ratnacage
just got this one in today. We're waiting on a specialist to authenticate it. All indications are it's real (aluminum body, Shelby VIN plaque on dash, etc) UPDATE: yesterday was my day off, so I didn't have first hand info, however today I saw that it is a CSX Cobra (427 aluminum block). The transport that brought us a Ford GT also had this on board. He needed some extra room as he was then going to other dealers to pick up two more GT's so he left the Cobra in our showroom. The CSX was in the process of being repo'd, so we scrambled this morning getting as much info as possible to see if we could buy it from the bank and sell it on eBay. Turns out you can buy a brand new one for about $140k, but I think the bank was in this one for $98k. Given that even Caroll Shelby's CSX demo car is on eBay for only $120k, we let the car go after receiving our other GT's. But, holy Sh** that car sounded sooo bad ass! All indications are it's real (aluminum body, Shelby VIN plaque on dash, etc) If you got it without previously authenticating it it's fake. Those cars don't sell without COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE of the origin/status. It's a 1 - 2 MILLION dollar car dude, your owner wouldn't throw it on the floor unless he was an IDIOT. Evil95GT
Maybe it's one of the CSX turn-key cars. That would be my guess.
kb67
Chris is right that vin should be in the Shelby registry if its a real deal Cobra. Think the SAAC is now listing the CSX cars and anything else that Carroll Shelby has given his blessing to as Shelby continuation cars. Thats how the Unique performance cars are included in the registry. I don't know if a revised registry is out yet with all those in it but I know they track orginal vins pretty tight to keep the clones out. You should be able to contact SAAC they probably can help you verify a vin real quick. If its real Cobra its documented they just don't float around for sell. The circumstances surrounding its arrival are a bit unusual. I'll have more info tomorrow about it. I do know it has about 700 original miles. Last I heard it would be you can check with the SAAC they update the registry. hq@saac.com can try this email they may be able to shed some light as to whats going on with it being in the registry and when it would be updated in there.
