  1. 1. Do you drive your GT500 in the rain?

    • Routinely- I bought it to drive it

    • Occasionally- Sometimes I have no choice

    • Only when caught by surprise-
      25
    • Never. If there's a cloud within 200 miles the car stays in the garage!

Just curious what everyone is doing. I started lookin at the stang as a daily driver so I could keep my Viper in the garage, but I wound up buying a GT500 that will be coming this week. Now I have a problem- 2 cars that I hate to get wet- What are you guys doing? Daily driver or future museum piece???

She's my daily driver, and my only car. I didn't pay that much money for a car to sit in the garage! So I say, bring on the rain! Snow, however, will cause me to become "ill" and unable to make it to work. :hysterical:

Mine is kind of a DD, I drive it to work every third day and then it sits on my 2 days off.( I work 24 on and 48 off ) I use my pick up on my days off cause I am parking in places like Home Depot, walmart etc.. where I will not park my 500 unless I have to. The car sits in the garage at home and gets a car cover at work. I will not drive it if we have any hurricanes forcasted!!

I only drive her on nice days

The first time I got caught in the rain is on my trip up to the Florida meet and greet

It has only been rained on a couple of times, when it gets wet; it takes a lot longer to get her clean

Getting all the water spots out of the engine compartment and the undercarriage is a real chore

However it is a labor of love

In Oregon, if you don't drive in the rain you miss 10 months of the year. I drive in the rain and boy was I ever relieved to discover my car didn't melt. So cleaning this black car is sooo rewarding when done. I also had to decide if 20 or 30 years down the road the

Barret Jackson auction mattered to me when I welded on the Griggs watts link bracket. I've decided to use and drive this awesome car as much as possible.

How do u all avoid getting water and thus spots in your engine bay and such when just simply washing your car?

I almost hate washing it because it takes so long to clean it, another words, washing the car also makes other parts dirty if that makes sense

I rarely wash Shelby with the hose and bucket method. Mostly I use the sponge bath method. That way I can wash her in the garage, out of that damaging sunlight. Also, water doesn't get into all the nooks and crannies. Then again, I also wash the engine bay and engine every time I wash the car, so it doesn't really make much difference if water gets in there anyway.

Bought this Shelby with the intention of driving the heck out of it, even thought I'd take out in the rain, but after owning 5 weeks, NO - will not take out in the rain. All the sports cars I have owned over many years, NOT ONE has ever been out in the rain. Just can't bring myself to do it, but will say in only 5 weeks have 1300 miles, whereas my (2) Vipers, 94-2800 and 96-3200 miles only. Just love the performance in something other than a 2 seater. Much more comfortable.

Oregon is not that bad. I have lived in the Vancouver / Portland Metro area all my life.

I save time after washing by using the Metro "AirForce" Motorcycle Dryer that I bought for my Harley. After the initial micro-fiber drying cloth wipe-down, the AirForce dryer blows the residual water from the nooks and crannies (grill, wheels, seams, gas cap, spoiler, etc.). Works fantastic.

OK, now this is getting creepy. That's my wife too!

Isn't it a shame how we torment ourselves? I have refused in the past to let my Cobras and Vipers see rain- then when I sell them I always kick myself in the butt for being so stupid. I deprived myself for the next guy who usually got a deal anyway.

The showers in South Florida are almost daily at times, even though most of the day is sunny. Every time I go out I get nailed. If I go out on a clear nite I get nailed by someones errant sprinkler(which I refer to as a cheap shot). The problem is I get really upset about wasting the 2 1/2 hrs I spent detailing the car.

I need to lighten up!! :banghead:

I'm so anal about this that when the car was delivered today I did not drive it at all. Talk about being in a bad mood!!!OMG I was insane!!It poured all day and let up for 10 minutes, enough time to pull it out of the trailer. Once I rolled her off the trailer, I rolled her in the garage. When the weather breaks I'll post some pix.

I can't seem to find a dry time either during the last 2 weeks. :banghead:

I think I responded to this the day all posts were sucked into the ether. When I flew to Ontario a year ago to get my convertible, it was a nice sunny day. Over the next 3 days driving home through northern Ontario, I had rain, snow, then some more rain. My beautiful black vert turned gray!

So when it snowed (it melted as it hit the ground, so no worries there), I did what all new car owners would do. Yes, I took pictures!

It's like when you get the first ding or rock chip: now it's broken in. And speaking of that trip, my wife told me there was no need to "fly" home, as she knew about the 500 HP. I have photo eveidence that I did, actually, fly home:

yep

cold engine

I avoid direct spray into the hood vents

pop the hood after drying and blow it off

dry it with a microfiber towel

Apply ICE :happy feet:
