Air Cleaner

If I'm not mistaken we have reusable filters. You would need the cleaner and then the oil to reactivate. Should be in the Ford Performance Parts web site.

So if its reusable, does this mean the K&N will have no advantage?

A buddy insists I put one on as he has one on every car he has and loves them. I havent been able to justify it,yet.

It's basically the same thing. Both are cotton gauze material. I haven't cleaned my filter yet but don't know why the K&N cleaning kit would not work - except that the K&N oil is red and the Ford filter blue.

IMO buying and replacing with a K&N setup is a waste of money. The only way to noticeably improve performance over what we have currently is to design a true cold air intake, which ours is not since it still draws from under hood.

Besides, you won't really get more power with more air in unless you put more air out and that will involve major mechanical work.

It's comforting to hear the voice of reason here.

The K&N fan club is more a cult, a religion, than anything else. I've had a few on my cars over the years, and I actually got tired of the special handling K&N requires. After a while, I just ran warm soapy water through them, then blow dry with compressed air. Didn't bother to oil anything either, and I never had a problem.

It's also very true what you say about our OEM/FRP kit not really being a true "cold air" kit, but I decided to leave that alone a while back. It's true that it is less restrictive than the average air box, but you are correct to say that more air in need more air out. Any engine is just agiant air pump anyway.
