After a two year wait, I am finally the proud owner of a Vista Blue with White stripe GT500 coupe. I placed my name on the dealer's waiting list 5 days after the car was debuted at the New York Auto show, and it arrived at the dealer on 12/12/07. My salesman grabbed a camera and got me some pictures of it on the car carrier. I told him to unload the car, move it to the side, and don't let anyone touch it!!! I visited the car the next day and looked it over. Even dirty from the rail car, the car looked great. I documented everything with photographs, and asked them to keep all plastic 'wrappers', especially those with stickers and build information on them. For safety reasons (?) they would not let me be present during PDI, even if I offered to sign a waiver. I did get a copy of the PDI paperwork for my records.

The weather during this time was rain/sleet, so I was wondering just how long the car was going to have to sit at the dealer before I could drive it home. Luckily, the next day was beautiful and sunny. As my wife drove to the dealer, I got more and more anxious with each passing mile. I went over my check list in my head because I knew as soon as I saw the car again, all the questions I had for my salesman would be forgotten. It seemed to take forever to get to the dealership. Once there, we had to fill out all the forms and paperwork (not to mention pay for it), which again seemed to take an eternity. Finally the salesman put the keys in my hand, told me they had just finished the detailing, and brought the car out front. My family and I walked out to look at the car. I tried to focus and give it a good 'once over' as I knew if I missed anything and it didn't get on the 'we owe' list, I would have to fight for it later. I was about 33 degrees, and after fifteen minutes, the wife and kids left me in search of some warmth. While in the parking lot two separate people came over to look at the car and ask me if it was mine, and admire the car.

When it was time to drive it home, I got in, took a deep breath, and started it up for the first time. My hands were shaking as I slid the shifter into first gear. I pulled out of the parking space slowly, and headed for the exit of the dealership. The dealership is on a fairly busy road so I waited for a large break in the traffic, not wanted to do something stupid in the first 100' of driving the car. As I sat there I started to hear a strange sound, and wondered if something was wrong with the car. After a slight panic, I realized it was my breathing! I was so excited I was almost hyperventilating!

I drove home more defensively and cautiously than I have driven in a long time, although my wife later told me I was over the speed limit most of the way (opps!). She also told me a silver 427 cobra passed me going the other direction. Even though it was barely above freezing, his top was down and my wife could see him checking out the GT500 as we passed. I was so involved in enjoying my first drive, I didn't even see him.

I have only had the car out twice more, once on Christmas Eve for the family’s first ride, and once on Christmas day with my brother and son for a short ride and a few pictures.

So far there are 53 miles on the car, and I hope to have many, many more to come!

OK You have 53 miles...............When are you starting the mods?! :headspin: :happy feet: :dreamy:

Mod #1 will be to order my signed Shelby dash plaque. Didn't want to order it early as I thought it might jinx something.

Has anyone figured out how many RWH the plaque adds??

Welcome Great story I`am sure this happened to many of us, I stalled mine leaving the dealership but recovered in a hurry.

Shelby 001, you and Snake-Bit obviously have excellent taste in color combinations.

I also considered white with blue stripes, blue with tungsten, and wished they had done a Ledgend Lime version.

I am very happy with the combination I chose. The blue is very deep, and looks great in the sunlight....No regrets!

great story, brings back memories for me as well, beautiful car, good luck, nice looking garage,is it new?

The interior was painted about 1-1/2 years ago, but floor is new. I researched epoxy coatings and was going to do it myself, but was very concerned about 'hot tire pick-up'. I ended up have the entire floor ground down to expose raw concrete, then a three step epoxy applied. It soaked into the exposed floor and it will not lift. It cleans up nicely too (thanks for noticing). The only bad part was that the epoxy is commercial grade (made for airplane hangers and car dealerships) and when it is curing its releases fumes that STINK! It had us considering trying to find somewhere else to sleep for a few days.

Why don't you just send me the poster? :happy feet:

The red & white poster is in the garage...the blue & white one hangs over our mantel! :happy feet:

Congrats Z-man :happy feet: Nice story. Reminds me of my first drive when you mention driving defensively. I was intimidated at first and did not want to do anything stupid. Getting used to the car after a couple of times behind the wheel, I realised what a great car the GT500 is.

Enjoy and have a happy new year!
