350steps
I am new to this forum and I would appreciate some help from members familiar with the 2006 GT-H coupe production and configuration. 1) At what Ford plant were the 2006 coupes which were shipped to SAI for the GT-H modifications manufactured? 2) How were these vehicles transported to SAI; rail, enclosed carrier, etc? 3) Upon completion were all vehicles sent to the same location for distribution, for example: New Jersey or Oklahoma? 4) How were the vehicles shipped to Hertz? 5) In photos as well as on one GT-H witnessed it appears the center section of the front lower fascia (in front of radiator) was painted, unlike later SGT production wherein the center section is a matte black textured plastic. I believe these fascias were painted at SAI; did the configurations vary as to painted versus non-painted? 6) On the SAI website in the GT-H photo section there is one photo in which the LeMans stripes are applied to the front lower fascia (like the GT500) ...yet all other photos depict no stripes. Again, was this just a "one-off" exercise or were some GT-H's configured with stripes in this location? 7) Some Gt-H's advertised on E-bay or cars.com show the Sirius radio handset sitting on the console. If you purchase a car from Hertz did you receice this handset or was this a Hertz installed accessory which they might or might not have included with the car? I saw a window sticker for a 2006 GT-H coupe and Sirius was not listed as an option. Has anyone tried getting one of these handsets from Hertz? 8) On one GT-H which I was considering I noticed the bottom edge of the front lower fascia was scrapped (probably over a curb, given the lowering adjustment). Has anyone tried repairing the scuffs /scratches from the plastic by sanding or other means? Thanks for your help......... 350steps
Benzito
Let's see how many I can answer (I'm no expert, by the way, and most of my info probably came from this forum or the shelbyautos forum): I am new to this forum and I would appreciate some help from members familiar with the 2006 GT-H coupe production and configuration. 1) At what Ford plant were the 2006 coupes which were shipped to SAI for the GT-H modifications manufactured? I THINK THEY CAME FROM AAI. ORIGINALLY MANUFACTURED AS GT PREMIUMS, THEN COSMETICALLY AND MECHANICALLY MODIFIED IN LAS VEGAS. 2) How were these vehicles transported to SAI; rail, enclosed carrier, etc? SOMEONE FROM SAI CAN VERIFY, BUT I ASSUME CARRIER TO GET ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THERE ARE PICTURES OF THE CARS ON CARRIERS SHIPPING OUT TO HERTZ. 3) Upon completion were all vehicles sent to the same location for distribution, for example: New Jersey or Oklahoma? 4) How were the vehicles shipped to Hertz? CARRIER (?). YOU MIGHT BE LOOKING AT THE PROTOTYPE, WHICH WAS FEATURED IN MANY OF THE EARLY MAGAZINE ARTICLES. THE PRODUCTION CARS HAVE A HOLE OR GAP IN THE LOWER FASCIA, ALTHOUGH YOU CAN BUY THE LOWER GRILL TO PROTECT THE RADIATOR. SIDE PIECES ARE BLACK PLASTIC SIMILAR TO THE REGULAR MUSTANG GRILL. 6) On the SAI website in the GT-H photo section there is one photo in which the LeMans stripes are applied to the front lower fascia (like the GT500) ...yet all other photos depict no stripes. Again, was this just a "one-off" exercise or were some GT-H's configured with stripes in this location? MAYBE. I'VE ONLY SEEN BLACK LOWER PIECES (LOWER THAN THE GRILL). STRIPES WOULD PROBABLY BE ALL TORN UP THAT LOW ANYWAY. ON THE OTHER FORUM, BEFORE IT SHUT DOWN, SOMEONE NOTED THE HERTZ NUMBER TO GET A REPLACEMENT SIRIUS / AUDIOVOX UNIT. EVEN IF THE SEPARATE CONSOLE UNIT IS REMOVED, YOU SHOULD CHECK TO SEE IF THE SIRIUS BUG AND WIRING IS STILL CONNECTED TO THE RADIO. SIRIUS OR HERTZ ALLEGEDLY GAVE A FREE YEAR'S ADDED SUBSCRIPTION WHEN YOU BOUGHT A GT-H, BUT MINE WAS SHUT OFF. 8) On one GT-H which I was considering I noticed the bottom edge of the front lower fascia was scrapped (probably over a curb, given the lowering adjustment). Has anyone tried repairing the scuffs /scratches from the plastic by sanding or other means? THE CAR SITS 1.5 INCHES LOWER THAN A REGULAR GT, SO THAT'LL HAPPEN IF YOU AREN'T CAREFUL. YOU COULD PROBABLY CAREFULLY SAND OR SMOOTH DOWN THE SCUFFS AND THEN TOUCH UP THE PAINT. IT'S DOWN THERE, SO NOT LIKELY FOR PEOPLE TO BE INSPECTING TOO CLOSELY. nolastyankee
I was successful getting a Sirius radio (from Sirius, no charge) unit after the fact since the GT-H I purchased did not have it. According to the individual I spoke with, Hertz began de-installing the Sirius radios on the first cars out, some dealers pulled them too. The control unit in the GT-H is unique to the GT-H and designed for this car. The '07 SGT's had Sirius from the factory so this was a one-year fix. There were two models of control units - one with the Hertz logo, one without. All the production GT-H's got logo'ed control units, some the Hertz exec cars (and Carroll's car) got the non-logo'ed control unit. According to the Sirius GT-H project manager, Carroll did not want the Hertz logo in his car. I'll post the contact info if anyone wants it. You'll need specific car information, but if you are missing your Sirius unit from your GT-H, they can be procured from Sirius at no charge. Has anyone tried repairing the scuffs /scratches from the plastic by sanding or other means? >> they can be sanded depending on the depth, but fascias are fragile.
