Glenn Greenwell
Stump, Well just goes to show the car should have had fogs or driving lights as part of the package like the GT-H prior to leaving SAI. Not a big fan of after market behind the grill lights, but then again, ain't my ride. Why not just put the OEM grill back in or buy an aftermarket with them close together in the middle. Enjoy !!!!!!!!! GG
SWEDESHELBY1
Flame suit on.... :D Very ingenious I must say. Please tell us the exact method you used by answering these questions below: 1) Did you use the wiring harnesses from the factory? 2) What brand lights did you use? 3) What was the time to install these (not including the purchase time) 4) Are you going to keep these lights or are they just temporary? 5) What does the install look like from the hood open aspect? Thank you for the response.
ilmor
One more question - Could round ones fit in there - I could get off my rear and go look at my own I guess....
dave c
Flame suit on.... :D Stump, It doesn't look bad. What does it look like with the lights spread further apart? Perhaps some night pics would be cool. Dave
MattInDetroit
Someone here has already pointed out why you can do this with the stock grill and stock lights but I'm not sure what thread it was. I too thought I'd like them a bit further apart but the way they are now they seem to be centered in the middle of each stripe. If you try to move them much more it looks like you'll hit the stock light brackets or risk coming too close to the pony emblem. I guess a compromise. I like how they look on...not sure how I feel when their off...be col if they had a sliding black cover.
stump_breaker
OK. Lets' see if I can answer all questions at once. I'm sure it's not SAI approvd. They didn't make money off it it. :D I didn't want the OEM lights but the Elanor style. Problem is I can not find the center mount lights in a billet aluminum grill for less than $485. That aint happening. My idea was to replace the Shelby grill (polishing and putting it up for the future of course) with an 500E retro style grill. This is a "for now" situation until I find a better replacement although I think it looks pretty good. In no way was anything damaged on the car. Only the factory plastic grill was touched. There is not exact method. I just removed the gril assembly then removed the Shelby grill so I did not mess it up. I'm glad I did. My Shelby grill was loose (come on SAI, what gives? It's just 4 bolts!) From there I just used tin snips a hacksaw blade and a drill and a Dremmel to remove pieces of plastic that were in the way. Not a hack job mind you. I took it slow and deburred as I went with a laminate file. All in all about two hours time spent since I had to mount the lights to clear the frame. This meant doing the job twice as I mis-measured the first time by about 1/2". 1. Used factory harness that is zip tied to the radiator mounts. 2. Don't remember the brand but it's a dual fog/driving light combo and I wired them together. Maybe Hella? They're leftovers are off my Jeep before I went to 6" lights. 3. See above. 4. See above. 5.You cant see anything with the hood open. Now for the round lights. With a fabbed bracket, round slim lights will fit in the factory openings. The OEM fog lights from my 05 Wrangler did fit flush to the shelby grill but I did not like the look. Where I have my lights mounted you can fit some round lights there if you cut it correctly. I did not measure to be sure but I would not go bigger than two 5" lights since I'm sure the plastic is structural support for the Shelby grill. Any bigger than two 5" lights would take quite a bit of the plastic away. Where these lights are mounted I have about 2"-3" or so before getting into the stock holes. BTW, the Shelby's do not come with the 20 amp mini fuse for the factory fogs. I really think blackout driving lights would look better but I had these in the Barn. autoplay
The size of the lamps you're using Stumper....look more suited to going behind the lower grille, which IMO,would look better. You up to playing with that idea?

You up to playing with that idea? I thoght about that. It's just where I live and what I need them for - especially with as low as the car sits - they suit me better in the upper grill. I also figured out a way to mount the plate in the lower grill to help protect the radiator and AC coil. I could not believe the bugs and dents even with the lower grill! There is heat from the lights but it more heats the aluminum grill than the plastic. There is enough space that the heat disapates before heating up the plastic. Here are some night shots. The pics really suck but the lights work surprisingly well coming from behind the grill. I think they are too powerful though. I think I lost a pint of blood to mosquitos. I'm feeling a little woozy. You can see the little b******s flying around if you look close enough.
autoplay
Was looking at the wifes car tonight for bout 10 minutes,in a different frame of mind. Got me thinking, and seriously considering buying a used 05 on up V6 model.....and doing some custom mods on it. It could be her beater/daily driver to work car,as it gets transformed into a 1 of a kind Shelby Clone. This all came about, cuz Stumper had me look at the opening of the lower grille Been years since I seriously wrenched/fabbed on cars, day and night. Maybe the thoughts I had tonight, will transpire to a finished reality in 5 years?

savage1969
Hey Stump, where are you going to put your front plate now? I noticed you used to have it attached to the grill. Are you seriously going to use the factory mount and screw into the front fascia? Don't do it, you will regret it. I'm still trying to get mine repaired in time for an upcoming car show. With the lower grill installed you can actually wedge the plate in under the upper bumper and lower bumper (I guess that's what you would call it) and it fits very tight. Looks WAY better as well. HeThinksItsHis_merged
When you have a chance Stump get a pic of the car with the new license plate location. We live in Texas as well and I am NOT going to drill into our front bumper. Would appreciate any ideas you have come up with. We are carrying ours in the trunk for now hoping we don't have any run in's with the cops.

Gtplumber is supposed to be posting up some info on a no drill plate mount that may be our answer...
