Made Up My Mind

RUFDRAFT

Recommended Posts

Ruf, your statment about looking for an extra 8K Shelby on the street sounds a lot like the little mans syndrome to me. The little guy always thinks if he can get in a fight with a big guy, then he will be big too. Doesn't work and it will not work with a modded GT either. It will still be a GT, not a Shelby. Anyway something tells me you will change your mind several more times before this is done.

I don't know anything about Blueteeth or Homeagain... :baby:

And - I'm very - very close to either:

a) Shooting myself with a large caliber hangun

B) forgetting a Mustang all together

c) Taking a fresh VISA and going to Vegas until it runs out.

d) Becoming Gay

:banghead:

Bryan, you're thinking out loud again. :ohsnap:

RUFDRAFT,

Take a week or two "off;" don't even think about cars, and then go get the GT (or hold on to your MSRP Shelby). Ultimately, I think you'll love either. The GT be damn fast even if you do a conservative 430HP, (Roush does work with Ford, warranty, conservative boast--Roush says 415HP--with pulleys, etc easy I think to get to 430 or 440HP and not stress the 4.6 too much,) and it will be unique--you'll be able to do wheels, etc to your style, and feel good about saving money. If you get the Shelby at MSRP how can you lose? It's a win/win.

You guys are the best.

These threads remind me of when I was a teen - we'd hang around the local Sunoco gas station and talk just like this! :happy feet:

Who's doing what to their car - who wants to do what - when's the next race - did you see that '55 Chevy from out of town? -

I appreciate all your input.

I gave up my MSRP deal so someone else in town could have it. He's been a Mustang "guy" for years. :shift:

Great idea Jesse!

And - he's promised me some wheel time in the Shelby!

Great guy - name is Otis - so he has to be! :hysterical:

If you guys come up to new york, we've already named a village for him: Otisville! I'll buy you both icecream as long as I can take a drive! ;-) Ok, two ice creams each!! :hysterical:

68 - I like the cut of your jib!

That's one of the inherent problems with this sort of dialog - we never get to meet those we engage on the site. Too bad, too.

I can see us gathered up at some resort.

Big dining hall. Lots of "kill" stories. A little too much beer. Some burnouts in the parking lot. Some arm wrestling. Photo albums to share. Tech talk. Yeah. It would be Time Well Spent, you hear? :happy feet:

Cobra8u: I'm not trying to "build" a Shelby. I was trying to act responsibly and configure a Mustang that would better meet my financial criteria and still give me fun behind the wheel. I'm not sure what you mean by your "little man" reference.

If you knew my family situation, you wouldn't be so aggressive with your post.

You want and can afford a Shelby? Go for it.

Don't like my posts? Don't reply.

You dig?

Thanks for the kind offer '68fastback'. Doubles is a difficult thing to refuse. I'd like to meet you. Whereas I may find myself in your neck of the woods, it is extremely doubtful I'd be taking the Shelby. Mine is destine to be a garage queen.

Bryan,

I totally understand and respect your decision. Although you've had a yearning for the GT500, I feel that you'll be content in a roots-blown 4.6L. I base this opinion on the fact that my husband has had a KB-blown '95 GT for 11 years, and the car is an all around great car that you can drive anywhere reliably, kicking major ass all the way there and back. They're really great systems, and by far and away the best bang for your buck on the market.

I can feel your pain though. Rather than buy a Shelby, I'm stuck with three five liters, all with less than 34K, and all modded in some wacky combos. I may end up with an SRT8 Charger or Magnum, but who knows.

Ruf, I thought you were saying that you would build a GT and then go looking for Shelbys to race because you would have as much HP, less weight, 8k less money in it and then get the same/more satisfaction than the guy in the Shelby. I just sold my 96 Cobra modifed by PHP with an s-trim and about 470 rwhp. I could have kept it and went looking for Shelbys to race, but even if I won, I would still want the Shelby and the Shelby driver would view me as a wana be.

As you know, the people who really do buy one of these things are probably making a sacrifice somwhere else in their lives for it and are not going to be very impressed just because somebody in a modded GT wants to race. Part of the point is that I am willing to spend the extra 8K now and more later to mod a Shelby. If you don't want to or can't , that's fine but some of your coments sounded kind of cocky, like a little guy picking a fight and you said bring on the flames. So i thought you expected some other opinions, but if you don't like mine don't reply. Dig?

No problem, I actually think Ruf is a pretty interesting guy, and do not want upset anybody, but we all have our own views. I have had the same one for several years and tend to stick to it and not go all over the map. I don't let a few lines on a computer screen ruin my day and hope other people feel the same.

Very good advice - oh wise one! :hysterical:

My only real passion is cars.

I don't hunt - fish - (though I'd like to) - do drugs - gamble - or have a mistress.

I work full and part-time.

I like to have a cool car.

I did my math - and a blown GT with a few other mods will come in at least $8k less than a Shelby. To me, that's eight - thousand - dollars. And I"ll have 500 hp. And less weight.

I haven't been trying to talk anyone out of one. If you want a Mustang with Shelby lettering - and an overweight engine - and pay for it - so be it. It's your bread.

I'm not going to race the car.

I don't care how many suspension "upgrades" SVT or Ford or Shelby factored in.

I don't think the name alone is worth the extra money.

I want a hot rod - and I want the best value.

To me - that's a GT with a blower and few extras.

And - I'll be looking for a $8k extra Shelby on the streets! :shift:

Okay - flame suit is on and activated! :hysterical:

RUFDRAFT,

so sorry to here you won't be buying your GT500, but so you know,

not everybody is paying MSRP for there car.

I'm paying a lot less so your theory doesn't really work out in my

in my figures. Where do you live :shift: there's a GT Mustang looking for a

GT500 to burst his bubble somewhere in your area :hysterical:

Yep - words here can be taken many ways.

I know. I teach a couple of online courses, and students frequently misinterpret my comments.

I wasn't trying to show up any Shelbys - just have some fun with them.

As a matter of fact, I've never engaged anyone in a street light deal unless I thought they had an equal or better chance of beating me. No fun playing with someone you KNOW you can beat.

Peace, my brother. :bandance:

Ok, now that we're over that little speed bump, time for a group hug!

Somehow, my wife seems to understand, although her perspective ads new meaning to the old phrase "damning by faint praise." She told me "well, at least your not looking at porn like so-and-so!" Wha?

Okay - here's something new.

I just got off the phone with a dealer in Richmond VA who claims there's a new interior upgrade option that has a "carbon fibre" looking dash. He says it looks very cool.

Anyone else know about this? Perhaps it's only on the GT's?

Mind made up. done , enough already, good luck RUFDRAFT Your probably not alone here. I'm sure a lot of people are in the same sinking boat. Jump off while the waters shallow and calm!!! Family first I always said. If you and your family sleep comfortably in a Mustang then go for it. If your single with no serious responsibilities then go for it. If your a family guy and have the the dough as in disposable cash then go for it. If it's maybe so, maybe not then forget about it.

This car has captured the hearts and made dreamers of so many. Fact is when this boat full of GT500 buyers sets sail it will be only half full or half empty. And that my friend is how it is. You can take that to the bank!

It came out in 2006, and is called "Charcoal Aluminum Applique". It is not new. It's just a secondary option to choose over the "Satin Aluminum" one on the Interior Upgrade Package. It does look like carbon fiber. Please see:

http://www.lotpro.com/cars/2006/ford/mustang/options/

CHARCOAL ALUMINUM INSTRUMENT PANEL APPLIQUE

(REQ: 18G Interior Upgrade Pkg)

It can be had on ANY Mustang.

Thanks - but the site doesn't have any photos...

Hopefully, I'll get one from the salesguy tomorrow.

It's much better looking than the Satin Aluminum. Go find an 06 on the lot, GT is your best bet since they usually have the upgrade. Not hard to find. I'd find a real car instead of a pic.

LOL, I can't find a pic either. Ford's great about making it IMPOSSIBLE to figure out what the hell you're buying.
