shack
Greetings all, I'm planning on ordering my 2008 GT500 around the Thanksgiving holidays and want to start thinking of vehicle security. Last thing I want is to walk out of work and not find the car. What is everyone's opinion of Biometric security - aka Fingerprint readers - that control door locks/ignition? Thought about RFID tags like the Corvette, but that can get hacked too easily by a laptop and reader/transmitter. Two I've been intrigued by are SID Secure Identification Device™ from Biometric Solutions ( http://www.justbiometrics.com/sid-vehicles.html ) and Identisafe-09 Fingerprint Car Security System from United Linkers Biometric Solutions ( http://www.automobile-security.com/products.htm - site looks old, but has one or two news items from this year ). Please post your thoughts - Thanks Andy
DubbsFaris
Wow- my plan is to leave my wife in it where ever I go to make sure no one gets any fingerprints on it... Did I mention I will be parking curbside next to the door from now on?
shack
Or you can do this - might be more cost effective than having your wife sit in the car. And by the commercial looks to be approved by Ford http://www.metacafe.com/watch/4319/trunk_monkey_2/

I also like the leave my wife in the car comment, but when I do she takes it for a drive to scare the hell out of me!!

Not to be gross or anything, but what if some lowlife hacks off your finger to get your car? Now you're down 2 important items in your life... TheKurgan
This reminds me of something I've been wondering. Is the Ford active alarm system actually better than the passive alarm system? I'm pretty sure the passive system disables starting the car without the proper key code. Does the active system actually disable the ignition in this way also if someone breaks the window or is the only thing that happens is the motion sensor in the car causes the horn to blast? GT500_Grad_merged
I believe the keys have the security chip in them so the car wont start without that proper key code.
DubbsFaris
I just looked at those websites, and I have to say- they both look just a little too hoakey and cheap for me to put in my beautiful car. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have something like this if you have teens though...You gotta figure your son is gonna want to sneak the car out for a joyride when you dont know it. I did see a mustang GT with a pushbutton start placed where the center upper cig lighter adapter on the dash is. That looked pretty darn good actually. Not a security thing, but I thought of it.
