General maintenance

Wondering about general maintenance on our cars. For instance, coolant, thermostat, trans fluid, rear fluid, brake fluid.......

I'm so used to driving "older" cars and kept up with maintenance which prolonged the life of the car. I would do a thermostat change/coolant flush every year and change out the other fluids every couple years or so. What maintenance schedule should we follow with the GT-500?

Not trying to be rude but it is all in your owners manual. But sum people like to change things a little sooner. Not going to hurt anything to have fresh fluids in at all times.

Hey, you're not rude at all. My owners manual is still in the wrapper and it'll probably remain like that as long as i own the car.

I know what you mean. I was going to do the samething until I went to instal/upload my tune from my xcal2. xcal2 said to remove some fuses so I had to open the manual to get the chart for the fuse boxes. Then come to find out, you don't need to remove any fuses! :banghead::censored::banghead:

SHEESH !

Guys, guys, guys. :finger:

It's a freaking car. :censored:

Breakdown and use your owners manual.

Open it.

Read it.

Store it in the car in case you need it some day.

Grabber, you're correct but sometimes it's the silly small stuff that adds value. My buddy went nuts trying to get an original tool bag and manual for his Porsche.

I may go down to the dealership to see if they have an extra one, perhaps try eBay.....or simply borrow yours ! ;)

+1. all kidding aside, the small number of guys who think this car will be worth 10's of K someday have created an epidemic! Drive it, use it, just take care of it and keep all the parts. Meanwhile enjoy it and stop driving yourselves nuts worrying about any assumed value!

I forgot to mention that I only had 300 miles on the car when I installed the evo stage II (hence the xcal2 upload) I was still not sure how much I want to use the car...... Now I Drive It like I stole it!

I try to not drive in crappy weather because I don't like cleaning it. I can find better things to do with my time then wipe down a car all day long. :happy feet:

Fia,

I'm not trying to be rude either, but I recommend you buy a second manual from Ford. There are a zillion pieces of info in that manual that will prevent you from asking many questions here that have been :beatdeadhorse: Read it front to back, then read it a second time.

Regards,

Dave

Hey there,

If you want to leave your owners manual wrapped, you MIGHT try Helm for a second set (www.HelmInc.com). They sell owners manuals (and portfolios). If they dont have it on the web site, you MIGHT want to try to give them a call to see if/when they may have it available.

Hope this helps some

I think I read pdf manual about 10 times before I got my car. Then I read the real manual as soon as I got home with the car. I couldn't get enough of any information I could find on the car. Read, read, read ...

Here's a link where you can obtain the Owner's Manual in PDF format:

http://www.ford.com/owner-services/vehicle...cInfoButton.y=7

You'll need the Shelby GT500 supplement & Owner's Guide for most the information on our cars. There's other stuff available as well. This is for the 2007 model.

If you have a 2008, you'll probably want to get the latest printings from here:

I'm not sure I understand this. You buy a high performance supercharged car and don't open the owners manual because you believe the car will be worth more in the future with an unread owners manual. Oh now I understand! :hysterical2:

Here's a somewhat related question... Many GT500 owners are keeping their cars in storage and/or not using them as everyday drivers. What type of maintenance should those people be looking at for when they do drive the cars. For instance, factory recommended maintenance is every 3000 miles, but if I don't put 3000 miles on my car in a YEAR does that mean I don't worry about changing the oil for a year? How often should the car be driven, at a minimum. 15 miles a week? 15 miles a month? What dangers come from leaving the car parked for too long (besides the battery dying and tire pressure)? Things like this could be of interest...:)

I w.ould change the oil and filter every year even if you drive very few miles. Also,if you are not driving on a regular basis, you should be adding some sort of addittive to your fuel to make sure it does not go bad on you.

You should always change your oil at least once a year regardless of milage.

You should inflate your tires to 50-60 lbs while in storage to prvent flat spotting

You should add the proper amount of gas stabilizer to the fuel tank if the car is going to be stored for more than a month or so.

If you live in a rural ares where there is a rodent problem ,place some steel wool in the exhaust pipes to prevent rodents from having intercourse with your tail pipes.

In extremely damp conditions place some moisture absorbant inside the car

Pray for spring! :dreamy:

Where did you get this information on flat spotting?

I worked in a brake/front end shop for 8 years. I never once saw a tire that was flat spotted from sitting. I have 4 tires in my garage right now that came off my '69 Camaro that are not flat spotted....and they were installed on that car in 1984 and sat on a garage floor for 6 months out of every year. I hear this all the time and yet I cannot find one documented case of flat spotted tires...I really wish people would quit with this mythology.

It's ok Davey.

Step off the balcony.

Take the round out of the chamber and put the sniper rifle back into the case.

We'll take care of it for you.

Here, drink some diet lemonaid... you'll feel better.
