BlueOval
This auction ended yesterday: GT500 Auction On EBay Buy It Now! price of $74999. There were 12 bids but the bidding stopped at $59100 and the reserve wasn't met so the auction ended. It looks like this one is from a broker - like many on there. Maybe the dealer sold it out from under him? Just seems like someone would have stepped in and bought it.
jrichard
Why would anyone pay $30k over ("buy it now" price) when you can easily find deals for significantly less than that? Obviously, I don't know what the reserve was... But, it's another data point regarding the depth of the market. Bidding stopped at +/- $15k over MSRP... LONESTARFORDINC
This guy has nine Shelby's locked up with contracts. (Whether or not they will be honored by the dealers once they learn the truth is a valid question) Another question is how will the "broker" avoid not titling the car? It is my understanding that: 1) Brokering is "highly" illegal in Texas 2) Ford has said it will revoke dealers allocation that are caught brokering the Shelby He has already sold a few at $75000 (a piece..rufdraft). We have already sold 3 at 75000 each out of our 5 allocated, also. Not trying to "open old wounds", but the Market Data on eBay is False. We have the same problem with "FordGTPrices.com". There data is based on completed auctions on ebay NOT completed sales. Big difference. When reserve price hasn't been met or no one uses Buy it now, who knows really what the outcome is. I mean, we sell 50-60 ebay cars a month and very few use "buy it now" and virtually nobody meets our reserve. Almost 90% call us and buy it outside of eBay. MSRPSHELBY
Did the cars sell for $75,000 or did someone(could be the seller) place a bid for $75,000. I have bid on older cars on EBAY and everyting is not always what they seem with bidding.
BlueOval
Well, I appreciate you not trying to open old wounds and the good Lord knows that I'd never doubt anything a car salesman told me. :-] This guy has nine Shelby's locked up with contracts. Impact1839 - the Broker - has this one listed now: $60,000 No Reserve GT500 It *appears* to be available for the highest bid over $60,000 with no reserve. Maybe I read it wrong. Maybe he just takes the deposit you send and you never hear from him again? I believe that this is actually a re-listing of one that he had up last week. jrichard
I just scrolled through the completed GT500 auctions on Ebay. For all the hype, its remarkable how many have closed without meeting the reserve...and how few have actually sold. I'm not sure what lonestarfordinc was getting at, but my take away is that the actual selling prices of cars they put on Ebay are typically less than the "buy it now" or reserve prices. Which means Ebay is good for advertising, drawing attention and creating hype, but that the prices listed (and often the prices bid) don't reflect what most buyers are willing to pay. Did I draw the wrong conclusion?

Three Cobras
What I took away from LoneStar is that he SOLD three cars. E-Bay auctions do not necessarily actually SELL the vehicle even if the auction ends with a 'sale'. You are buying the right to buy a car. As far as whether E-Bay is driving up the price of the car, I'm not so sure. I still side with the opinion that after a while these cars will be avialable at MSRP. I also agree with the opinion that that will probably happen by the end of MY 2007. Fron Ford's perspective, the car is still money to them even if they don't sell at MSRP or above. There is no predicting how crazy things really are until the MY 2007 is halfway through. For most folks, their bed is already made by this point I'd wager. Unless you've got a lot of money you'll have to ride things out for a while. I hope everyone can get theirs, but many will have to wait some time. BlueOval
They probably did sell three cars but we'll never know for sure and we certainly won't know the price they actually sold at. Sales prices can be deceptive if financing is involved... front end or back end... as long as they get it, it doesn't really matter. Anyway ya' look at it, right now, there are 0 GT500's available and probably many thousands of people trying to buy one. Price goes pretty high in that situation.... despite the protestations from assorted dealers and brokers, the supply WILL catch up with demand. It MAY take two years... I dunno - but it will catch up. It's like a law or something. I know most of you are well aware of this but don't believe anything a salesman tells you. I'm an engineer (so I deal in facts) but I work with sales on occasion... I have been told directly by said salespeople that "Facts don't sell sh*t. If I had to deal in facts, I'd never sell a g*d-d*mned thing." That is a pretty accurate quote, too. Oh, and I absolutely believe them! It's like "don't believe what you see, believe what I tell you."
jrichard
Since I was scrolling through the eBay auctions, I can't resist linking to this one. It's the funniest I've seen. (Sorry if this has already been posted.) Even if you believe everything the seller writes about production numbers, etc., and the conclusions he draws regarding future value, then you have to wonder what is wrong with him that he's willing to sell for a mere $35k profit today when he can get so much more than that in a month or two when the car arrives. And he's leaving all that money on the table just so he can work on his house. Given his urgency, it sounds more like he needs the money for a quick fix. I hope someone else gets a chuckle out of this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALREADY-ORD...1QQcmdZViewItem
