Which wheels?

Strawman

Recommended Posts

Trying to decide which 20" wheels to put on my '08 vert, what are my CS options? I'm adding brakes at SAI so wheels are to be added there. I've seen Razors, GT40 (cough), CS56, 66, 67, 69, are the Alcoa's available and are they Shelby? Also, I want as wide as possible, probably 9's on front and 10.5 rears?

I'll try to help Michael.

Strawman,

I think if you are looking at 10.5" in the rear you will need to go with the GT40's they are through the American Racing Custom shop and can be offset to your specs. But they are very pricey.

The largest avalible would be 10" in the rear for a spec. wheel. Either American Racing Shelby series or Carroll Shelby Wheel Company. The other factor is what brake kit are you planning on running. For the Super Snake Extreme kit the CS66's and CS69's are the only ones in the Carroll Shelby line of wheels that will fit big brake kits. I ordered the CS69's 9x20 Front and 10x20 rear and I am running the SS Extreem brakes in front. No clearance issues at all. I have also seen the CS66's in Chrome and they look very nice. We, as SGT owners have many choices and are very fortunate. Here are some of the wheels avalible for your viewing pleasure. They are avalible in different finishes also. If you are looking at Razor's only Shelby Automobiles has the Black wheel centers. They are exclusive. The Alcoa's, from what I have read are avalible late fall. I have seen these wheels and the finish is very nice. They would be priced just under the GT40's. You could also go custom with CCW's. You can check them out on thier web site:

Just and FYI, the Carroll Shelby Wheel Company pricing is on par with American Racing Wheel pricing. Most Ford Performance Dealers carry the CS wheel line and can help you out. I purchased from Michael Morris here on the forum.

I vote for the CS69's in the black/magnum 500 look. they look SWEEEEEEET. Socal's wheels are great looking also-either way you couldn't go wrong. Just my $.02

Strawman, there are several posts along this topic for different specific subjects.

1) I think AFBlue posted pictures comparing the different Razors to give a comparison.

2) There were discussions back around April/May about tire width and potential rubbing the fenders. My 275 rears occaisionally rub the fender. I am hopful that when Tasca installs my panhard rods that will be resolved. I remember someone once saying that the SGT can take a 275 max. The 285's will definitely rub. I heard that the GT500's can take wider (I think 300's) but that's because they aren't as low as our cars.

3) I once asked Amy if I could get the Alcoa wheels and she told me no to stick with the SGT family of wheel options. I don't know if any of that has changed since but it doesn't hurt to ask. Well, maybe I shoudl say that LOL. The Alcoa's are Shelby with the embedded Shelby lettering alont the outer rim. The SuperSnakes get additional SS lettering.

In the end, it's really what ever fits your personality. Part of one of my trips out ther was because I also couldn't make up my mind. I was trying to get my hands on any pictures I could comparing the options (black Razors, silver Razors or Alcoa's). Finally, when seeing them first hand, it was a no brainer for me to go with the silver Razors (well, Amy helped me partly regarding the Alcoa's LOL).

Edit, ditto to what Roger said.

Also, SAI now has a phamplet showing all of their wheel options (including for trucks). I'd suggest to call and ask someone you mail you one, but I don't want to be the cause of them getting hundreds of calls for the phamplets. Maybe American Racing has the same phamplet. Maybe, when I get back home, I will scan the phamplet and post on my picasa site (if SAI lets me) to avoid mass callings..

Thanks, Roger and aodwyer, that was quite an effort. If I'm not mistaken, the SS brakes have the red front calipers? I'm not sure I care for that with a blue car, so I'm leaning toward the big brakes. I really like Socal's GT40's, it's great to see them on a car, it's hard to tell what a wheel looks like just from a pic. Will SAI install any of these? Are these "official" Shelby wheels? I also like the Razors and the 69's, I'm thinking silver. How about other SGT pics? Thanks again.
