2007_Shelby_GT
OK, I'm an idiot, I'll admit it! I couldn't remove some sort of cr*p on my outside mirrors and opted to use a razor blade - huge mistake - my mirrors are now scratched! Does anyone know how to remove/replace the mirror glass and where I can get replacement glass (not the entire housing)? Thanks for not laughing! stormeaston
Here's what we do, we trace the outline of the mirror and take it down to your local glass shop. They can cut you out a new mirror for about 3.00-4.00 dollars, then take some silicone, smear it on the back, tape it onto the old mirror, let stand overnite, take tape off, enjoy! We fix 90% of our mirrors that way and the only way you can tell is if your looking for it.
ilmor
Aww man, that's a shame! I would probably have done the same thing. I've used blades on windsheilds w/out any problem, but I don't think I've tried mirrors before. Hope you get this worked out w/out too much difficulty. Stormeaston: I don't think I'll go the glue-on route until I've done some more research, right now it's about 50/50, some say you can replace just the glass, others say the entire unit. I've seen some replacement pieces online and right now I'm trying to find a local distributor, but it's the weekend... I think I'll checkk with local body-shops, auto glass shops, etc., and see what turns up. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be a $500+ mistake! sdear
Are you sure YOU scratched it??? My driver's side mirror had some weird scratching in it..deep inside the glass if you get what i am saying. It looked like someone had taken a brillo pad to it or something. It wasn't on the surface. My dealer replaced the whole mirror..housing and all. Warranty covered it. Good luck Sue

Does anyone know how to remove/replace the mirror glass and where I can get replacement glass (not the entire housing)? Thanks for not laughing! Sorry to hear about the little boo-boo, next time you get something on glass or metal there's a product called goof-off (not goo-gone). GOOF-OFF is a lighter fluid based solvent, put a little on a rag, apply to the spot, it will usually loosen it up. You can also use lacquer thinner on a rag. DO NOT GET ON PAINT OR PLASTIC!!!!!!!! It will melt plastic and paint. On the mirrors, go to a dealer. Pony up now, no regrets later. Good luck, Dave

2007_Shelby_GT
Yes, goof-off is some great stuff! To bad I couldn't use that on myself! However, I've got some good news! I called the local Ford dealer first thing this morning...low and behold they sell just the replacement glass! $18.00 per mirror - I'm smiling again! I'll post part numbers when they arrive later this week. (I know someone else out there may need them!) C-U-Later PS: My research indicates that auto mirror glass is not the same as other types. It has a coating on both sides, (not just silver on the back), to prevent glare. Therefore that's the reason it will scratch so easily!

Im late but, there are probably a ton of Mustangs lying around the junk yards. Im sure they would let a mirror go for two or three bucks. Should be an easy fix. Yea, I thought about the junk-yard route and that would have been my next choice if the dealer didn't have replacements. I'm a happy camper again. 2007_Shelby_GT
Success! The new mirror glass arrived today! Here's the part numbers for those that might need it: 4R3Z-17K707-AA (Driver's Side) 4R3Z-17K707-BA (Pass. Side) Here's a pic of the old mirrors after removal: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/wil...rightmirror.jpg Note the driver's side has a metal "prong" Removing the old mirror: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/wil...emovemirror.jpg Sorry I didn't get a pic of the interior of the mirror housing, however, the re-install was a simple matter of lining up the mirror on the directional gimble (round, flat plate in the housing with obvious tabs) and applying even pressure to the new mirror until it snapped into place. I double-checked for snug fit and viola, complete!
