Little help please. What can we do in Las Vegas.

I talked to Cynthia Robinson last week; she said the SS upgrade would take about 2 weeks. (I got confused with the 40th package that takes 1 week) :banghead:

My wife can only take one week off. :banghead:

I will either drive it up and fly back, then trailer it home or I will have it shipped up and trailer it or drive it home.

The only time I was in Vegas was for work only. I want to turn picking up my car into a vacation, So I am looking for things my wife and I to do while there, so far I have

1 day at Front Sight, :happy feet:

1 day at Hoover Dam

1 day at he Casino's.

1 day to pick up the car and tour the facility, then head home. :happy feet: :happy feet:

Anyone know of any other sites or tourist "must do" we can do while there?

Thanks

it won't take the whole day to tour the facility. try planning on driving out to the valley of fire since you'll be out that way. it's really quite spectacular.

maybe spend some time downtown on fremont street. make sure you go to the bellagio. we also have lots of roller coasters. you can also drive up to the lodge at mount charleston and have a nice lunch/dinner. we got snow last week.

Jim, it's been about 8 years since I've been there, but I really enjoyed the shows. These included (at the time I was there) Lance Burton - Master Magician ...a great magic show with some comedy...even good for kids and Cirque du Soleil...a group that travels and does many different shows...the one we saw was called Mystere. It's an acrobatics/dance type of show, and I was really impressed by it. Tickets were about $55 for magic show, and about $70 for Cirque...but that was 8 years ago.

There's also the show in front of the one casino with the old pirate ship in the small lake...very worthwhile seeing. I can't recall the name of the casino. It's an outdoor event, I think it's free...just walk up and find a place to stand and watch! It's essentially a recreation of an old pirate battle with simulated cannon shots, etc.

One other thing is the laser light show downtown...not on the strip. I think it's every night, not sure.

Have fun.

the casino with the pirate show is Treasure Island. my wife and i were out there 2 months ago. we really enjoyed the Forum shops(really big mall). we also went to the Titanic exhibitand the Bodies exihbit. i will look them up and see want casiono they were at. it took about 3 hours to do both of the exhibits, but they were pretty cool. you can spend most of the day at the Forum shops at Ceasers Palace.

if you like Star Trek the Hilton has a pretty cool ride or two there. called the Star Trek exprience. dont forget to spend some time walking the strip just going into each casino and looking around. even if you DONT gamble the casinos are awesome!!!!!!

Car stuff: Check out the car collection at the Imperial Palace hotel/casino. They picked up several cars from the now closed Harrah's collection.

Treasure Island is now known as ti. The old Pirates vs British show has been changed. It is now a ship of scantilly clad women, "sirens" on the former pirate ship that lure the Pirates (on the former British ship) out. Bad dialogue and choreography ensue. This is in no way family friendly anymore.

Direct link to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority site. They have tons of information and can send you all sorts of stuff.

I'm in Vegas almost every year and will answer whatever I can.

Definately. Unless they made major changes since last time I saw it, it is a total disaster.

MGM is re-branding all the former MIrage resorts properties.

They are currently de-Egypting the big black pyramid known as Luxor to make it hip and trendy.

They are going to try and remove every hint of Egypt from,

let me say it again, the big black pyramid. They already did that to Treasure Island. Hence the name change and show change.

I go several times a year, usually work related, but I do get some free time. I do not gamble (funny being Vegas) but there is lots to do in Vegas. Depending if you want so spend money or not (Sure you may want to save after the car mods) but you can do many free or fairly inexpensive things. I like to people watch, so just walking up and down the strip is a hoot. Each casino is worth walking into, and each is an adventure in itself. You can spend a couple days, just walking in and seeing what each has to offer, and it is free. Then many have great shopping areas (I like Caesars) as well there is a great bar (loud but cool) near Harrah's. Really you can kill a few or several days, spend little money, and never get bored. Then there are dozens of great shows, some of which are easy to get in to and inexpensive as well. At any rate, I am sure you have enough suggestions, so go and enjoy! BTW, go online, tons of free info on things to do in Vegas. Print and go!

If you like wine, you could visit Nevada's only winery in Pahrump. Very good wine and an excellent restauraunt. Take Blue Diamond exit, go west 60-miles to Pahrump. Nice drive up through the mountains.

I would also highly recommend swinging by Caesar's Palace and checking out Exotic Cars (http://www.ecacp.com/). They sell a ton of exotic car merchandise as well as some very fine cars, both old and new, as posted on their website. The entrance fee to their showroom is around $5 if memory serves but it is well worth the money!

Also, while you're over a Caesar's stop in at my favorite Steakhouse, the Palm Restaurant. As reservations are usually recommended, here's the restaurant's contact info.

3500 Las Vegas Blvd S Ste A7

Las Vegas, NV 89109-8904

Phone: (702) 732-7256

If the Palm doesn't work out, stop by the Cheesecake Factory near Exotic Cars in Caesar's instead.

Enjoy your trip!

Great Idea's!!

Thanks to everyone for you’re inputs.

And the winners are:

:happy feet: A day at front sight not debatable - Yes - Wife and I both want have some fun there

Valley of fire, it's really quite spectacular. Yes

A Tour, A show, and or concert - Yes :happy feet:

:censored: Boating -no we have a boat my wife tried to kill me last time (1st) time she tried to tow me, then she stated the boat when I was still in the water next to the prop trying to get on board.

If you are all wondering why I even mention this, it is because I had been stricken with puppy love like illness ever since my dealer got the black on black no strip convertible gt500 that now sit in my garage. Any way after the wife pulled my arms out which took a day and a ton of advil to get my arm use back, she tried to chop up my legs. :censored:

So on the way home I stopped at my dealer and laid a guilt trip on her and weeks later I had my car.

No nO NO water! Next time she might succeed.

:redcard: Treasure Island - Pirates vs British. A ship of scantily clad women –I say Yes – who cares about Bad dialogue and choreography WIFE says No… we’ll see!

:hysterical: Ha- SLB8SNK, nice car, now can I have my car back. Sorry, mines still in my garage.

:happy feet: Imperial Palace hotel/casino They picked up several cars from the now closed Harrah's collection and Caesar's Palace and checking out Exotic Cars and Steakhouse – Yes - wife and I both like collector cars and thick juicy steaks!

:banghead: Gambling – NO. Gambling is like cheep beer in one end out another with no control. Not much of a gambler worked to hard to throw away my money, rather have a good ale with a thick steak.

:redcard: Hoover dam, still a maybe if we run out of things to do.

CHEESE CAKE - NO my one weakness I can eat cheese cake like some gamble.

:happy feet: Walk around downtown on Fremont Street. Make sure you go to the Bellagio –yes

:happy feet: Titanic http://www.tropicanalv.com/ent_titanic.asp -Yes the wife love that kind of stuff

Convention and Visitors Authority site – if we run out of things to do…

If you go to a show the Best in my opinion is "O" I saw this while we were there begining of Nov. for SEMA and I promise you won't be disappointed. It's a Cirque du Soleil show and it is Fabulous. IMO

One more for you:

If you don't have a problem dropping some moderate cash of a wonderful meal, and you would like to eat one of the best steaks you will ever have, then I recommend making reservations at CRAFTSTEAK located in the MGM.

Craftsteak is owned by Chef Tom Coliccio, and if that name sounds familar to you, he is one of the judges on Bravo TV's TOP CHEF reality competition show. And if you have seen that show, you know that Tom is a stickler (ball buster is more accurate) for detail and I can tell you that after eating at Craftsteak, Chef Tom's staff definately practices what he preaches. My dining experience there was incredible. From the service to the quality of the dishes, everything was perfect, and I mean perfect.

And although the menu changes daily, if you are lucky enough to eat there when they have the baby artichoke appetizer, you absolutely must make a point to order it.

Cheers!

Hmm well I would suggest going to "Beckers" on the West side of town. Has some of the best food and service in Vegas, it's a very upscale restraunt, no one wonder 18 allowed. If you need directions just pm and I can help you out, it's also a nice break from downtown and the strip.

Hi guys

I am visiting Las Vegas this April. I planned to visit the Shelby Museum. What can I see additionally ther? Anniversary Shelbys? Shelby Performace Parts have their warehouse there. No way to buy something (as it is written on their page "not for walk-ins"). What I have to expect?

I was just there in December and the best thing i can say is if you want to meet any of the shelby personnel make sure you go announced. I had spoken to Adrienne before she left and was told that i could be shown around since i had already put down my deposit, but then when she left then my plans were not known to anyone else on the shelby team. (No fault of theirs) But then i called a day before and talked to someone and because my plane got in after the tour he told me that i could see the showroom and nothing else. He did come out and shake my hand but i was thoroughly disappointed with the experience. I guess i was just hoping for more being that I will probably never make it out there again and I was investing 30G in the company. I felt misinterpreted and not serious (Im only 23). I had hoped for more and I want you to be treated better than I was so make sure you tell people you are coming.

LIKE TO GO FAST?? At L.V. Speedway you can do the "Richard Petty" experience for around $400. Wife and I did it a couple of years ago for her birthday. You get to drive a Petty NASCAR 8 laps around L.V. Speedway. They are 625 h.p. real Nascars and they will let you drive them following a lead car. They will only let you get up to about 140 mph but it is WELL worth the experience. They were doing it friday and sat. nights. Right now this time of year, it's cold out there, so if you decide to do this, dress warm. You will climb into your car wearing a full fire suit and helmet they provide, totally strapped in including your helmet. Do it, you'll love it.

Azbud,

Sounds like fun, I'd like to give it a shot a chance like that doesn't come around often.

I'd like to see my wife drive one.

The other day I took here to the store, the first thing she said when she got in (with a stren face) Don't go driven a mad man.

So the first thing I did was hamemr it...... spun the tires down the road till she started swerving then let off a bit so she grabbed then hammered it again. the front end lifted and we flew down the road abit. when I stopped she looked me and well what she said wasn't as important as the chit eaten grin she had on her face while she was saying it.

I think she starting to understand what have one of these cars is all about.

Ya baby.

There is alot to do there.

Thanks for the suggestion...

Gotta tell ya Jim, my wife is a real speed nut. Got to watch her when I let her drive the GT500. In L.V. we were in the 5 p.m. group for the Petty Experience. 29 people did it in our group. Each one of us donned a racing suit and went to the orientation, which they talk about what to expect and how to drive the course. Then they take us in 5 groups in van's around the course and talk about where to enter, exit, where to drive on the track, where to brake and accelerate. Wife was about 10th to go in the line up, and I was next to last. Whole thing took about 4 hours. When Wife got on the track, she had a real good pace driver leading her. They have the whole thing set up to calculate lap speeds etc. When she was on the track the pace car driver took her up to 141 mph "average track speed" which was faster than he was suppose to with a top speed on the straight about 170. She was drafting him at that speed. My turn, another pace car driver, only let me get up to max 135 on the straight which made my average track speed far below the Wife's. Cannot pass the pace driver or they will take you off the track, so it all depends on who you get as a Petty Driver to follow. Wife had the fastest time out of the 29 people in our class, got a special award plaque. Really put all the guys to shame ha, ha. As I say, she has a lead foot and very quick reactions. Took the Shelby from our home in Fort Mohave AZ. last summer to Grand Canyon just for the day. I drove there and pretty much drove about 80. On the return trip I let her drive from Williams back to Kingman, about 70 miles. I dozed off to sleep, but I had a GPS set for the trip. According to the GPS unit her average speed in that 70 mile trip was 90 mph. Like I say, lead foot.

Hope you decide on the Petty thing, you won't be dissapointed. Very professional, very courtious and polite people that work there that do all they can to make it a fun and safe thing. If you do decide, please post again and tell us about it.
