Kegerators and nitrogen

Recommended Posts

Here is my vintage kegerator. It's a late '50s roundtop...older than any car I've ever owned. I have a 1/2 barrell of Mich light at all times.

Stats:

  1. A 1/2 barrel holds 15.5 gallons
  2. approximate weight is 130 lbs full...it's all I can do to lift it in, then I need a drink
  3. One 1/2 barrel lasts me about 6 months (yes, it stays fresh...that's what the nitrogen is for)
  4. The keg is constantly pressurized with nitrogen...that's the small blue tank
  5. Pressure is maintained at about 4 psi
  6. I keep the temp at 36 degrees F
  7. Yes, they sell kits to convert a fridge like this...search on "home bar" or kegerator. My kit cost about $160 15 years ago...I think they are about $230 today...but you still have to supply the fridge.
  8. I keep the fridge in the garage...just outside the door to the house...convenient
  9. I can get almost any beer you can think of, but they can get very expensive if it's not a "common" beer
  10. For example, my Mich light is about $64 a 1/2 barrel. Rolling rock is $90, and Fosters is $120

Party at my house...but I'm collecting all the GT500 keys in advance. :happy feet:

P.S. As for that last photo...Holy Defrosters Batman!!!

Very Nice, I have wanted one of those for years. After 3 years in the Desert, I think I deserve one. But with my friends... I'll need 2 refills a weekend!!!!!! It seems we have the Kool-Aid house on the Block.

Where can I get one?

You obtain a fridge, then you can buy a kit to convert the fridge. It's pretty easy....anyone who can change an axle back on a Mustang could do it. You only need to drill one hole with a hole saw, then build a "platform" out of wood for inside the fridge. I have done 4 of them for buddies...takes about an hour to do the whole thing.
