christopher.saufley
Looking for some help from a paint/wax expert. I've got CSM 07SGT0067- Black. Due to circustmances, I've had to keep this car outside (I know, bad idea). I've kept it very clean- washing frequently. However, the finish seems 'blemished'. Like there are dry soap spots that can't be removed. There are also what appears to be very small sap spots. I never parked it directly under any trees, probably blown onto from a distance. I've used Maguire's clay bar and it helps a little- but doesn't entirely get everything off of the surface and doesn't help the 'blemishes.' Any advice is appreciated. You don't say where you live but regardless you may want to take the car into a professional detailer for a look and estimate. See what they say and either try to do it your self or have them do it. Then perhaps look into a locking car cover. PITA but...

fatboy_merged
pttthhh...no big deal...mine's a daily driver and i have to keep it parked outside. would use a car cover but then i be taking it on and off twice a day just to get back and forth to work. its been raining here every other day for the past 2 weeks and i havent washed it since october. been picking the leaves out of the hood scoop gaps from time to time and cleaning off the bug juice, bird droppings and alley cat paw prints, thats about all. maybe i'll put a scarecrow or a lifesized replica of a German Shepard next to it to keep the birds and cats away from it. but then again its a white car. white cars stay cleaner :P if the sun comes out for a couple days i'll give it a good hoo-hah washing and a couple of coats of wax then for the winter. stupid rain <_< i need to sell my Harley so i can buy a house with garage. - NO!!! I would ditch the meguiar's clay bar.. Go for "clay magic"- search online.. should be blue. When I clayed my car, I let the hose trickle over the work area- don't use the spray they give you. If the clay doesn't do it, go for a good paint cleaner.. (meguiar's, perhaps?). If that doesn't do it, you're gonna need to polish with compound.. then glaze, and finally, a swirl remover.. Oh, you did say you had two full days to clean your car, right?? :D
stump_breaker
You will need to strip off the wax using Tide or soaking in Windex, Isopropyl Alcohol or other "professional" product. Get down to the clear coat. You will then need a Porter Cable 7424 with the white pads, This, This, and wax frequently. I recommend this if you car stays outside all the time but I personally use Mequiers since mine stays under cover. You want to keep the shine, you will need to wax at least monthly since yours is an outside car. An easy test if waxing is needed is to check the size of the bead on the car. Smaller than a quarter, you're ok. Any larger, time to get to work. Use microfiber not terrycloth and for in-between touch-ups use Eagle wax-as-u-dry. I personally use the two levelers I posted but any good quality leveler will work - Mequiers, Zaino (kit), etc. The Porter Cable is what you need to really take care of the car. Do some searches. I know in the past we have argued oops, I mean discussed the best wash/wax jobs to do to these cars in depth. Basically it all comes down to the prep. ShowCar
Here's my recomendation, take it to pro.Not a wash and wax place but a pro who can use quality products. If you feel you can do it yourself, then heres the receipe, Meguiars clay bar for tree sap Porter Cable 7424 Meguiars #8006 Yellow Pad Meguiars #7006 Tan Pad Meguiars #83 Cleaner Polish(to remove blemishes and water spots) Meguiars #84 Cleaner Polish (only if #83 doesnt work) Meguiars #80 Polish(This will bring out the Black more) Meguirs #26 Wax (Makes black paint Pop) This is what I would start with on a black car when I detail. Hopefully she will look like this? Any questions PM and send some pics of the blemishes and stains.
07SGT4648
As a previous detailer i have some experience in this field. The first thing you should do is try to cut the bulk of the sap CAREFULLY with a razor blade. Next use a quality clay bar Clay magic is preferred.blue bar (fine cut). You should keep the surface wet at all times so the clay can Glide over the surface . an almost soapy mixture will work. never ,i mean never drop the bar on the floor and reuse it, or you may be scratching the surface with sand!! You should see good results. the surface will be a little duller in this particular area. you can follow with a buff, glaze, swirl remover, and a wax. there has been a few good posts earlier that i approve of also. good luck, but be gentle, black is a higher maintenance color that requires a golden touch and high attention to detail. hope this helps as a last resort we can discuss wet- sanding but try this first. WI-GT/SC
Ya know, I hate to beat a dead horse, but if it was a white car all you'd need is some Meguiars #6 cleaner wax, #26 wax & a good polishing cloth :P I hope you all know i'm just kidding. I love all our SGT'S On a serious note. If you go to a detail shop make sure they know what their doing! :o
mccoystudio_merged
Careful with detail shops -really get a personal recommendation! I once had a black finished car that got undoable screwed up by a "detail shop". It was a drag. Done right its great, not many can do it right. Be wise and use lot of wax. I like to drive em too, right on hope it works out.

Webba
I use Zaino as well LuLu and I love it. What he is decscribing though sounds like the hard water spots we were hearing about last summer. I recall John or Bud saying something about taking a towel with warm or hot water and lettig it sit on the spots for a while. Do a search on "hard water spots". If you cant find anything email John at SAI or Bud. There was an issue with this. Once they get that fixed for you go to www.zainostore.com and buy the kit. Its like $110 but it somes with everything you will need. Car wash, clay bar, polish, leather cleaner, applicators, captain morgans....sorry thats in my kit Anyway the first time you do it will take a bit but after that its a breeze. Follow their instructions to the T. You will have to print them off the website as they kit doesnt come with them. But it does work great. Even on those nasty looking black cars
