Original style GT500 lights for the new GT500

The one thing I wish they would do with the GT500 is to user rear tail lights that are more reminiscent of the originals. To use tail lights similar to the originals would require a break between the taillight sections where the trunk opens but I don’t imagine running wiring for those lights would be much harder than running the wiring for the center brake light. I happen to find a good shot of a GT500 on TheMustangSource.com so I took a copy and modified it with Photoshop to kind of give an idea of what a more original GT500 rear light setup might look like on the new GT500’s (original and modified pictures are attached). The editing is a little rough since I did it in about 30 minutes but it at least gives the general idea of what I am thinking. What does everyone else think?

You got this one right on the money - I still can not figure out why they did not do this, its the only area of the car that Ford should have done something with to make it Shelby unique, besides the lettering Shelby.

Maybe someone will offer an after market kit that can this.

As I looked at the pics of the Alloy car today, I thought again what a terrible job of the back of the car they did. This would be about as cheap a solution as any. The back of the car looks just plain FAT. The T-bird style lights take a lot of the visual depth out of it. Good call and thanks for the Pshop effort.

AWESOME in one word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hysterical:

As a matter of fact, your lights complament the "SHELBY" badging much much more,

cause I hated when they put the better looking letters on the GT-H.

I have already ordered the "old school" letters through shopshelby.com

GOOD POST

Mmmmm, LED's..... I know there are kits to do the sequential LED's for the current model.

Retrofitting to the 5 lense version... maybe a BIT more work! :banghead:

I would be all over an aftermarket taillight kit and scoops for the GT500; assuming it meshes well with the car's styling, but I don't think that I would want to change the spoiler just because so many new stangs have the ducktail spoiler.

I went ahead and modified a picture of the GT500 show car to see how it looked with the larger SHELBY letters across the middle of the trunk. I put it together fairly quick but I did save my work this time so I can easily modify the lights, light background, trunk border, etc. If anyone wants to see it with larger, smaller, stretched lights, etc. just let me know and Ill post it up. I can also send anyone the Photoshop PSD file if they want to tinker with it.
