GT500 Highway Patrol Cars? Will We See Any ?

Recommended Posts

Im in Texas and over the past month I have seen 2 Mustang GT's Highway Patrol Vehicles.

And Just today i saw a Mustang GT City Patrol Car. So It got me to thinking... with the High

performance of the Shelby GT500.... Does anyone think or has anyone heard of any State or

City's contacting Ford Dealers to try and add the GT500 to their Police Car Stables?

That would be pretty cool to see IMHO. Unless He was following You !!! :shift:

Yeah... MY plate reads GT500HP.... I wonder if I would get a break?

Just maybe they would think that HP stands for highway patrol.

If a GT500 Patrol Car pulled over another GT500... I think they would

be pulling you over just to talk about the CAR... you would probably never

see a ticket coming your way ... LOL

That would be the an awsome idea, and the best for actual pursuits. Since theres a couple gt's I'd love to see pursuit videos! Does anyone have any lol.

If I lived in a state where they bought these for the police, I'd be writing my Congressman...that's OUR tax money they are spending...I think the GT is plenty powerful enough.

JMHO. <_<

Most of them come from drug dealers etc. Although there are two mach-1's running around the orlando area. Alot of times they will get donated like the mauraders as well.

Roger

hmm haven't seen any of those. The only muscle around here that the state uses are the z28 state troopers. But the marauders should be the standard police vehicle... it's perfect for the job.

My Wife Does work as a Police Dispatcher and their city was looking to upgrade their standard patrol cars... i cant remember which one they went with, but they did have an SRT to drive around. I know they chose a smaller cheaper and less powerful car for their standard cars. The Officers I know were VERY Dissappointed about that too.

This spond my curiousity about seeing a GT500 with lights and sirens.

I guessing if somewhere, some police dept had a GT500, that they would make sure that

it WAS NOT speed limited to 155mph. LOL :speedie:

I checked with my dealership, and they have a list of 5 people. They said the first 4 are drug dealers, and I'm 5th.

Terry - is your Camaro that high-revving engine?

If so - do you have any audio clips of it?

I had a friend who had one - and that thing ripped - and sounded...like an engine should sound. :bandance:

Yes, my Camaro has the famous 302 DZ engine. It was only produced for one year, and only available in the Z28. No low-end torque, which explains why I have a 4:11 posi and a Tremec 5-speed Road Race version with a 3.27 first gear. It's a dog under 3500 RPM, but wakes up after that. It get's sideways on my going from 1st to 2nd at 6800 RPM...yikes.

I don't have audio clips, nor do I have the equipment to take such clips. But it does have a sweet sound, mostly because of the cam. The solid lift cam has an extremely long duration (around 323 degrees total, although only 254 degrees @.050), with considerable overlap, .485 lift, and lobe centerline at 114 degrees. This same cam was used in the earlier 327 hi-perf Corvettes. It uses the same valve lash on both intake and exhaust valves, .030/.030...and is therefore referred to as the "30-30" cam.

The funny part is that I initially used a Mallory dual point distributor when I built the car, but I had so much trouble with point bounce at high RPM that I had to switch to a Mallory Unilite...and it works flawlessly.

Here are a few other pics of the car. I put a new set of heads on last year, thus the engine pics where it's partially disassembled. If you look very carefully at the one engine pic from almost straight on...you'll see a familiar component on the left side (facing the car) of the firewall. Yes, it's a Ford starter solenoid. GM had a bad problem with "hot soak" of the solenoid since it was mounted right on the starter, just under the headers. Therefore, I bought a Ford solenoid and remote mounted it. Never had a problem since....it's been 15 years since I added that component. That's +1 for Ford!

I would like to see a pic of a 05-07 Highway patrol car. I havent heard of any in service?

If you can snap a photo and post it that would be cool!

Here in California the CHP is considering the 07 Shelby, but the Chp and FOMOCO are at a brick wall at the moment. Chp wants them at MSRP and Ford wont let them go for less than 15k over MSRP. :hysterical: j/k

Also alot of the normal police departments are looking at chargers for crown vic replacements.

A lot of folks over at Blue Oval forums are so upset that Ford is phasing out the CV/GM/LTC, thought the CVPI has to be around a while longer since there's no Ford rear drive to replace it and they're still selling 70K units /yr.! I've heard they thing the 500 might do ok... NOT! I sure hope Ford is planning SOME v8 rear-drive family car to double as a CVPI replacement. The 500 much work well for livery/taxi, but not for police. The Hemi charger has got to be on the short list for a lot of PDs at this point.

The only reason this one got me was my wife was "helping my stress level" when he started following me. I wasn't able to properly heel-and-toe while she was...helping me. :baby:

Yeah, with those cam specs you'll never get any grunt off of idle. Those specs are meant for high RPM power, not low RPM torque.

With your low rear end ratio and the 5 speed you have a good compromise with where the engine likes to run at.

No police department in their right minds would EVER allow a pursuit to reach such speeds. The pursuit would be called off in the interest of public safety and deferred to an air unit if available.
