Her name shall be "Patty"

AFBLUE

Recommended Posts

Been thinking alot today about a good name for my car. Was thinking about it's characteristics, slick, fast, agile, and thought of the P-51 Mustang. That led me to search for names of Mustangs.

I came up with "Patty" from 2 sources.

I used to fly in the 343rd Reconnaissance Squadron from 1993-1997. Back in World War II, the 343rd flew P-38 Lightnings and P-51 Mustangs.

On 5 Sep 1944, Maj Bill Allen of the 343rd Fighter Squadron, shot down 5 German aircraft, becoming an ace in 1 day. His plane's name was "Pretty Patty"

Another P-51 Mustang, "Patty Ann II", was piloted by Lt Jack Thornell. He was credited with 17.25 kills (aerial victories). "Patty Ann II" was painted silver and blue (like my car).

2 Mustangs named Patty with over 22 kills between them.

It was meant to be.

"Patty" it is, and for good reason. Congrats, my friend.

My "LuLu" earned her name for close/similar reasons. I worked a beat car for seven years while assigned to District patrol. Radio sign was "611" and we had a lot of fun together. I was an FTO, a "patrol specailist" (field training officer) who trained new cops fresh out of the Academy. I trained over 40 before I moved on myself, and a few have done very well in moving up through the ranks. One is our acting Superintendent, sadly two are in jail, and three are dead, KILOD.

LuLu's "outside" number (painted on the fenders) was 8749, and I drove her from her first day out of fleet preparation, to her last day on duty. Birth to retirement, and she earned her nick-name from all the stupid stunts she pulled my sorry azz through. Some warm and fuzzy, and some sad and haunting, but she's a part of my automotive history nonetheless. I've been a Ford fan ever since I met LuLu.

"LuLu" came from other cop's radio comments about my "loop-de-loop" stunts, I won't delve into them further, but the name stuck, along with the sentiment.

Good for you, and welcome to "Patty" too.

Speaking of comparing mustangs to fighter planes:

I think the Shelby GT is like an F-16. Light and agile, while the GT 500 is more like an F-15C. Heavier than an F-16, not as agile, but much more powerful and faster. In a close in dogfight the F16 has the advantage, but in a long range engagement, the F-15 would win.

But, I digress....

So Swede, what would you call the car? Maybe I should have a naming contest. I'm not that fond of Patty, just thought it was a nice connection. Dmaq has already nominated "car".

Is Patty too wimpy? I could go with "Conan the Destroyer", or "Dr Doom", or "The Executioner', Excaliber, or Bambi. :)

Eleanor, the most famous Shelby named car, isn't that sexy of a name either.

Ralph has meaning...just not the same meaning some of the twisted minds have on this board lol.

My friends from a cruise named him........oh well...i would have named "him" Black Betty...but I didnt want to confuse him since I was already calling him Ralph !

It has grown on me lol

 Or it could also be short for Mustang-Patty.

Because of the personalized plate I got for it - AFBLUE, since 2001 my 96GT's name has been Air Force Blue (same color used by the Air Force on their 96 For Taurus Staff cars). It became my online name in 2003.

I really did the car naming thing for my kids.

I named my newly acquired green 03 F-150 "Shrek" and the kids loved it. I ask them if they want to go for a ride in Shrek and they get all excited. My daughter also got excited when I told her the car's name was Patty.
