There is a boy that lives in our neighborhood that is mentally slow....and he is over 20. He comes over on the weekend to see our dog....and he calls him old yeller He always has the VCR tape of old yeller in his hand I think he thinks if he comes over with that tape ...old yeller lives on lol. As for the weepy movies I never cry..... reading this....made me cry! the beginning of Saving Private Ryan, (only saw it once).....made me cry and cry. It was so real, so horrible, I had to pause it to collect myslef. I cant help but think about my Grandfather landing there with his company from the 2nd Infantry Divison, only to go through Belgium, fight in the Battle of the Bulge and be one of the first units to liberate Auschwitz. fatboy_merged Posted November 20, 2007 Report Share Posted November 20, 2007 i watched a documentary where they interviewed one WW2 D-day veteran and he was the only one that made it out of his landing craft onto the beach alive...every single one in the craft was cut down before they even set foot on the sand. it was like shooting fish in a barrel for those Germans. he literally had to crawl 100 yards to find cover. he crawled from one dead body to another because there was a sniper picking off other soldiers coming off other beach crafts. As a veteran I would recommend the old 1932 "All Quiet on the Western Front" lest we forget that "those Germans" were mostly just regular guys like us. It's too often the politicians and generals that call and wage war that the common man is left to fight often not even sure why. But it's kill or be killed. Kill to survive and live to fight another day. As Patton said, the goal of war is not to die for your country but make the other poor bastard die for his.
