AFBLUE
I'm currently only looking at doing some minor mods. Ones from the catalogue: 1. Lower front grille with fogs 2. 18" silver razors (40mm offset) with 255s all around. 3. Trim around the quarter windows (old school) Other mods I wish were available from SAI is a fixed elbow intake (like the Steeda one) and aftermarket tune via a SCT XCAL II and maybe some 3:90 gears and CMCV delete plates. Figure this combo could net an additional 10-20 hp at the rear wheels (i.e. 290-300rhwp) I've also got an aftermarket hood with a functional hood scoop. Vents air right on top of CAI. http://alliance247.com/product.php?pid=946...5db1ad2179d3ded I bought it when I thought I was getting a Mustang GT. I thinks I want to use it (don't worry if I do, I'll keep the original hood in a safe place) I heard from many of you, how long it takes to get the mods done and I don't think I could handle waiting weeks or months for these simple mods. One option I'm looking at is to do the mods later, either do it myself or to a future East Coast Shelby mod shop. Since I not getting anything major like a supercharger, what are your opinions on having the SAI mod shop do it vs. doing mods locally or waiting until there is an East Coast Mod shop? Thanks
dave c
Mark, If those are all the mods you want and you've ordered early I would think it wouldn't take that long, like the brakes and S/C did. Talk with SAI and talk to John and see what they can do for you. It sure is nice to get your car done and deal with your hood later. They should have a better handle on having the parts in stock this time. My wife loves the color of the '08, but we're not getting rid of ours. Good luck Dave
SWEDESHELBY1
I bought mine off the showrrom floor. This is what I TOTALLY regret: 1) NOT getting a SC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2) Read #1 again and again and again until you do it. 3) remember getting the SC you'll be in such a different league than other SGT owners you'll never regret it. I'd leave almost everything else off the car as you can add it later BUT the SC must be an SAI installed option to gain the recognition of your peers. 4) Don't waste money on 18" Razors, you'll regret it highly.Go with 20's or stay 18" polished from the factory. 5) Don't forget what I recommended. If you choose to go a different way, so be it i just had to speak my peace. Sorry for being so blunt but if you ask almost ANY showroom buyer here or any other guy who factory ordered if they don;t tell you they regret not buying a car with the SC they, well, are not telling you their entire feeling about the issue here. MattInDetroit
I don't see any reason to not go with the mod shop. Now is the best time as things are slowing down and your car will be one of the few customer ordered cars. Seems to me that the KR/SS/40th programs are yet to get going leaving only the O8 SGT's, or any 07' SGT returns, to get mods. I'm sure it will be MUCH faster than the old days. ilmor
I agree w/ Swede's comments except for one thing; I have absolutely no regrets about not have a s/c because I never wanted one for various reasons. Also, I don't think you should do the trim around the rear 1/4 window, as I think it will look too bright against the blue...but hey, we all have different tastes and just like the s/c some if not most may believe it a better choice so in the end - do what you want! Me - mine stays all-original.
Webba
Mark, in my case I agree with Swede. I had ordered my SGT but had the dealer play the ADM bend over game so I had to find my exact ordered car elsewhere and it was on the floor. I regret not getting the S/C terribly. I am working on rectifying it. I am just waiting for the East Coast mod shop thing to happen or not happen so I can decide what I am going to do. Anyway, you will be getting your car in the fall it seems correct? The lower grill can be put in easily youself...the fogs we are STILL waiting for to come out catalog. In fact I am STILL waiting OFFICIAL word from SAI as to when. Sorry sore subject for me. Anyway the mods you listed wanting done can be done by you without much hassle, as I am sure you realize. I just think that the SS and KR conversions are going to consume the mod shop until they are up to speed. The amount of conversions they are doing is big and will take I would think 2 years. So any timeframe they give you I would add a month to. I am not saying they are lying but things happen. We give our customers lead-times and the past few months cant come close to meeting. Things happen, people get sick, machinery breaks down, people call you non stop bugging you, etc. So if you can live with that then I would have them do it, if not save the $$ and do it yourself and drive her sooner
Crucible
Initially, I regreted not getting the SC. However, after getting 373 gears, underdrive pulley and a Diablo reprograming, I'm completely satisfied with my 350+ horses. Seriously, how often would I get to use 500 ponies? What I wanted was torque and that is what I got.

Mine has been sitting in the Vegas desert for 5 months with the sand and birds having their way with my baby while I wait patiently for the SC install. Never did I dream that after the car got to SAI in late February that I would have to worry whether I would have time to break it in before winter sets in here in the East!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am really beginning to second guess myself at this point. Since I've waited this long, I'm going to stick it out. Hey, who knows, maybe I'll get #6000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CrazyDave_merged
To blow or not to blow, that is the question. I also have no regrets having bought off the showroom floor. If I had wanted 500hp I would have chosen the GT500. If I wanted 400+HP, I could have bought a Vette. The GT is what it is. My Stang is a daily driver. I get plenty of wood with it's meager 319 ponies. I don't care about the "arms race" in HP. More is not always better. And I agree with a statement "where are you going to use that much power anyway?" Only at a race track I hope. Call me a wimp if you want. A lot of us are as happy as clams with stock GTs. I still think that the Tom, Dick, and Hemis have nothing on us.

I still think that the Tom, Dick, and Hemis have nothing on us. I don't think anyone would call you a wimp for not wanting a SC. Everyone has his or her own preferences and it is a nice feeling, great driving car as is. I personally feel this car has a lot of bark but a weak bite when you look at the cars others want to compare it to (myself included). I don't see it as "in it's class" but in-between classes. Sure gears, programming, headers, etc. can boost the grunt of the car marginally but for the worry and expense IMO the SC is the only way to go. Instant power and as long as you don't go hog wild with boost, it's relatively safe on the engine. Besides, when you look at most of the other "specialty ponys" coming out over the next few years, the SGT is on the bottom of the list power-wise. That aggravates me greatly. Unfortunately - call it vain if you will - that is my main reason for wanting a blower. Besides as far as when you will get to use 450-500 horses, it's better to have it and not need it then to need it an have it, know what I mean. I'm planning on trying my luck at the new track down the road from me if it will ever open and I can just imagine how a blown SGT will run! You talk about wood, I'll be wearing safety glasses to keep from poking out an eye.

ilmor
Let's be realistic, though. Only race cars "need" that much power. On the public streets, unless youre doing something illegal or dangerous, you don't "need" it...but you might still like to have it for fantasy or just to be able to say you have it, or for that occasional burst onto the interstate....but those times are such short-lived, is it really worth it? I don't think so, but I'm probably just too practical.
mywickedshelby
I think the point here is that you dont NEED IT. .....in my opinion. As a motorhead, you can wax poetic about how much you WANT it....really really really WANT it. Unless you need to boost your ego street racing, or putting yo-yo's in their place...you dont NEED it. Living in New York, I realized that putting yo-yo's in their place is a full time job with few rewards. And trust me I have decked my fair share, but alas, in the horsepower race, there will ALWAYS be someone out there with a bigger gun, as in life in general. (Except in your case Adam!) Now, TO WANT it is fine. You work hard for your money and I would never tell you how to use your money. That would be out of line. But this car definately duznt NEED it. Comparisons of how much our cars have versus other Stangs is also not relevant. (to me!) I feel this car stands on its own merits, as is, stock, as the BEST LOOKING MUSTANG EVER. And the 319hp is all I need to enjoy pushing the road (and the days conditions) to the limit. I know the inclination is: "hey what you got under that hood?" but all in all for me, thats a bunch of macho, one up the other guy, I AM THE BEST AND NO ONE CAN TOP ME NONSENSE I have seen all my life living in and around NYC. Maybe I feel this way because...... here, there is no chance to be top dog. There is just too much money. and It taught me to be comfortable in my own skin. I direct this at no one in particular, just at the general discussion and in no way seek to pass judgement on anyone or their intention on how to modify their rides. Just my nickel. By the way, I cant wait to see the SC'd cars at Tasca!

Yeah but it still is cool laying down rubber in first second and third gears, when that kid in his riced out srt-4 comes revving his engine next to you, then you leave him with his jaw on the floor. AFBLUE
Wow! Thanks for all the inputs. I think I'm going to just have the car delivered to me (no mod shop visit) and do the simple stuff myself. The SGT currently has more rwhp than my vortech supercharged 96GT, so I think I can live with that for a little while, (plus it will give me more time to budget for it). As for a supercharger, I think I'll wait until there is an East Coast Mod shop. There may be a black FRPP/whipple in my future.

SWEDESHELBY1
Not entirely true Swede-my car is naturally aspirated by preferrence. I've owned a supercharged car before and honestly I like the sound of N/A muscle over the whiny sound of the S/C-my .02 in it's entire feeling. Don't get me wrong here. I am talking about the power issue and for the money there is no way to get that kind of power without the SC.The SC cars are way more desireable than the regular SGT because of the amount of hassle you had to go through when getting a factory SAI SC car, big big wait. Also the cars that have a "factory" SAI SC are worth $$ than those without a SC because of the limited numbers put out by SAI. And even though I love the sound of a naturally aspirated car, the SAI SC with the Shelby name right on the SC is extremely impressive. That is just my opinion and let me ask you this, if money and time was NOT an issue would you have bought a car with the Shelby/Paxon SC? I think I already know your answer, unless you just hate SC'd cars.
AFBLUE
I'm actually a little jaded against Superchargers, based on my experience with my Vortech. Maybe an anomaly but I had the following issues 1. Initially ran way too rich. Only got 207rwhp on a mustang dyno. An increase of around 40rwhp. Vortech sent a new FMU but after paying another $100 on the dyno, the problem still wasn't fixed. Vortech was out of ideas and basically provided no more assistance to fix the issue. A year has passed trying to get the problem resolved and I'm getting ready to move to another state. Out of frustration I paid another few hundred to get an aftermarket chip to fix a problem that should have not been an issue in the first place (chip did fix rich problem and I ended up with 90 additional rwhp). 2. My fuel pumps kept failing. Got 2 replaced before a tech finally found out that the initial installer hadn't wired it right and that it had a short in it. 3. To add to my anxiety, the day after I got it installed I cracked my factory plastic plenium with coolent spraying all over my windshield (a defective Ford part that was replaced for free) Needless to say, while I like the extra hp, it was initially a pain in the butt making repeated trips to the shop, dyno, and frustration with Vortech's inability to provide solutions. I've been leery of superchargers ever since, but may give it another try.

bmcinnis
I own 07SGT3456. Since purchasing the car, I have added a Paxton/Shelby supercharger, FR 3:73 gears, Coast aluminum driveshaft, and a custom tune. I've never had any mechanical issues with the car and it's scary fast. While I argree that 456RWHP isn't completely necessary, it's nice to know that 07SGT3456 can contend with nearly every car (stock) on the road. They see nothing but tail lights!!! :o
