Auto trans - how to spin tires?

If you want nice tire peels, you should have gone with the stick. The auto is so boring, to each his own I guess. You used to be able to put the car in neutral and slam it into gear for a nice burnout. I did that a lot on rental cars, fun. They may have taken the fun out of it by limiting the rpm's in neutral via the computer, gotta go with the stick.

At the risk of offending you - why would you want to "powerbrake" to spin the rear tires?

If you're racing - yes - you'd want to bring the revs up and then release and go!

But you wouldn't want to get the rears spinning before getting the "light."

Excessive wheelspin = slow.

The videos you see (not sure which ones) are probably "braked" burnouts.

It can be done with a manual or auto - just easier with an auto.

"Neutral drops" (revving in neutral - then dropping it into drive) will leave your trans in pieces before long.

It doesn't take much hp to "brake" the rear tires loose.

But - I don't see the reason. Especially if you're buying the tires.

Line up against me at a light - and see how little tire smoke you'll see! You smoke your's - I'll see ya later.

Watch Top Fuel drag racers - or Pro Stock. How much tire smoke do you see when the tree turns green?

Your tires - your $$. :hysterical:

Here's two burns out with auto's. The car has line locks so it won't wear down the rear brakes. The car just had the motor rebuilt and has a KB supercharger. http://don.2005stang.com/Burnouts_at_ST_7-8-06.wmv (17mb)

Here's my car which is also an auto. My tuner just get done making some adjustments to the trans.

Waste of rubber - +1 -

Maybe it's a showoff thing - or a macho thing?

Anyone can just about get any car to smoke the tires.

I don't get it.

I watched the vids. Why do it? My 19 Toyos are about $250 each for the rears.

You ain't gonna see mine left on the ground like these guys.

Maybe they like to play John Force! :hysterical:

Bryan, when I go racing at the local dragstrip, it is crucial to power brake and spin the drag radials to warm them up before staging to race so that the tires are sticky for better traction and launch. As you've mentioned already, when it is time to actually race, you need the tires to stick with a minimum of tire spin to lower your ET and win the race. Tire smoke = lost acceleration.
