This won't be a problem. When March or April arrives....it will be available.

Lots of good info in here - thanks. I just went out and started it up and did the clutch test. I havean Oct. 06 builddate and about 6500 or so miles. Many hard miles 1/4 mile at a time too. Many easy highway miles as well though. I passed the clutch test with flying colors but I never put it in gear and roled it as snow is still melting but I am watching very close. I almost wish I would get the issue so it wasn't hanging over my head. I hope I just never have a problem but it's a bit scary seeing how many have had the same issues.

I just noticed that the rubber pad on my factory one is not present on my new one. See the rubber pad on the factory one.

Clutch-TrannyReplacementparts038.jpg

It's not on the new one ? I need to go back out to the shop and look at it.

As Fred posted in the KR shifter thread, the rubber bumber on the factory shifter is just used for the automation robot assembly alignment process during the original build and is not needed on the after market KR shifter. Kind of an erection aid, you might call it. :hysterical:

I just got back from putting on 26 miles on my new Transmission and clutch and flywheel. :shift: I have 56 total miles on the set up now. I have not driven the car in 3 weeks, and wow I must tell you it is a pleasure to drive compared to the way it used to be. (BTW it took a matter of 3-4 minutes to take the bubble and car cover off. Very easy task.)

I let the car warm up for 5 minutes in the driveway while I messed around with my new 09 tags and registration & insurance paperwork. As I left the neighborhood I only got into 2nd gear at 25 MPH. No syncro bump felt at all as I entered 2nd gear. It is 45 degrees out.

As I turned onto the county exit road from my neighborhood I got to go from 1st, to 2nd, and then 3rd. No bump, or crunch or grind what so ever. :happy feet: Nothing. Just pure smooth gear engagement. I then went up to the highway which is 3 miles from my house. I went thru all the gears. So nice that I could not help it but smile.

I went down to my local Ford dealership to talk to my service guy to make a appointment to get my FRPP short throw shifter installed. I have a 8am appointment for Friday with my master Tech Dan to get it installed. If it rains, then I am going to have to reschedule, and he understands that and says "no Problem".

As I went back out to the Ford parking lot where I was double parked, there was 7 people gathered around my car looking at it. They all seemed to think it was the neatest car on the lot. I had to agree with them. I got in my car and drove home. Again, I took notice of how smooth the car went into all the gears. I now have a grand total of 3,645 miles on my GT500.

SaaaaWeeeeeet. :)

Very happy your car is all squared away Rob.

I drove my car a little today, the clutch is much better than before...actually than it ever was.

I tested it up to 120, and all is well. :spiteful:

....funny thing is I had the Mini 5 mph faster than I had the Shelby today. :hysterical:

It's gonna suck when I don't have back country roads by my house anymore, as the city grows.

My Senior Master Technician that installed my new FLYWHEEL, CLUTCH, & TRANSMISSION did a great job. My car was in a bay that was next to a roll up door that had a window in it from the outside, so I was able to watch the entire removal and installation. With a escort I was allowed in the service bay a few times to look things over.

My Tech. did the entire job himself except for lifting the transmission and adjusting the exhaust. Now I know why they call him a Master. He has worked there for 12 years. A true professional.

Here are a few tips that I have picked up on.

1.) The front of the motor has to be jacked up to get the proper angle to remove and install the tranny. If you have a carbon Fibre intake, it will need to come off so you don’t damage it, or remove the tower brace.

2.) Make sure you have the right flywheel before you start the job. Mine was for a GT and I had to get a GT500 one overnighter.

3.) After installation, the clutch hydrolics need to be blead off. My tech used a suction machine to get the air out.

4.) The Teflon lube gets applied to both Clutch splines and Tranny input shaft.

REMOVAL of the Transmission

It took 1 hour and 45 minutes for a master tech to get the tranny out. I watched him do it. These are the steps I watched.

1. Remove shifter.

2. Remove my JLT Carbon fibre tube & filter so it would not get damaged during jacking of the motor.

3. Remove front X pipe and Cat's. Temp support rear exhaust and sensor wiring.

4. Remove drive shaft.

5. Remove lower front suspension A arm steel tube brace.

6. Remove tranny X member.

7. Remove tranny.

8. Remove flywheel.

INSTALLATION of the new flywheel, clutch and transmission.

The installation of the new parts took 1 hour and 50 minutes. Then you will be ready for a test drive. These are the steps I watched.

1.) Install Flywheel.

2.) Install Clutch.

3.) Apply Teflon lube to splines

4.) Install Transmission and shifter.

5.) Install Transmission X support.

6.) install lower front A arm tube brace.

7.) Install Driveline.

8.) Install Front Cats and X pipe exhaust.

9.) Adjust rear exhaust tips.

10.) Hook up electrical sensors to transmission and Cats.

11.) Install stick shift handle and boot.

12.) Bleed air out of clutch hydrolics.

13.) Test Drive

By the time you check the car in and then the work is done and you do a test drive and then do the paperwork, it turns out to be a 6 hour job. I have some videos and Pic’s coming up that show some of the work.

Let me tell you that the car shifts like a different car. :shift: No hissing when the clutch is in nuetral and pushed in to the floor. No bumping of the syncros. Smooth shifting and down shifting. Now when I push the clutch in and put it in gear…it goes in right away. I can even down shift into 1st gear at a slow roll from 2nd. It is sweet. To describe the shifting is hard to do in words. It just goes into gear. You feel the click in the gearshift, you do not hear it. Not realy a click, but it feels like the syncros are open and ready to accept the gear. A true pleasure. Yes…a big difference. I also noticed that 4th 5th and 6th are smoother now too. :happy feet:

Edit: Torque Spec for new clutch bolts added and Parts Pic.

torque the clutch bolts to 74 in-lb in a star pattern and then double click to 80 in-lb and NO 90* TURN!!

Did you take it in with any performance modifications done to it? If so what was done to it? Just curious if they gave you any stick and tried to blame the tranny issues on the mods or note. Thanks!

This won't be a problem. When March or April arrives....it will be available.

My dealer was told by a tech from the hotline that Ford is not going the nickel hub clutch route now or in the future .

Can you have your sources look into this.

Thanks,

Bill

I am having problems.

When I start my car a semi loud whining noise can be heard for 10-15 seconds. If I push the clutch pedal in just a 1/8 inch it goes away. Let off on the clutch and it is back. After 10 to 15 seconds....it's gone and all is normal.

I have been starting the car every morning for the last 5 days to see if it does it....and it does. It wont do it again unless I let the car sit at least 5 hours, then it will do it again.

A *friend* of mine told me to have the CSC bearing replaced. I am not sure what that involves. I only have 120 miles on my new clutch.

You couldn't dream this up!

Am I dreaming? :fool:

No...guess not.

Is the CSC bearing the throwout bearing? If so out comes the tranny again :banghead:

Found this in a Tremec document:

"Known for its bulletproof aftermarket transmissions, Tremec is also the OE

manual transmission supplier for the Mustang. Several improvements have

been incorporated into the 5-speed transmissions for the all-new 2005 Mus-

tang including a semi-remote shifter that isolates driveline NVH while im-

proving the ergonomic location of the shifter. The old-style cable and clutch

fork have been replaced by a new hydraulic concentric slave cylinder (CSC), "

Linky

If the CSC is misaligned during transmission installation, it will make excessive noise.

Rick,

Your right on the part. I just found out from Ford what it is. The CSC (concentric slave cylinder) bearing is another name for the hydraulic release bearing which pushes on the clutch diaphragm spring to effect a clutch release. The P/N but it is the very same one used on Mustang GT and V6 Mustang. Mine is going to be ordered today.

May I make a suggestion...go to another dealer who knows how to work on these cars...or you can keep playing the comeback game until they really mess something up and you're out of warranty.

Grabber the CSC comes with the new Trans. (Sounds like a new faulty part.)

I know it does. Thanks.

It's a defective part. As I said it only makes the noise for 12-15 seconds. Then it goes away.

We need to start a 'dealer who knows how to work on these cars' thread, because I took mine to the dealer

5 times for oil changes and stripe repairs

1st time: oil change

Results:

A)changed oil, Oil all over filter, the guy put the lift's stands haphazardly, metal to metal under the car...

B) I bitched a little

3rd time: In for stripe repair

Results:

A) They ordered the wrong stripe

B) I got another oil change instead while I was there with instructions to take care of my car! I'll be watching.

1) Dude left the oil cap on cross threaded.

4rth time: In for stripe repair.

Results:

A) Body guy begins using 'approved plastic screwdriver' to try to pry off f aux gas cap after removing the trunk lid

lock/latch cover to verify no screws as per my request. I told him to f*ing stop I'll do it myself.

1) People moving my car around put light scratches around the door handle

B) I used 2 Teflon spatulas to remove f aux cap at my house

C) They ordered a new one.

Last time: Stripe repair

Results:

A) The stripe guy actually did a good job, does graphics for all the dealers, ford, gm..., in the area.

Grabber the CSC comes with the new Trans. (Sounds like a new faulty part.)

I confirmed that there is no way to damage this part during the install. The CSC collar floats on the input shaft. It is an independent piece. My new CSC bearing will be in sometime tomorrow. Monday the master Tech will do the work.

I was wondering about your transmission's production date, I know I don't like working Holidays. Probably has nothing to do with it.

I took my car to the dealership yesterday and now have a new flywheel, clutch assembly and transmission coming. My mechanic told me that we are best to address this problem now rather than waiting because now they replace your transmission - later they will be re-building your old one. His quote was "you don't want me rebuilding your old transmission, you're better off with a new one".

owen what were your symptoms?

I had a little bit of grinding from 1st to 2nd, nothng too bad, but my 12 month warranty is up today. I was concerned that if I had just a clutch problem, like I read about another guy on this website having, that it would not be covered under warranty once my 12mo/12,000 mile warranty was up. I took it to the dealership, they got on the Ford Hotline and the next thing I knew they were ordering a bunch of new parts. They said my input shaft had abnormal wear because of corrosion and not being lubed at the factory. They also said that the input shaft was not hardened enough and that was, I guess, part of the problem. On the bright side, it would have been covered under powertrain warranty had I let it go past the 12 month date, but like I was told, the transmission would have been rebuilt rather than replaced if I had let it go until later. On the other hand, I would have still had the orginal transmission that came in the car from the factory had I waited, but I think as long as it's a factory replacement part it won't make much difference down the road if these cars do become collectible in the future. My car had 4722 miles on it.
