KR at Barrett-Jackson

Went to the auction today and walked around back of the tent near the drift area. Saw a Black KR there. Talked to a nice guy from Shelby who said it was the first car off the line and was given to Carroll by Ford. Car had carbon fiber hood which he said was the most expensive part on the car and 18" forged wheels. He says they went with the 18" wheels because they did not have the room for body movement on the track with the 20's. Rear spoiler was different than standard 500 and it also had the carbon fiber front splitter. Rear view side mirrors also had a carbon fiber look on the top half. Other than that stuff and brake cooling ducts in the front lower grille, it looked pretty similar. To hear him talk, dealers are not really getting the huge prices everyone thinks and it ought to be easy to get one???? :banghead:

The car in the back did not have a glass roof. They are not auctioning it. There was another black KR in the main tent. I don't think it had a glass roof either but I am not sure. The only thing I know for sure that was different on the two cars was the wheel centers. The one outside had centers that said SVT and the one in the tent had centers that said KR.

Does anybody know when it is scheduled to go on the block? I want to see Mr. Pratte spend $1.1 million.

But that is chump change for Mr. Pratte after watching him drop $5 million on the supersnake plus a bunch of other cars that day. He even raised his own $500K bid to $600K for the Shelby! :hysterical:

Seems to me I remember it being lot number 1300. If that number is correct, I would expect to see it go on Saturday afternoon. That is pretty much primetime so I would assume that is when they would like it to go. I set my dvr to record all the coverage as you can be sure it will go when Speed is broadcasting the event.

from SAI on 11/30/07,

The King will be offered in 3 color combinations: Vapor with Blue Stripes, Vista Blue with Silver Stripes and Black with Black stripes

Did they add Torch Red?

Apparently so. Someone posted a copy of a Ford document that I downloaded. It has all of the order codes for the KR (but no prices, of course). According to this document:

BASE ORDER - Ford Content at Mustang Plant

*Body Code GT500 Coupe (T88)

*Array: (820A)

*Transmission Manual (44E)

*Exterior Color: Vapor Silver Metallic (ZY), Ebony Black (UA), Vista Blue Metallic (G9), or Torch Red (D3).

*Interior: Dark Charcoal (GW) - So, I guess no crimson insert option

*SIRIUS Satellite Radio System (50S) NOW STANDARD - Ford emphasis, not mine

REQUIRED OPTIONS:

*Shelby Upfitter Package (54K) - This breaks down to stripe delete, rear spoiler delete, floor mat delete, front chin spoiler/splitter delete, 3.31 axle delete, and substitute "S-197 8.8 Bullitt 3.73 axle."

*Ambient Lighting (95M)

*HID Headlamps (51H)

*GT500 Premium Interior Trim (68S)

EXCLUSIONS

*Car Cover (971)

So, it appears that the only real options you can even order are your choice of the Shaker 1000 or the DVD Nav. What I don't know is what color stripes will be offered on the Red car. I hope black will be an option, that would look absolutely BAD A**. But, I wouldn't be surprised to see them make it silver...

Ron Pratt's one and only glass back KR will be auctioned this Saturday sometime between 4:30PM and 8:30PM. The glassback car is black with black stripes, and the top stripes are actually etched into the glass.

I'm flying out to Scottsdale tomorrow (Friday) morning, and the car that I'm wrangling over the block Saturday evening is apparantly parked right in front of the KR. I'll see if I can snap a picture or two of it and get it posted up by tomorrow afternoon/evening.

So that would make it between 3:30 - 7:30 central time.

I need to take off early Sat.

Yes, by all means, please do. Tell your boss that you have an appointment with a King, and go home and have a beer or two in front of the big boob and relax! Keep an eye out for the Presidential Limo, and I'll wave to everyone! We definately have a grand entrance planned!

Do you plan to bid on anything while you are there?

I want that Batmobile!!! I think that would be cool to cruise around town in! Especially with hitting the flame thrower! :hysterical:

I agree having the Batmobile would fulfill a childhood fantasy, but given the opportunity, I think that I would rather have the latest incarnation of the Batmobile, which is the badass tank car that made it's debut in BATMAN RETURNS. I like the line that Dt. Gordon (he's not a Comissioner yet) says after BM drives through and over his already smashed-to-bits Police car... "Man, I gotta get me one of those"... I agree Gordo, I totally agree.

But to answer your question SD, although there are some very nice cars going over the block this week, I'm not bidding on anything mainly because I'm waiting for Elvis right now.

But I would still like to cruise in this one! I would even wear the suit! :hysterical2:

You know It's funny; I've seen that car (or one of it's clones, George Barris made a few of them) many times at local car shows around L.A. for several years, but this is the very first time that I have ever seen it's engine compartment.

Many people think that the car is based on a GM product and are quite suprised when they find out it's a Ford (Lincoln).

But not as suprised as seeing you in a pair of body hugging grey tights and a cape! :superhero: If you promise not to wear the costume, I promise to start a "BUY SHELBYDUDE A BATMOBILE" fund raser for you. :hysterical:
