I am writing to you from my room in the Planet Hollywood Hotel in sunny Las Vegas!!!. Tommorrow I pick up my new SGT w/S/C. I am pretty exited now. All those months waiting and waiting. Reading all the posts. I was so tired of the waiting!. I know all of you guys and gals are feeling the same way too. But the day will come when you are here in Vegas or watching your car roll off the transporter at your house. Hang in there.

I plan on taking some photos of my journey from the pick up to the time I drive up into my driveway. If I can figure out to post them here I will be happy to. For all you folks out there waiting for S/C I will take more fotos of the engine compartment. I am also Planning to drag the car next wed. at Sears Point Raceway(Infineon). So that nite I will post some times for you. I do not have drag Radials yet so there may be a problem with the hookup.

Oh one more thing if anyone who is reading this lives in the SF Bay area I will be showing the car this sunday at Pacific Dream Machines Car Show in Half Moon Bay. Please look for me there.

Your day will come and the waiting will be over. Then all there will be is new memories to create.

Regards , Jonathan

PS I have this habit when staying at a hotel. I always check under the mattress , I have found some interesting things over the years. When I checked today in I found a new crisp $ 1 dollar bill. An omen? I hope so...

Well......we're waiting. Is there any rubber left? How many races have you been in. Pull over and start posting. We need details. What's your CSM#? How loud is the S/C whine? What's kind of gas mileage did you get?(oh we don't care about that). Those of us that are still waiting on our mods are living through you right now. You lucky dog. Congratulations B)

Forget it...this is what ALWAYS happens. They talk a lot here...contribute, then get their cars and BAM! They're gone! Right now he's on his 13,978th lap around the Hoover dam and not thinking of any of us. It's this hting that happens even to someone as well intentioned here. They go from "I'll report back", "I'll post pics", I'll stop by on my way back home and give you a ride", yes, it all ends.

I look forward to the day I can stop posting here!

....geez guys give the fellow a break. He should have gotten the keys to his car around lunch time yesterday. Lunch time in Vegas. Then who knows what his plans were. He may have started the drive home to the Bay area. Or he may be having fun in on the strip. I think you should at least give him until Sunday night before we start acting like he has abandonded us.

........OK, I may be politicing for my upcoming delivery. :P

I know you guys think I deserted you but alas I have not forsaken my brothers. Oh ye of little faith!!!!

My car is # 198

What an experience! I took my brothers advice and hired a sedan to take me to Shelby from my hotel. On the way the guys talking to me and hes like what are you doing at the sppedway? So I tell him the story about the Shelbys and he's like wow, they have a museum? Im like yeah. How much does it cost he asks... Im like well its free. So he says, well I dont have anything to do so he parks the car and goes in for the tour!.

Anyway as I am driving up to Shelby there is a white SGT sitting surrounded by cones where they always take fotos, you know with the Big Shelby sign in the background. So I enter thru the front door and the first thing I see is a sign on a tripod that says........

" Welcome Jonathan Ramey to Shelby American!"

Things are looking good. Its about 10 minutes to 10 am. So I ask the guy behind the desk if Larry is here and he says whats your name ? I told him and he smiled and said weve been expecting you. So out comes Larry (the guy who schedules the deliverys) he's all smiles. Then John comes out and he's smiling from ear to ear. We make some small talk. John says did you see the white SGT out front? Yes I reply. Thats number 198 he says. Now I am all smiles.

There must have been 20-25 people there waiting for the tour to start and Larry escorts me as we listen all about Carrolls cool cars in the museum. Once we are in the shop area Steve is telling all the folks about the SGT program when he says " Mr Ramey is the first person to recieve a Shelby GT ala Super Charger! # 1. Larry also repeats that later to the croud as I can barley contain myself... Larry then takes me thru the shop pointing out several things that all our our cars go thru. Very nice man and informative. I sign the wall where all people that take delivery sign , just near the door leading out front where my car is waiting.

Outside John is snapping fotos of the car were shaking hands for more fotos, Larry too. All the factory stickers are still on the windows so I could get fotos before John personally peeled off the stickers and handed them to me with all my paperwork, including the Shelby brakes, S/C, etc... They are washing my windows people from the tour are congradulating me. One guy came up and tried to give me some money he said towards my first speeding ticket! All the while john and Larry are getting me ready to shove off and answering the few questions I have. I cant stop smiling... John tells me to start it up and let er idle for a few minutes. So I get in for the first time and fire it up. What a sweet sound.

A few minutes later Gary Pattersen comes out and introduces himself, and then Amy Boylan comes over and shakes my hand. We talk for a while and shes telling me that the white SGT's look really good with tint on the windows and the front headlights and turn signal lites. Im thinking , shes right! She also said (you guys are gonna love this) tehy are soon to have a aluminum Shelby plate that replaces the ford racing plate on the underhood cross brace!! How cool is that!!! It did not make it to production but none the less will be available and I am going to purchase one asap.

The time is about 10 to 1200. John, and Larry have loaded me up with brakes in the trunk, one great goody bag with stuff I wont tell you whats in it because I do not want to ruin your suprise. But I will tell you, its good stuff!

I shake John and Larrys hand once more and tell them I am hitting the road. I get in start up the car once more and proceed to act like I cant drive a clutch! The shifter is close ratio and like nothing I have ever felt. The throttle was wanting to either idle or go halfway to the floor! So I am going rump, rump, rump out of the parking lot in 1st and second gear. I wave one last time to John and Larry as I hit the gas out of the parking lot onto the street. The only thing I can think of is those guys must think Ive never driven a clutch before! I just sold my 67 GT 500 with an all aluminum, CShelby 427 with ungodly horsepower and torque. I bought it at Carroll Shelby Enterprises in Gardena Ca. Clearly the clutch and shifter were way different on that car. Im just not used to this modern technology, yet... By the way that car had 554 HP and 595 ft pds of torque on the Shelby dyno. I only had 50 or so miles on the motor when I sold that car. Dark Moss green, Black interior. That was a hard day for me selling that car. I had it for 12 years, 3 different motors, drag racing Sears Point. Paid 19k for the car!!!

I remiss... So Larry told me... call me after you get over the pass and let me know how the temp gauge is doing. He was curious. Its about 90 degrees plus outside and the grade is kinda steep. When I called Shelby american on my speed dial I got the receptionist at the front of the museum. I asked for larry she said i had to call another number. Ive got no brain power to remember the number and my CS pen they gave me is somwhere in the car along with parts and paperwork and luggage. So I said could you just give him a message? She said she would not see him the rest of the day. I think he works in another bldg or something. Ive gotmy hands full of shifter and still no mind yet so I say can you give John the message she said sure whats your name? I said Jonathan Ramey and as she is repeating my name, John must be within earshot and I can hear him say...Is that Jonathan Ramey? she says yes. The next thing I new John was like heyJonathan hows it going? So told him what Larry wanted and reported absolutely no problems with the temperature. He was glad to hear that And Im off to california... The point I am trying to make is I felt like a Hollywood Moviestar at Shelby American. Everyone that was working that day was introduced to me and they really go out of their way . I was almost embarrassed by all the attention I was getting from the staff and I felt like a celebrity with the regular folks just taking the tour. Many people came up and congradulated me. The folks at Shelby are number one thats for sure.

Whew this is long. Sorry

Ok to the good stuff... I took it easy the first 460 miles. I am just driving the car nicely real mellow. But the whole time I am thinking, Man this thing is kinda slow! Slower that I expected.. I only had my 67 GT 500 monster to compare it to. The handling was superb. Negotiating the only turns in the road (off ramps) it felt like a go cart. Sticking like glue. But I couldnt get over how much I thought ...Maybe they forgot to flash my computer or something....

I pulled into my pit stop at my buddys house in Lemoore Ca. for the nite. never once squeeling the tires. I was pretty exhausted from the whole ordeal.

The next day my buddy and I go for a ride. Im like how many miles does a modern car need to be brake in?? he says , I think 500. Im like well 46 something is close enough. So were out on this lonely farm road no cars in sight. I stomp the throttle to the floor and run it up to 5500-5600rpm between shifts. First gear is put you back in your seat time... cought a nice long chirp from first to second. third gear I feel like this is more like it!! 4th gear we are still accellerating very fast. We are at about 90 -100 mph. 5th gear we fly upto 120-130. I am scared now and let off a little. We coast back down to 70 or so and we look at each other and just laugh out loud.. That what Im talking about!!!!

For you guys getting the S/C dont hesitate. I dont know what its like to drive one w/o but I am for sure ruined now. This car sounds soooo good accelerates so fast and corners so predictably. The guys at Car and Driver are just nuts or ford haters I am not sure which. To write such a less than deserved review of this car. I dont miss my GT 500 so much now.

God Bless Carroll Shelby and staff.

As I said before I am no writer. it is what it is.. Its really cool to know I have the very first S/C Shelby GT what a suprise.

If you guys have any questions you would like to ask fire away. I am going out of the country tommorrow night but will have some time to answer if needed.

Oh yeah, John said now they have the parts, the shop up and running and now one S/C under their belt . You can look for a rachet up on mods? Good luck and hang in there!!! regards Jonathan

ps I will post some fotos tommorrow , I am beat!

Good for you! Just plain cool! Savor every moment of your experience! What options did you get? I'll be picking mine up there around 10 May when the silver razors are in.

Thanks brother!

I got the sc, brakes in a box, brake ducts, aluminum rear window block off plates, gun metal razors (no rubber yet what are you using for tires?)

Congrats Jonathan. That's super awesome. Is your car the first leaving SAI with the installed S/C? If so, see if you can get something written saying so - even if hand-written.

Yeah I didnt want to bother them with that there. I thought I would ask john via email. I dont want to put him on the spot. But they said it during the tour 3 times!

Congrats and welcome to the family!!! In a few short hours, all the PSDS will melt away and you'll be building all the new memories for your cars scrapbook.

Enjoy the ride!!!

Gary

Thanks Gary!

Dont crash 10 minutes after you get the car "dude"

and by the way...."you are unprepared again"

Love,

your favorite high school teacher

(nothing but love for you)

ha ha ha . You are the greatest! I hope you know I was just kidding teach! Thanks for the advice. I am more worred about my friends crashing my car. I let three guys drive it today. One is my mechanic and he is missing his left arm from an accident!

Congrats and yes lets see the pictures for us poor souls who keep getting the " arrived at Shelby" message. Steve

Steve stop looking at that!!! Mine still says arrived at shelby. There really is no way around the suffering! It will make a man out of all of us! Thanks Jonathan

Well......we're waiting. Is there any rubber left? How many races have you been in. Pull over and start posting. We need details. What's your CSM#? How loud is the S/C whine? Im not so worried about the rubber becaus ei got razors to put on when the originals show the braiding. The S/c makes a really cool exhaust sound when you are shifting and let your foot off the gas. Not so much whining though. You know its there. Gas milage is gonna be worse than non S/C thats for sure but whos counting....I never was that great with numbers!

Thanks

Jonathan, Wow what a great experience! As my wife and I read your story we could feel your pride and emotions as you stood there center stage to receive your car and meet all the great people who work at Shelby, who are making all of our dreams come true. We are all part of this "Shelby family". I am so happy for you, but a little envious as well. We won't be getting ours until June, due to the fact that we ordered the chrome razors, which still aren't here. Oh well, it's worth the wait!!!!! Glad you made it home OK, safe and sound. Can't wait to see your pics. Maybe someday we'll all meet at a Shelby-GT reunion. Happy cruzin'.

Dave

My stock SGT sets everyone back in there seats but to think a S/C on that motor, it is just incredible. Thanks for the post and to think your car is the first S/C made on a SGT is awesome. I DO NOT think you'll be losing any sleep over what you paid for it now, the car is probably worth $75K just for the designation of being #1. Enjoy it.

Oh I almost forgot. The Car & Dumber writers are all Eurotrash lovers and Rice rocket lovers (sorry for that) they wouldn't know how to drive an strong V-8 muscle car if their life depended on it let alone write about one.

Congrat's and enjoy, you deserve it!
