DVS2XS
Apples and Oranges It is not going to be as fast as a a seriously moded Honda with 450 hp either. With the same mods it will be faster than a Terminator.
KCMO-GT500
from this morning's svt performance forum: Latest HotRod issue get's FIRST DRIVE of new GT500 Coupe! Hey guys... got the magazine yesterday... haven't seen anything posted... Here are the highlights of the article: 1.) First off... testing was done at California Motor Speedway... and cars were not 100% production cars (Obviously) 2.) At time of article... they were saying 475+HP (engineers said more like 485HP/475TQ on conservative 'fat' tune... and should be more when leaned out for mileage reasons). They said the first cars dynoed 435-440 RWHP. 3.) Transmission is called a Tremec TR6060 (I know alot of people didn't know exactly what it was going to be called). 1st gear is a 2.97 4.) 3.31 Rear Gear 5.) 14" Front Brakes 11.8" rear 4 Piston Front Calipers, Stock Rear w/ Better pads 6.) 18X9.5" all the way around... 255/45 Front.. 285/40 Rear 7.) Front Splitter & Rear wing are functional... 160lbs Lift + 160lbs Downforce at 150MPH... for Zero Lift. (Standard GT has 400Lbs of lift at 150!) 8.) 3,920 Coupe / 4,040 Convertible 57/43 Weight Distribution Coupe 9.) I'll quote this line for everyone "When we reported on the conept car a year ago, the target was to keep it under $40K, but it doesn't look like that'll happen"... "Ford says the final pricing hasn't been set but admits it will be in the low $40's." 10.) 7,500 cars per year minimum expectations 11.) "When the PR folks weren't looking... they snuck over to a long access road at California Speeway... and put the G-Tech up on the windshield... spun REALLY HARD out of the hole to do 0-60 in 5.1 & 12.9 @ 111 in the 1/4. The 0-60 time is a result of 'totally blazing' the tires off the line, and our itty bitty window of time with the car meant we didn't horse around w/ Calibrating the G-Tech. But we're completely comfortable in saying that this is an Easy 12 second car." 12.) GT500 BOLT-ON Speedparts! "There will be a 'Power Pack' that will increase blower boost and add exhaust and air intake enjancements. A GT500 specific 'Drage Pack' is the Power Pack plus, headers, perhaps a new rear gear, and a shifter. The 'Handling Pack' will lower the car an inch and include adjustable shocks & strutes. Then there's a s'Super Pack' a blower upgrade to a 3.3L Whipple twin-screw huffer" 13.) FRPP is also developing a driveshaft kit, brake pad upgrades, and a brake duct cooling kit. That is at least all the 'major' stuff... that I caught! Hope this helps!

Guest evilchris
Dude, If you want to knock the GT500 and praise the all-mighty Cobra, please go back to svtperformance.com. The GT500 is the 07 SVT Cobra. I have no clue why you guys think Shelby had anything to do with this car. SVT should be praised for this car. WTF is up with your attitude? THERE CAN BE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR? IT IS THE PERFECT CAR? It's heavy and Ford should have cut some weight and used some more exotic materials to bring the weight down. I would have loved for it to have run with a Z06 but at that curb weight it won't happen.
Five Oh B
evilchris, your comment may have not been worded gently and has upset some folks, but you are correct that the GT500 is quite overweight. However, an iron block, supercharger, related plumbing and fluids for intercooler, robust suspension, etc. all conspire to add weight, but with the gains in horsepower the weight isn't as big an obstacle as it would be without forced induction. An lbs/hp ratio of 8:1 is pretty damn good considering the price point of a GT500. The Z06 may have a better ratio, but factor in the money and the GT500 is one hell of a performance bargain - fat pig or not.
RUFDRAFT
Let's see - with the boost pushed up to 12 - and new pulleys - and a tune - 650hp. And the internals and drivetrain has been designed to handle it. All for about $500. That, to me, might just be enough to rattle the Z06's cage. I know I'll be looking for one. So.whats your point ? anyone knows that at any given HP rating the car that weighs less will probably be faster. But with equal mods the 07 GT500 will always be faster than the 30-04 Cobra. So get over it! By the way the GT500 will also handle better . You can take your negativity back to svtperformance.com now, better yet, just keep it to yourself. Just about everyone on this site will be buying this car so you have just disrespected all by calling it a "pig".

150man
The GT500 is the 07 SVT Cobra. As far as this nearly fifty year old is concerned, the Mustang died in 1974. Of those special cars built before then- the ones adorned with the name Shelby were extra special. These were the cars that the boys and young men of my era loved and adored- and dreamed of owning. I had a friend back then who was hard core Pontiac and Chevy. Trashed Mustangs every chance he got- until he had the opportunity to buy a '68 GT 500 Shelby Mustang. It took him 2 seconds to become a Ford man. The letters SVT do nothing for me- just like all the so called Mustangs made from '74-'04. The '05 Mustang was like a resurrection of sorts- and lead to the resurrection of my interest in performance cars again. Now, with the opportunity to own and drive a "Shelby Mustang", I'm like a man possessed. I go to bed late and get up early to find and read everthing I can find about this car. So, even if you have your facts right, as they might be, your arguements will have no effect here. Just like a loving mother overlooks the flaws in her wayward son, we who love the Shelbys of the late 60's will overlook the flaws in this car. In my mind, this Mustang is the best and nothing you can say will change it- so you might as well just give up trying. And yeah, I'm a FANBOY, but I don't care! Guest evilchris
Ok I'll go into sheep mode. The car is perfect. Carroll Shelby designed the car with a slide rule, 100% of it. He then built the engine with his bare hands, hand hammering the metal. No other car in the world will ever be as fast. All other cars suck. Mustang Cobra's suck. 5.0's suck. Only the Shelby is a good Mustang. 3900lbs is light for a small car. Happy?
SVTpower
Depends..........you gone??? Seriously though...........rumours have it the Challenger and the Camaro (if made) will be even heavier. Other than the vette/viper, what domestic muscle cars are light??? Then again, look at the $$ of those and compare.

kaylan1521
I had a similar debate on another site and here's how I approached it. Everybody raves about the 2000 Cobra R as the be all and end all of Mustangs. I personally would really love to drive a car as raw as that. However, when the topic of how a R would kick the Sheby's rear I did some research and this what I came up with. 2000 Cobra R 3590 lbs - 385hp- 56.5/43.5 ratio - 9.32#/HP 2007 Shelby GT500 3920lbs - 500hp - 57/43 ratio- 7.84#/HP Braking almost identical and yada yada yada. Now, by reading my specs one would think the Shelby would walk the R right? Who knows? My point is that I don't disagree it's a little portly but there is one factor when all this bench racing going on. Are you listening?.... THE CAR IS NOT BUILT YET!!!!!! So how can anyone, yes evilchris even you say that car X will walk circles around it, or car Y will out brake it etc. As I said before, when the car is out, if it doesn't live up to the hype...Bash Away! Until then give the damn car a chance. I know I will.
