When my Shelby GT500 has arrived.........

When my Shelby GT500 has arrived at the dealer.

I think I will trailer it home instead of driving it.(Dealer only aprox. 25 miles away)

Also, I will instruct the dealer to leave the sticker in the window and do not mount the front plate holder on the front bumper.(Although this maybe stretching it) I will also ask not to put one mile on the car.

Why? A car of this caliber, I will be so in shock and proud to have and will drool over it a while parked in my garage.

So many of the guys that know I am getting the GT500 can't wait to see it. My garage will be like a car museum for a while from all my buddies coming by to check out the car.

Man, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. I am so excited :woohoo:

I'll request no dealer prep, other than to re-tune the engine/computer. No front plates here in PA.

I'll get the window sticker framed for the garage.

I'll bring it home and proceed with a 2 day detail....from clay bar to the final Adam's Polish step.

Then, it depends on the time of year. Winter: It will be stored for a few months. Spring, Summer, or Fall: It will be out every day that I won't freeze my cajones off with the top down.

Once I get a feel for how it reacts, I'll decide on whether to spring for the original twin screw that was supposed to be on it initially. Probably 1" to 1.5" lower springs, maybe a little investigating into exactly which tires should be on it, and if I'm feeling playful I might look into some Foose wheels - in black chrome to go with the Alloy.

My God - it's worse than I orginally thought.

You guys all have PSDS - I suggest you re-read that thread and follow my suggestions I've posted for relieving the stress you're under.

A shame. :shift:

(carpet under tires? whew.)

I'll baby it for the first 1500 miles. After that, it will be driven. Probably not daily, but probably pretty close until the excitement starts to abate (if ever). I will drive it in the rain. I will drive it in the cold (no snow or salt to worry about here). I will drive it in the wind. And I will drive it to the race track, and flog it mightily. My family has always questioned my flogging of my '98, and my Dad was flat out shocked to hear that I intend to drag race the Shelby. But, I do. I will care for it as meticulously as my other cars, maybe a little more so. It will still look sharp when it is 10 years old, but it won't be stock. It will be modified too, definitely a freer flowing exhaust, short throw shifter, probably lowered a bit. I plan to keep it forever. A lot of people say that, very few follow through. I said that about my first car, and I've owned it now for 19 years and counting.

After mines broke in it will definitely be driven the way it was intended, but this will be the first car I've ever owned that I will not drive in the rain or snow simply because I don't have to. I'll have my other car for that. It will not be a daily driver and will be garage kept, but I will have fun in it every chance I get.

I will drive mine to and from work every day. I will drive it to get groceries. I will drive it across country. This car was made to be DRIVEN.

I can't stand people who who buys cars and garage queen them, what a waste of an automobile. I will have 200,000 miles on mine within 10 years.

This car will have at least 7000 examples. It is not going to be worth 10x what is sold at in 30 years guys, keep dreaming.

Bone Doc - where are you located?

We need to have a few brewskis!

I like your sense of humor.

Please read the PSDS thread toward the end - I've posted 10 ways to feel better. :bandance:

This site keeps me sane. At least it isn't me alone that feels this way!

I'm 55 years old. I've had 38 cars/trucks over the years. I've liked most of them a lot.

But - this car (I have a feeling) is going to make me wet myself!

My wife thinks I'm nuts (once again).

My students think it's very cool.

My neighbors will probably stop talking to me.

I don't care.

I suffered through all the years of Camaros having more hp than Mustangs. Arrghh.

It's payback time, MF'er!

It's open season on C6's real soon. :happy feet:

I'm sure people are thinking it but nobody wants to say it, so I will. Why don't all you guys who want to get a car to look at hold off and just buy a picture for now, and leave the first ones to the guys who want to drive them. Then when you buy them later after the price comes down you won't lose as much on your :censored: "investment."

Sorry, but if you gotta trailer it home instead of drivin' it, well.. that's just pathetic!

...And we're bitchin' at the dealers???

When each of mine arrive (coupe and 'vert) via shipping carrier, it's sounds like a great excuse... er, opportunity to head to Deal's Gap, NC, to "The Tail of the Dragon". Over 300 turns in 11 miles. Back and forth and back and forth and... It's not carpeted, though, so some of you can't come!!!!

Anyone who thinks this is an "investment" is an idiot. 7000 cars is not a "collectors" car. People who buy for $65k and then garage it are going to be suprised when it's worth 45k 1 year later. How many $300,000 05' Ford GTs are worth $300,000 now? They're worth 150 or less. Nice investment!

9000 2005 Thunderbird's were built. Easy as hell to find, and $15k under MSRP to purchase 1 year old.

I keep hearing " but it's 500HP OMFG that makes it worth 65k!!! " Since when is 500HP difficult to achieve in an S197? Paxton's HO kit brings a stock GT to 470.

Sure, I want the 2007 SVT Cobra too, but it's worth 40ish K and no more. This is not a state of the art vehicle like an M5 or something guys.

Blake - Interesting how you brought up the Tail.

This coming weekend, the Nissan Z cars are going to the Gap.

Christine and I were scheduled to attend with our 350 - but her MS is preventing that from happening.

I checked the schedule at Fontana Resort and no mention of Mustangs was available.

Miatas - Mini Coopers - Harleys - Crotch Rockets - Z's - but no Mustang weekend.

Perhaps our Admin's will step up and organize a weekend for Mustangs?

If you do a Google search on ZDayZ - you'll find the website that includes an in-car camera of the Tail (the car is Andy Morris' twin turboed Z).

I'm not real sure that stretch of road is a safe place for 500 hp Shelbys! (re: lots of Trees!)

The dealer I got my 2006 Ford GT from (at MSRP) offered me a name-in-the-hat lottery "opportunity" to purchase one of their 3 GT500s at $20K over list. He said they determined the competition to be the Corvette ZO6 and priced them accordingly.

There will be fewer ZO6s produced than GT500s, but more Shelbys are going for a greater markup. My 2LZ, Nav, Polished Wheels, Museum Delivery 2007 ZO6 should be $71,975 MSRP (based on '06 pricing), and the '06 ZO6s are going for $6-13K+ over list.

The long-term future does look promising for the Ford GT, based on production numbers, etc. But, who cares? This car is incredible to drive OR just sit and stare at! If it ends up being a good "investment", maybe my son will enjoy the profits. I doubt he'll ever be willing to part with it, though.

Bryan - I think it'll be much safer than my R1! Here's hoping NOT to contribute something to "THE TREE". (Tailers know what I'm talking about.) No better fun anywhere - two OR four wheels!

How the hell is the GT500 competition to the Z06? We aren't talking performance are we? The vette will destroy the GT500 in that arena. All you need to do is look at that drastically different power to weight ratio.

If we are talking performance, the Z06 is competition to the Ford GT.

I really don't think most of the people posting here think this car is an investment. I think most everybody here is thinking they are going to keep their car for a long time, and they want to take meticulous care of it so that 20 - 30 years from now the car still looks and drives great. I will probably never sell my car, so that definitely means it's not an investment. My '67 GT500 turned into an investment, much to my disappointment. I wanted to buy a couple more Shelby Mustangs, but they appreciated too fast for me to do that. If they continue to appreciate i will probably have to sell my '67 within the next 10 years, but to be honest, I hope they level off or start coming down. I used to think I'd own that car until I tipped over, but if it gets to the point where I am not comfortable driving it because it's too valuable, I don't want it anymore.

Thank goodness it's NOT an M5. Keep Chris Bangle the hell out of Ford's design studios! I've driven several M-spec Bimmers and owned a new non-M BMW, and I was not overly impressed with the ownership experience - especially when it left me sitting on the side of the road with a boiling radiator three days after I bought it! When I was sold the BMW, it was "the ultimate driving machine" according to the salesperson. When it boiled over, that same salesperson told an irate ultimate driving machine owner that I need to understand it is "only a car, built by humans". It was the most overblown vehicle I've ever owned, and as a result I only kept it for 8 months (and I waited 3 months for the :censored: thing to get built and shipped from Germany!). Hands down my '04 Cobra is the best car I've ever owned (26 cars and counting). It always puts a smile on my face, draws compliments, and feels great to drive. Add that it's an American car with that distinct American rumble and it just doesn't get much better for me! I'll trade I-Drive, auto climate control, nav, rain-sensing wipers, et al for a single highway on-ramp in my Cobra! :D
