ShelbyDude
I thought it was a CD. ? Sync is a Ford-exclusive technology based on Microsoft Auto software which provides consumers the convenience and flexibility to bring digital media players – Apple iPods, Microsoft Zunes, and other MP3 players – and Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones into their vehicle and operate the devices via voice commands or with the vehicle's steering wheel or radio controls. Simply stated: with Sync, consumers are able to use their voice to command their digital media players and Bluetooth mobile phones. Sync is an on-board computer platform loaded with software that seamlessly integrates the vehicle with today's popular portable electronic devices. Since it is a software-based system, it is updatable and should be able to support the devices and services of tomorrow.
ShelbyDude
Introducing SYNC, it is an all-new voice-activated, hands-free in-car communication and entertainment system that fully-integrates Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones and digital music players and is exclusive to Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Key Points About SYNC: What is SYNC? SYNC is an amazing piece of new technology that lets people use their Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and digital media players (iPods, Zunes, and most others) in their vehicle – just by speaking to them. It's also hands-free. It uses state-of-the-art voice activation that's powered by Microsoft and is only available on Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury products. How is SYNC Different? Nobody else offers this technology. It's the result of a joint Microsoft and Ford commitment to lead the field in the management of information and entertainment in vehicles. SYNC's "Killer App" is its unique, next-generation voice recognition software. SYNC allows you to play and control music from devices like iPod, Zune, other MP3 players, and flash drives simply through voice activation. With capable phones, SYNC will also read your text messages to you including common message abbreviations, like LOL (Laugh out loud). SYNC allows you to reply to text messages by using voice commands to select from 15 pre-defined responses. Who is SYNC for? It's for anybody who wants to be able to integrate their cell-phones and digital music players into their vehicles and use them simply. SYNC will appeal to a wide range of people who depend on the technology of their personal devices – from parents on the go to multi-tasking professionals on the road, to music fans, to audio book listeners. What is the benefit of SYNC for owners? On compatible phones and media players, SYNC lets them send and receive Bluetooth wireless phone calls, as well as access genre, album, artist, and song title on their digital music player just by using simple voice commands; to put it simply SYNC allows you to talk to your iPod. And, the technology is fully upgradeable, so as new phones and media players hit the market SYNC will grow with them. SYNC Availability: SYNC will be available this Fall on 12 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury nameplates including Focus, Fusion, Taurus, Taurus X, Edge, Explorer, Sport Trac, Milan, Sable, Mountaineer, MKZ, MKX. Most of the remaining FLM nameplates will introduce SYNC in the 2008CY. Joe G
Sync is a Ford-exclusive technology based on Microsoft Auto software... Yikes! Does that mean it will crash every few weeks and require a total reboot of the system? Then, once you get used to it, you'll be forced to upgrade to the newest version, which won't work with any of your current programs, necessitating buying all new accessories? Hope not. nachtkriechen
I remember seeing something about this at an autoshow a while back. This is a great idea, and hopefully the voice recognition software will be advanced enough that we don't run into problems where you're asking for "Def Leppard" and the system plays "Lynard Skinnard". It's cool that it will be able to be updated as well. - Josh
