Shelby ship back all the original parts to me. Now do I sell them or do I keep them with the car? If I ever decide to sell it, would it make any difference?

All comments are GREATLY appreciated!

Michael Morris, are you out there?

This is a question only you will be able to answer and still have peace of mind. Some of us that have gone through the process continue to struggle with this same question. For me, I decided last week to sell everything. I have the 725 HP performance upgrades with the 40th and I just can't see anyone ever changing it back to stock, including me. I'm confident that these parts will someday be worth something. I just think that there are just to many of these cars around, especially with the likely hood of an 09 model year, for them to appreciate much, even in the long run. So to store them for 40 years seems somewhat impractical for me.

LOL im here!!!

my plan since the beginning has to been to KEEP the parts. im lucky and have a place to store them. it never crossed my mind to sell them, then the other day on SU the same topic came up. i read thru all the posts and now i think im going to sell the stuff. now that i have thought about it i really dont see a reason to keep the stuff. BRAND new wheels and tires. the tires are just going to dry up over the years, brand new S/C that someone will pay a pretty good amount for, and all the brake stuff too. so to answer your question im pretty sure that NO ONE will ever put this car back to stock and after storing this stuff for 40 years it aint going to be worth anything so im going to SELL it ALL.

hope this helps... ANYONE need a supercharger?????

Cobrafan, glad to see your comment. I sent my deposit on the 40th package last week and am struggling with whether to go with the 600 or 725 HP upgrade. also did you do the brake upgrade as well? Please let me know how you like the 40th package, how it drives, any problems, highlights, regrets and if you have any suggestions or advise concerning the upgrades. I must confess that I suffer from acute "paralysis due to analysis" any iformation would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I have all performance upgrades to the SuperSnake on my 40th, i.e., breaks, quick shift, 3.73 gears, and 725 HP with exhaust and one piece drive shaft. It is still at SAI so I can not comment on the performance yet, however, talking with JW I don't think I will be disappointed.

If you go with full SS performance upgrades either 605 HP or 725 HP, you will be very close to the price of the SS without getting the hood or the wheels. Many SS folks age opting into the 725 HP, but very few 40th are upgrading to either the 605 HP or the 725 HP. Of the 80 or so 40th's that have been completed, there is only 1 that has 725 HP and only a handful of the 605 HP. When it is all said and done, a 40th with full SS including either the 605 HP or the 725 HP will be one of the most rare cars in the Shelby Register, which may or may not bring any additional value, but it sure gives you somehting to talk about at the car shows. For me, the choice was simple, in my lifetime, more power is always more desireable.

Thanks for the fast reply. I agree with you 100% about the rarity of the 40th with the power up grades. What you mentioned is the exact reason I chose to go down the 40th package path rather than the SS. Hopefully you will get your car back soon and will be able to share some comments about the upgrades. Thanks again.
