Almost ready to give up the search . . . .

Sadly, I am nearing the end of my efforts to secure an '07 SGT. So as to avoid being too verbose, I will summarize my quest with the following categories of experiences:

1. Dealers who are still trying to get top dollar for their leftover SGT, which prices much higher than what folks on this site report having paid. (One guy wants $37k for his USED SGT.)

2. Dealers who are seeking very fair prices, but who refuse to pay anywhere close to market trade-in value for my '05 Corvette convertible and '00 Mustang GT.

I will still make a few calls, but it is looking more and more like I'll just hang on to the 'vette and consider a leftover '08 in a year or so, or possibly wait for the Challenger prices to come down.

What do you consider market trade in value? How are you arriving at those values?

What are the details on your trades? Maybe I could help.

I used lots of internet research to determine a fair trade value on my cars. The guy with the used SGT (380 miles) has agreed to my asking price of $40k for the '05 Corvette and $6k for the '00 Mustang GT. Others are offering no more than $36k and $4k, respectively.

After I sent this dealer various links showing what others are asking for their new SGTs on ebay and other resources, he now seems like he is going to drop his price. I am starting to think that a deal will get done after all [fingers crossed].

Don't give up!!! I probably spent 3-4 months looking almost daily on the computer. Then one day a little over a week ago, I came home and found the right car at the right price in the right location. If you're willing to mess around doing it, why not sell your trade-ins yourself. It's a big pia, and you never get what you think you should, but you always get way more htan what the dealers want to give.

40K is awful strong trade in on an 05 Vette,Considering you can get a new one,1LT base 6 speed for 45K,if yours is a ZO6,I say no dice,If it is anything else,They are definately giving you too much! Not trying to hurt your feelings,It's just simple math!So I say give em the Vette,Sell the Mustang yourself,And go for it!BTW I have owned and sold a lot of cars so I speak from experience.Traded an 07 Vette on my 07 Shelby GT.With the market like it is and as many 07 Shelby GTs that are still on lots in my area,I think they are desperate for a sale.

The '05 Vette is a loaded convertible with 4000 miles on it. It stickered for over $62k, though I paid $10k less than that. I figure that $40k is a fair trade for it.

Like anything else, a car is only worth what someone is willing to buy it for. You may be right and $40K is a far price to sell it for but are you thinking the dealer can get $45K?

You say it is loaded so I assume it has navigation, power top and polished aluminum wheels. Then $40K seems right in line for trade in value

Just keep working on it, I wanted to trade my 99 BMW Z3 and thought that if I could get 15k for it that would be a good deal. The dealer ended up giving me 18k for it on trade so I did better than I though I would. Turns out he wanted the car for his wife, and wanted to move the SGT, so everybody's happy! Just keep working on it.

Check out texasdirectautos on ebay. I got mine through them for a damn good price with less than 500 miles on it. They also had a White one with a spoiler last time I browsed their auctions for around 34. I was almost going to buy that one but I don't really care for the spoiler personally.

You can get a new one a lot cheaper than that, I was looking at them. You can get them for $39,998 and that is the 2008 which is a lot more car than the 2005. That being said, I am happy with my Shelby GT and glad I did not go with the Vette at this point.

Did you try to sell it yourself?? What about the Vette forums?? I just traded in my BMW M3 Vert on my Shelby GT and got raped. The fact that I live in New England, it being a Vert, and the low miles killed me. It sucks because they give almost nothing extra for low miles and they do not even want all the immaculate records I keep in a binder for each of my cars. That said, I know they did not make much on the Shelby and when you weigh in the tax savings and the hassle of selling myself I said F-it. I could not wait, I wanted the 0% financing. That alone will save me 5k over the life of the loan calculating a 5.9% rate instead of 0%.

$10,500 for this and it had 72k miles. Original sticker was $54k. I had every record since new and have owned it since 16k miles.

Is what it is, someone is going to buying a sweet M3 from the auction, I do not have the time to sell a car. It is a Royal Pain in the A$$.

With the auto industry,Sales and manufacturing in a slump,Economy not so good.40K seemed a bit high for an 05,That being said if that's what they offer you and you really want the Shelby GT,Go for it.Regardless of all the options on your car,The market in my area will not hold that kind of money, maybe you are in a better economic climate.I will say that trade in on an SGT is extremely weak so you better make sure that's what you want. They are truly great cars,But that is my OPINION.With the Bullitts already on the showroom floor,And posting some pretty damn good track times,Prices on the SGT may fall further,Or they will just show more for your trade,Play the game till it works for you!Remember that you paid 10K under sticker,Do you really think that 3-4 years later they are only going to depreciate 12K.Think about it.

Well, yes.

Though the papers have not yet been signed, I have agreed to pay $35k for the SGT. The dealer is giving me $40k for the '05 Corvette vert and $6k for the '00 Mustang GT.

I told them that they need to do the hoodscoop fix and put on the Shelby hood pins, and once that is done, I will show up with my cars to sign the papers. Hopefully, it won't take them long.

dont give up...if the news from amy is too be believed (i have no doubt)...concerning the potential gt350 be glad you did not chunk down hard earned cash on the shelby gt...i like the shelby gt a-lot..but had no idea in hell why ford and shelby did not insist on the gt350 from the start...makes no sense why they went that route then again i can believe it due to the stupidity of ford marketing as of late...if you do purchase a shelby gt expect resale/trade-in to tank as soon as the gt350 is available..be glad you ad trouble finding an 07..may have saved you a ton of cash

I am not too worried about resale. The SGT will be my daily driver, just as the '00 Mustang GT was for seven years. I'll put over 100,000 miles on it, depreciate it down to nothing and then trade it in for a 2013 model of the Mustang, Challenger, whatever.

Like I've previously posted,The Shelby GT is a GREAT CAR!Now that being said it is not without it's goood and bad qualities.I prefer to concentrate on the good! The ride is a little firm for a daily driver,If you are a wimp!I drove mine daily,Weather permitting,And found it to my liking! They will change lanes quickly with no body rolll at 60+MPH.The shifter works like a dream compared to a stock mustang,Exhaust note is pretty good.More power than most people can really use.Alot have complained,Sure it could always be faster but you did want a warranty,Right?Had 07 Vette,Plenty quick, better stereo even though it was a base model Vette,But I really loved my Shelby GT!No regrets about going from Vette to Shelby GT at all,Much different cars.I don't think you will have any regrets either!I'm still thinking that you can get a better deal selling your Mustang GT yourself.Tax time is here and the price that they will give you would only save you about $600 in my state towards your taxes.I really think you could get more for your Mustang,But if you are happy with it,Let her rip and be happier!

After talking to you today, I put 2 and 2 together and I am glad you are not giving up on the SGT. It you have any questions please feel free to get a hold of me. It will be cool to have a black and white SGT in the car club. Let me know when you get it so I can check it out.

I enjoyed meeting you as well. After yesterday's car club meeting, I heard from my salesman. He said that he new hood scoop and hood pins should arrive from Shelby by mid-week, and they hope to have the SGT ready for me to pick up on Friday or Saturday.

There is a a White and Silver one in Lafayette IN at Mike Raisor Ford, and there is a black and and silver one in Terre Haute IN. The one in Lafayette can be bought for sticker if not less. Call and ask for Ed Piescht he is a total car guy. I got a Shelby GT and a GT 500 off of him in 2007 and have bought a lot of other cars from him. The one in Terre Haute I just know they have one and have had it for a while. I know it is a drive but if you want one bad enough. You could always drive it home that would be a lot of fun(you can try to beet 154 mph my best top speed in a stock SGT).

Hope you find one soon,

ShelbyGT/GT500
