SMGT
For those of you who have installed the GT 500 wing I have a couple of questions: - Does the wing come with a template for accurate drilling of the installation holes? - Do the stripes come with instructions? - Did you install the stripes before or after installing the wing? - I read here before that the stripes come in pieces and my assumption as that they are in pieces because the stripe material can not bend around conrners but has to but joined where the spoiler bends - correct? Thanks in advance for any help you all can offer!
ngnear_merged
I have the GT500 Spoiler...Dealer installed. The stripes where installed by an automotive custom "trim" graphic shop in town. Cheaper that purchasing stripes from SAI. You are correct the stripes must endure several compound curves while "wrapping" the spoiler. This stripes do not have parallel sides while laying flat on a table. After applied, everthing will be parallel. Any competent shop should be able to figure out how to custom tape, lay-up, measure, create a template, digitize the template, cut out the stripes and apply the stripes. My stripes do not have a seam. Each stripe is a one piece wrap.
Johngfla@aol.com
I added a 500 wing to my SGT. There were 2 guides that helped me with the alignment of the wing on the car. There were no stripes with the wing, I went to a local detailer who purchased the material and later installed it, once I had the wing on the car. He said that it would have been easier putting them on the wing had it been off the car, but i doubt that being accurate. The alingment was difficult due to the bends and curves of the wing. Additionally, he applied the stripes in sections to keep the spacing and continuity correct between the wing and the car. The final result was great! The 500 wing should have been part of the car, for it really sets the car off and looks great. Now thats is my opinion, some of the purists who do not drive the car and will preserve it for posterity will disagree. Good luck with the installation. MattInDetroit
Now thats is my opinion, some of the purists who do not drive the car and will preserve it for posterity will disagree. I'm not a purist and I do drive my car 7000 miles so far, and I just like the clean line without the scoop but this entire topic has been a hot one for as long as I can remember which is why Ford has always offered a "Spoiler Delete" on the cars. Some like it, some don't...just a personal preference and nothing to do with whether a car is a driver or a garage queen.
wlangle1
The factory GT500 wing comes with a full size paper template for drilling the mount holes. These are the same location as the standard GT wings. I had my stripes painted, since I had the tape stripe problem like so many. I'm glad I did. SMGT
Thanks very much to everyone for your input. This will be my spring project!
shelbydream1
I have the Gt500 spoiler dealer installed prior to delivery-I don't regret it at all. While I don't mind the spoiler deleted look, IMO it looks better with the spoiler-to me it looks like it's missing something without it. Just my $0.
LuLu
Question; Is a "wing" the same as a "spoiler"?
SWEDESHELBY1
Question; Is a "wing" the same as a "spoiler"? Yes. I too have the GT500 spoiler/wing and have never regreted it one iota. In fact I believe it matches the front fascia of this car extremely well and have been told that by others too. If you wish I can email you a picture of my car, just PM me. Cobrawertz_merged
I ordered my stripes for my "GT500" wing from SAI. I paid a professional to install the wing and stipes. No regrets and it looks great.
LuLu
If you wish I can email you a picture of my car, just PM me. Thank you for a generous offer, but I'm not a fan of either wing or spoiler. I was just wondering if they were two individual products, or, one product with two names. Both the SPP and FRP catalogues call them spoilers. Even my factory sticker says "spoiler delete", so I just want to make sure I wasn't reading about two different parts. Around me, once I drive south enough, "bags" become "sacks", guess it depends on your neighborhood, eh?
sdear
I ordered my stripes for my "GT500" wing from SAI. I paid a professional to install the wing and stipes. No regrets and it looks great. Well i can't wait to see RIHarley's car in person next week. He has the spoiler on..and I haven't seen one yet "live " with it on. I have had the spoiler, and stripe kit waiting in the spare bedroom since I bought the car lol..but the look without it has grown on me. We shall see :P
