LuLu
These work the best I hear ya, but not always. I'm a 30 year vet myself, and I know it's better not to get caught than it is to rely on a chancy escape clause. Having some heavy metal in your back pocket sometimes doesn't mean much, some LEOs resent that play. Moreover, if it doesn't work and you get cited, and your employer finds out, you face greater penalties than Joe Citizen via internal disipline processes. A speeding ticket is bad news for anyone, but it's worse for the LEO. I'd rather not get caught. Just my .02C, carry on, gents.

stump_breaker
I never leave home w/o mine but I have a different philosophy. I don't buy the ones that detect laser or "instant on" because all those do is tell you you're about to get a ticket, not warn you to slow down that radar is in the area. Instant on is just that, instant on and you're already got!

Instant on is just that, instant on and you're already got! True...But any LEO spending his patrol time sitting "in the bush", is pulling his trigger as much as possible. Thus, you stand a very good chance at catching his signal on someone ahead of you. This has worked for me. I'll pass along another hint here. Road patrols never work alone, they work in pairs. See one, and another is just around the corner...Unless you missed the first one. There is no preventive medicine allowing you to not watch for the typical clues. What ever system is at play in such a "zone", no excuse for not looking ahead when you're "hammer down" in the left lane.
ilmor
I don't speed, but I'd like to have a detector to give me a heads up just in case. Yawn...Stretch...Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you don't own a car like the SGT without pushing it around. Make all the excuses you want, but admit it, you were having fun, yes? You don't speed? Is that even possible? I hope you stay out of the left lane. No. Not possible. The SGT is automotive crack. Hit the pipe once, and you never go back. If I see you coming I'll move over! mccoystudio_merged
An exotic car dealer ex-friend of mine turned me on to the traffic attorney that the ferrarista in my city use. Clean record here. Thanks for your time officer, have a nice day. Waste my time I can pay to waste yours. I am interested in a jammer. mywickedshelby
I have the Passport 8500, works like a charm. ....especially on those 45 mph twisties where you are no doubt going faster.......sees around corners......you hear it, you slow down, then you see your "friend" coming in the opposite direction. careful at night, the Leo's have a tendency to turn on their radar based on your headlights coming and you can get surprised.....they dont just leave it on like during the day when you can sniff them out miles away. srf73
Valentine 1. Ya lots of false alarms but on a known route, you get used to 'em and when something new and different pops up, you take notice. I also really like the arrows. I'm on my 4th generation V1 now, the older ones stay in the older cars and newest car (in this case the Shelby) got a brand new V1. I can't tell you the number of times over the years that the arrows have told me about the 2 patrols working together and saved me from thinking I'd passed the one troublespot only to have Cop #2 around the corner or over the hill from the decoy site. Valentine also hase a nice upgrade program. Send them an old V1 and you get an updated one back for ~$100 less than buying new. There's a reason you will see radar detectors and laser jammers for sale. Unless you have a HAM radio license or other appropriate authorization/training it is illegal to broadcast on radar frequencies per FCC (Federal) regulations. There are no such Federal regulations against transmitting light on laser frequencies. So it is legal in most states (VA, others, and Canada excepted) to detect radar, but not transmit (jam) radar, but laser is fair game to go active and jam back. I had a laser jammer in my 2000 Audi S4. It actually worked well for the first few years until the Cops went to newer laser guns with different frequencies then it was not nearly as effective. When it detected a pulse, it sent back a high power pulse in return, swamping the return and confusing the speed reading, then cycled off to cool down. Changing out detect/jamming equipment every few years gets expensive. So upgrades happen for me only with each new car. And I rely on the alerts, even the false alarms to help remind me to check/watch my speed. Finally, if you are going to run a radar detector in states (and Canada) where they are banned, you better make darn sure you invest in one of the good ones that the detector detectors can't find. Check the specs and the test results from the radar detector shootouts. YMMV but that's my experience. Todd csm1638
mgheroy
Second the motion on the Valentine 1- I've had mine for several years and use it in everything from CSX4045 to a 1958 Bentley! You not only get the direction of the signal (unless it's a reflection), its strength, and the number of alerts in progress, but you can send the thing in for software upgrades as opposed to buying a new detector. The last time I inquired about that (you provide then wth the unit's serial number), they were honest enough to tell me not to send it in unless the new POP radar was prevealent in my area. As for detectors in general, they are best when they pick up the LEO targeting the cars in front of you. On an empty road, you're going to be the first one at the "instant-on" party and will be caught no matter what kind of detector you use. Hot Pony
Title says it all...Escort? Passport? Laser jammers? Whatcha think gents? Valentine. Worth every cent. Picks them up in front, behind or either side of you. Have had no experience with a laser jammer. Of course, I don't care what kind of detector you get, they don't help when the officer doesn't click the radar on until you're right in front of him.
