fastbk doc
Has anyone replaced their factory shifter with an aftermarket one? I've got a 500 vert but got to play with a new GT yesterday. The shifter that Shelby installed in that car felt great. It had a very crisp, positive feel, with a very short throw, but was a five speed. What a muscle car should feel like. It felt a lot better than my factory short throw. Do they make that shifter for our 500s in a six speed?

I called Ford racing earlier this week and they have them in stock. $200 and change. Does not come with a knob. I am waiting for more of the parts to show up in SAI's store and will be purchasing from them with the idea I can have SAI install them in their mod shop if they can get me a slot. I had a Steeda Tri-Ax shifter installed in my GT500 last April, it is an excellent shifter, crisp and smooth and true to Steeda's claims, I haven't missed third gear once since it was installed. I can't say anything bad about the Tri-Ax except maybe it's price; beside the price, it is an excellent aftermarket shifter for the GT500. I'm having the 40th package upgrade and may be able to have SAI do this for me when I'm out there.
WP64
WP, Did you install yourself? If so very hard? No, I did not install it myself. I was having the gears changed to 3.73's and the stock driveshaft had to come out to change the gears so anticipating that I had a new aluminum driveshaft and the Tri-Ax shifter installed with the new gears all at the same time. My shop told me that they typically remove the driveshaft when installing a shifter, it makes it easier to access the area where the shifter is. They charged me for 1 hour of labor for the shifter install. Hope that helps, WP

Sounds like installation may require a lift if they removed the driveshaft and I can see why removing it would be easier! Better spend a little more and hire out! Hey it's only money!!!! :D
