As far as a "family sedan" goes, though; I'ld take this over a Taurus anyday! Especially with NA 404hp. I couldn't find a spec on curb weight???

Don't know why you guys think EVERYTHING is in competition with the GT500?

I would buy this car for my wife tomorrow (and then borrow it for OT events :hysterical2: )

+1

400hp 4 door would make the family trips a little more fun!

Wow, you got it.

That thing is a Pontiac Grand Prix with Ford badging on it, who are they trying to kid?

Nice photoshop Sharon! :finger:

:barf:

No I take no credit. This came right from Ford Performance, however for a everyday car if it where not 58,000 I would buy this being that it has 4 doors and looks good.

Man... that's the engine they need to stick in the 2009/2010 Mustang GT.

Give me some of that 400 bhp / 400 lb.ft power in NA form

...and they need to price it as reasonable as the current 4.6 3-valve Mustang.

I don't want a Shelby GT500, too much money and I don't like forced induction.

Ford... Just take the current Mustang GT, revise the look for 2009/2010 and drop this engine in it.

That would make it a proper GT Mustang. Maybe revive the GT390 name to go with it

FORD... GIVE US WHAT WE WANT... AND AT PRICE NOT FAR DIFFERENT THAN THE CURRENT GT!!!!

Welcome, Zektor.

May I ask why you don't like forced induction? The sound of a supercharger whine makes me feel kinda funny. :dreamy:

I don't think it is too bad looks wise, it will be aimed at the enthusiast sector for sure with the price tag and the limited availability. I bet they have a gear head community just like our bunch and they would mod the hell out of them.

:hysterical2::hysterical2::hysterical2::hysterical2:

Just read this thought you guys may find it sounds familiar, just a snippet

A Cobra GT will be the star of the Ford stand at the Australian International Motor Show.

One of the $65,000 cars is already listed on eBay with a starting bid of $80,000, and a buy-it-now price of $120,000.

“Put it this way,” FPV general manager Rod Barrett said yesterday, “I had 400 sedans and 100 Utes that were allocated to dealers and every dealer took their allocation.

“Now, I don't have figures on the retail numbers but from what I have heard they have gone quicker than free beer.”

Mr Barrett said there was no possibility that any more than the strictly limited 500-car production run would ever be built.

“Then they wouldn't be a limited run special, would they?”

LOL different country same deal.

hey ....wait a minute :):nonono: Some haven't gotten theirs yet ! ...

Build 'em fine -- with more KRs in '09!! :happy feet:

Do it again -- kicked-up for '10! :headspin:

<$hit, nothing rhymes with eleven! :shrug::hysterical2: >

ok, just razzin' ya, but making a car for more years doesn't affect the value of prior cars, imo If that were the case, the vintage GT500s would have plumetted by now! ;-) ...and folks would be gettin' ready to dump their old BOSSes <lol>

...you got yours now a lot of others want theirs  ;-)

True, it's more like a GTO. However, if Ford keeps building Shelby GT500's EVERY year out (hence CS's long term contract with Ford) than our GT500's value will dilute to nothing more than a Mustang GT. :angry2:  :banghead:

FORD keep'em Great! Stop at '08!!!

I'm glad they are building more, means the price will be down where it should be and I can get one.

To me, this car illustrates very well why Ford is having so much trouble with its car lineup in North America. I agree that this does not look as good as a GT500, but this is a 4 door sport sedan and you have to compare it to other cars of its kind in that regard. To me, this car looks pretty good, minus the rear wing.

As far as price is concerned, one cannot simply make a currency conversion and assume that it would be the US price. Cars are actually way more expensive in Australia than in the US. Taking as an example a sport sedan that is available in both markets, I checked the price for an Audi RS4 on Audi's australian website. MSRP is $164,500AUD or $147,700USD at today's exchange rate. As a comparison, the actual MSRP of an RS4 in the US is $67,000 USD, less than half the australian price! Based on that, we could assume that the GT Cobra would be more like high 20s - low 30s if sold in the US. Don't forget that this car is basically a competitor of the Holden Monaro (Pontiac GTO around here) which was not a $60,000USD car when sold in the US.

To me, this car could be Ford's answer to the Charger STR8; a big and powerful rear drive sport sedan that is certainly more exciting to drive and to look at than any Focus, Fusion or Five Hundred (now Taurus). If Ford figures that it would be too complicated to import the car as a whole and adapt it to the US market, at least they should use the engine for the Mustang and in a modern rear drive sedan platform destined to the US market. The engine exists; what are they waiting for?

I don't know what Australia's CAFE regs are like (of if they have such regs) but that could be part of it too?

Or maybe they could put something like that engine in the Interceptor (the 4 door concept loosely based on the Mustang chassis which as shown with a DOHC modular).

I agree that the North American market is hungry for a 4-door family car with rear-drive and a H.O. V8 -- it's been too darn long, imo.

Even a V6 TT would do, as long as it has real guts and is rear drive, I think it would be a hit.

What the ugly is that $H!T? Is that the PontiacGT500MustangGTO?

And for 54-58k?

LOL LOL LOL

I have got to get some of what the Ford higher ups are smoking, it must be the best drugs on earth.

Seriously stunned.

Got to remember all that this is in Australia- It's a totally different world over there. Power adders (Ex: Nitrous, superchargers and turbos) are against the law. Having any type of performance vehicle is frowned upon by the police and usually brings harassment to the owner. The cars cost more but the people also expect more. 2 door cars are virtually nonexistent.

I think it's a great effort by their Ford team over there to bring an extremely well put together performance Ford worthy of the Cobra name!!

400+HP NA power of raw Ford!! Way to go Australian Ford!! :) :burnout:

YZD263 is right...you can't just do currency conversions and compare to US pricing. As another comparison, a Chrysler 300C SRT8 is $72,000AUD with a conversion to $65,500US. That would be a 60%+ price increase from the US pricing. I think in terms of US pricing, the Cobra GT would be in the low to mid-$30k's.
