zane
Hello, To my knowledge, nothing has been confirmed by Ford as to for how many model years the new Shelby GT 500 will be built. That being said, I would invite comments on any hints Ford has dropped re same, rumors, speculations, etc. Thank you!
DVS2XS
2007 and 2008 A two year production run - just like the Ford GT. A two year exemption is easy. This prevent any issues with EPA, CAFE, etc.
Five Oh B
The contract we signed to be able to sell GT500's was for 2007-2008 only, but there was a note that by not signing up for 2007 a dealer would not be eligible to sell SVT products again until 2009. It did not say that the 2009 product would be a Shelby, however.

94gt
For those of you that think they will go back to a mustang cobra when the dodge challenger and camaro hit in 2009 dream on. Ford is not that stupid! In calling svt numerous times over the past year on the car langauge such as "a minimum of" or "at least" two years has always been used. I have yet to hear only two years from anyone. For those of you who saw the you tube video from san diego with jay o connell he openly admits they are working on more versions of the gt500. Watch it! I remember reading a post by a ford employee who said a five year contract had been signed. The aug. issue of muscle mustangs and fast fords says exactly that, 5 years. 5.0 magazine and Road and Track are claiming three years. Whenever the body change is 2009 or 2010 the car will change. Look the non supercharged Boss won't have enough power to compete with the GM or Dodge muscle cars and ford will not back out leaving the camaro and challenger no competition. The 2009 Shelby will be a reality. :bandance:
shelbymustangdan
My hopes are it's just a two year run. But I just picked up the Aug issue of Mustangs & Fast Fords, and they make a statement of five years as well. I am hoping they are wrong, and we see just two years of the GT500. IF Ford wants to continue the level of enthusiasm with Mustangs in general, they should go back to the idea of producing a new body design every two years, such as the 65-66, 67-68, 69-70, etc.

WTF?^says you Anyway based on this Autoweek/06-05-06 we can expect at least another year of this bodystyle. As the suppliers have made increased commitments(I understand its the transmission that was the choke point) its more than likely that another(3rd) year is a good choice for Ford. The only question left is do they strip the SHELBY badging off it to protect the collectors, or just continue on until the market is saturated. I suspect that some low key buzzers are going off at FORD corporate reguarding the appetite amongst the buying public for a $45k Mustang. We already anticipate 18+k cars, a third year of regular production with the normal taper would add what 5k more? Could this car lead too skewing the next Stang upscale? BadTony
Has Ford management acknowledged any statements to that fact (that there will be an additional madel year of Shelbys) or are these magazine editors and others basing their comments on speculation? Hey, I call them how I "know" em'. And I find out my info direct from someone "in the know" which is not some b.s. magazine rag. I will double check what the current plan is (and if the 09 re-engineer has been moved back). Things change so fast thru out our company (Fo.Mo.Co) Other models that will be getting a refresh that year. F150 and Focus. My paycheck has one of those blue ovals on it. BadTony
wildosvt - no offense intended it's just that previous comments sounded like quotes coming from a magazine article rather from the direct exposure of being a Blue Oval-er employee. (got mixed up with who said what - should have addressed jetsolver) Anyways, it's good to have "insiders" participate in these forums, it's just too bad that some of the upper program and product managers don't. current and accurate info are keys to great customer service Thanks for sharing any info you get !! The Ford GT buzz did wear off, and so will the GT500. Unless you and alot of other stangers keep buying GT500(at 45+ Gs) Ford will stop making this car. As far as Shelbys, he was pissed that Ford is doing 7k+ "some what mass produced" in his words Good luck with your 2009 "COBRA" THATS IT!

Five Oh B
I've been told by a friend who works for Ford that the current generation Mustang is being extended an extra year to 2009 and that the restyle has been pushed back to the 2010 model year. This opens up the distinct possibility of a 2009 GT500 on the same platform/style as the 2007-8 GT500's. Our contract to sell GT500's indicates that there will be 2009 SVT models, but does not specifically say one will be a GT500, although a GT500 could be one of them. An SVT truck of some sort is in the works, too, and I suspect it'll be ready by 2008 for the 2009 model year. V8 Ranger? Terminator powered Sport Trac (Adrenaline)? Lightning? Who knows, but one is coming.

Are you speaking on behalf of Ford for a 3rd year of GT500 production? Mr.Shelby said enough for me and made it easy for me. "I'd get in trouble if I told you," he said, although he confirmed that a redesigned Mustang is due out in 2009. Shelby confided that while his health is good following both a heart transplant and a kidney transplant, he is now blind in one eye http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/News/articleId=115870 Don't doubt me. RocketLou
According to the person at SVTOA I spoke to yesterday, there will be only 2 years of production This is correct. I spoke with SVT rep today (JUN 26 2006). Model years 2007 and 2008 only. To dispel a piece of inaccurate information: I read somewhere on a site that Ford has an option to build in 2009 also, I was told by SVT today- this is not the case. chrisoehrle
Well, I have to imagine that the reaction has been as good or better than they expected. I mean does anyone think that they committed to this project (GT500) thinking that they would be selling for $15-20k over MSRP. They surely are taking this as a good sign. In the past, many MFRs have stretched out the production of a great car, ala 1967 Vette, etc. Thanks for the insight, but if things change let us know please. My hopes are it's just a two year run. But I just picked up the Aug issue of Mustangs & Fast Fords, and they make a statement of five years as well. I am hoping they are wrong, and we see just two years of the GT500. Was two years, now three (maybe that's the additional contract for 3000 more GT500 hard-parts for delivery 1Q08 that was posted elsewhere). Ranger would be ideal base for SVT truck -- F150 just too heavy at +800lbs, that's why no Lightning since F150 re-do). I have not heard any specifics on SVT truck in 08/09, but I have heard that there will be a 4.4L twin turbo V8 diesel F150 which would not seem to fit as a performance truck, however I'd heard separately rumors that Roush is already testing a Ford twin turbo diesel motor for possible NASCAR truck series. So maybe the landscape is changing in new ways in the not too distant future. (Me, I want an aluminum DOHC Hurricane in anything with 4 wheels ;-)
