03reptile
Could someone give me the diameter of our stock GT500 exhaust tips? I don't have access to my car and am out of town. I want to order the chrome exhaust tips that slip over the stock pipes from the fordacceoriesstore.com. catalog (part# 5R3Z-5K238-BA). They designate only for the V-8 version (GT) and I know the GT exhaust tip is 3" in diameter. Is our GT500 tip the same diameter? or is it larger? If it is the same diameter as the GT then I'll order a set since I like the stock sound, but want the chrome tipped rolled exhaust look. Tried the search engine, but got tired of trying to find the info. Appreciate your help!

03reptile
Not sure I understand why you're doing this?can you post pix upon completion? how much are they? is chrome bertter than stainless? do they slide over the stainless tips? is it just for looks? I'm purchasing the chrome rolled tips because of the looks. The factory tips look thin an anemic. If you want to see what they look like, check out any Calf. Special Mustang GT. They are an exact duplicate, albiet not welded on the the pipe. They are $117.00 retail. They apparently slide over the existing tips and require no screws or welding. I'll let you all know how they install when I return home next week. I like the factory exhaust sound and don't want to change it, but want the rolled tip look of the Calf. Special GT. 03reptile
Just a quick up-date. I installed the new chrome rolled exhaust tips on the Shelby and they look great!! Easily slip over the existing pipes and there are nice clamps (included) that hold them in place. I was initially worried about the clamps being too visible and considered having them spot welded on, but my tech advised against it because of distortion and discoloring, so I used the clamps. Rotated the thightening bolt to the twelve O'clock position and they look fine. Really a big visible difference. Ford should have used these from the get-go. Can't believe they scrimped on so many small things on their premier Mustang. My 03 Terminator had many more nice, small extras than the Gt500 and cost less!! dragpack70
03reptile, Would you tell me about how long these exhaust tips are? I located the installation instructions on the web, and those instructions make them look like they might be pretty short. I looked at some Ford Accessory slash cut tips on a V-10 pickup, and they appeared to be 8 to 8 1/2 inches long on the top. Does the clamp set back toward the back of the expanded part of the factory tail pipe extension, just in front of the muffler, or does it sit further out toward the rear diffuser? Also, the Mustang California Special tips you referred to measure a little less than 2.75 inches in diameter. What is the inside diameter (side-to-side) of the rolled part of the tip?
