I still cant believe that ford let this car out like this. I think that stock this car rides like shit. That is unless you like feeling the rear shifting while you drive down the road and you like feeling like your in a boat as well. Dont get me wrong the build quality is much better. There is a lot of stock power and I cant even imagine as much as a stage 2 setup but lets be for real the way this car comes from ford, not the way I have to make if for 6 grand after I buy it is a poor example of their flagship muscle car. I knew I was gonna miss my o3 term coupe the day i drove this out of the show room. I read this forum alot. Not much for posting, but I truly do hope that the uca and lca's along with a suspension up grade and pan hard bar change this ride. I have 3900 miles on her and this is another love hate relationship. I mean Lets try not to fry my tires and bounce this thing all over the road. Just awesome. Truthfully If its not right after this suspension is done hello germany. I know I can say M3. Sorry but I really need to rant and would not mind some feedback.

If you think this one is bad, you should've tried the old school! You got religion really fast in those bad boys! You need to think, less power, more torque, worse handling, crappy clutch, sloppy shifter, leaf springs, all topped off with really really bad brakes trying to stop a 600 pound engine block.

I won't even start with the AM radio and the seat belts.

Mustang is the car "designed to be designed by you." The <$50k stock GT500 is an awesome basic platform. Start designing...

99% of the time people don't need the upper control arm upgrade. The issue(s) seem to be, in no particular order:

Junk tires. Turn to stone under 50 degrees f.

"Improved" durometer (read: neoprene) bushings on the lower control arms. Junk.

Driveline that, while "within specs", seems to be out of whack at varying degrees. Gets much worse when using lowering kits/springs.

Here's what's worked for me:

BMR lower control arms from Evolution Performance (there have been reports of bushing failures on these, but mine are ok as of today and I've had them on for well over a year).

I no longer have the BMR upper control arm on the car. Too noisy.

The adjustable panhard allowed me to center up the rear. Facing the rear of the car, the right tire stuck out 3/8" more than the left. When tires spin and don't spin straight, it exacerbated the wheel hop.

BEST suspension mod thus far? BFG KDW2 tires. Night and day from the Goodyears. F1 Supercars are always on sale at Tire Rack for a reason. They suck. I had the Supercar run flats on a C5 and they were fine. These aren't.

If you're looking for mod ideas, try this.....either BMR or Steeda lower control arms. If that doesn't dramatically help, try the panhard to realign things. Next step would be tires. Final step would be the upper control arm (unless you're drag racing it a lot....then go ahead and do the upper control arm)

Welcome to the site!! You are one tough customer. The Terminators are great cars. But no car is perfect for everyone. FYI- From what I have read from other GT500 owners, Steeda has great parts for your suspension. Ford gave us the GT500 as great platform to work with for everyone and it's up to you to go from there if you need more. Just open any new Mustang magazine and you're sure to find what you need in there. Good luck.

Wow, those are some harsh comments and apparently you had no idea what type of vehicle you were getting into, as you readily admit. I've owned a 911 and an M3 in the past, and I think my Shelby GT is a great handler, especially considering it costs a BUNCH less than those other cars to buy and maintain. Add the fun and admirement factors and its one of the best values out there IMO. I suggest that you sell your GT500 immediately because I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there who will love it.

post-10766-1195782954_thumb.jpgKind of glad Ford didn't build it like some would of thought it should have been built. Price$$ of the car would have been out of reach for some. I think sometimes we expect more then we should, I myself like to tinker in the garage and personalize my ride. I have upgraded my car with a few modification and think the car is awesome. .With the following suspension modifications the car handles excellent. I agree that the tires are not the best performanced tire for this car but I guess I will have get the type of shoe for what I'm going to use the car for. I have other modification but maybe will list on another post.

Ilmor I knew what I was getting into. Youre Shelby GT is a different car than the 500. A few hundred pounds lighter, a better handler out of the box and already lowered.

Theres a lot of things I love about this car but the ride is not what I would have liked out of the box.

What SN8KBYT has with the evo setup is probably the way I have to go. But lets be real we all know this thing does the bunnyhop stock setup. I guess I was used to the 600lb spring setup on my 03. Now granted that had wheelhop too but I did feel more like one driving that car. Before the 03 was an01 cobra. The power upgrades (ie evo stage 2 ) I knew had to be done, but you cant tell me that ford couldnt have spent another 100 bucks to put in different control arms and panhard bar. How bout the shifter. They couldnt have put in the ford racing shifter similar to the one in your gt along with a set of 373's. This car was a pain in the a** to get to begin with. Hey if I cant share it here then where do I go to. I know VENOMOUS1 already sent me the link :D

but on a serious note thanks to those with the helpful feedback

There was a thread froma guy in Seattle, I think, that did his supension with help froma shop. He said it TOTALLY changed the handling characteristics of the stock ride, Not sure if you read it but if you did his mechanic told him to drive it like he stole it.

You might try to search for the thread....I think it was about 3 mos ago. Also the cool things about mustangs have always been how well they repond to mods. Good luck with your quest.

I too expected more for the cost of the car and am disappointed that I have to spend a couple more grand to get it where I think it should be. But when you consider cost per HP it's really cheaper than other cars especially considering what the finished product will be. For the money where else can you find a mod friendly car with the potential and looks that this one has. Yes I expected more, and I have owned a lot of pretty neat performance cars in my time but still none will compare to this one.

Spend a couple grand on the suspension and put the pulley and tune on the car and if you still hate it trade it for a Z-06. You will still have to mod the engine to get the power a modded and tuned GT500 makes. The Z06 is an impressive handling car. But it is in another class also and so is it's price tag.

A car 'in the pricerange' that I was really impressed by even though it lacks some horses compared to the GT500 is the BMW 335i. Great pulling car that can get 416hp with a chip, handling is really good and so are the fit and finish. Kind of off topic, but that's a great car in 'this range' that perhaps the thread starter might want to check out if they can't get their car where they want it.

hahaahahahah

sorry but really I may have bashed a product, but you just bashed the entire car!

That was too funny though really, but Im sorry I really didnt remember your username and I still don't even though you brought that up. Did you change names?

Im in a similar boat as you, as I think the suspension blows, but that is such a minor part of the car IMO because those that have changed theres out absolutley love the car!

Once mine is lowered and hop free, I know it will be the ultimate dream car I already think it is, but it will at least perform like one. Right now I cant even come close to utilizing the HP due to the hopping in 1st and 2nd gear.

Sersiouly though, keep the car, it gets better with each mod, and not like a little better, ALOT BETTER

I am in love with this car hahahah

PS-I think I lost my recent GF over this obsession, she just did not understand, she made me chose her or the car, I chose the car!

GT500 FTW

Well hi everyone. I didnt mean to stir the pot so much. I dont even think I bashed the car. I did however bash the suspension. Now I know it needs to be upgraded. All I said was that with all the hype surrounding the production of my gt500, ford could have done a bit better than the suspension that they released it with. Obviously the most helpful comments are from those that have already done their susp. setup. I do hope however that with some of these not performance car friendly roads in NY that lowering this car doesnt bring a new set of issues.

Chuck not to get into it but your basically talking about the same things that I have a problem with in your post about susp. upgrades. I didnt even ask any questions. I just stated my disbelief. So Ill do what I need to do and go from there.
