Elwood
Something tells me that no dealer would ever pass up an opportunity to make some extra money by selling an extended warranty.
NOSHOULDERS
Are the warranties worth it? I'm Not planning on driving my car 20k miles a year.
Orf
I have bought extended warranties in the past, and not needed them. I have also passed on buying them, and ended up kicking myself for it. This time I will take a different approach. I'll price the top extended warranty from Ford and stick that money in a Mutual Fund. I'll probably kick something like $50 a month in there, to boot. I'll only use that money for repairs on the GT500 (if needed). Sometime around 2050, when I might consider selling it, I'll probably have some mad money in that account to play with. :bandance:
07 Shelby Cobra
It's strange... The other night when I did the Order thing, the General Manager brought me into the Business Office to sign the final Purchase Agreement with the Financial Services Manager. That's where they start in with the usual Fabric Guard, Paint Seal, Electronic Rust Proofer, Financing, Boomerang Anti Theft, etc, etc, etc, ..... sales job. But, no mention of the Extended Warantee? I didn't ask why because I don't want it anyhow.
owenkelley
I want to buy one for the longest number of years with the least amount of available mileage. My experience is that the miles are what makes the extended warranties cost more, so if I can get a 6 year 25,000 mile service contract or something similar to that, that is the route I'm going to take. I used to do F&I at the dealership I worked at, and I am convinced of their value.

I don't expect to reach much over the 36k miles, but I am sure it will surpass the three years. It was my intention to get the 10-year, 10k mile extension if it was available, knowing that it would be based primarily on the ten years.
DVS2XS
On the other end of the spectrum: I don't know IF I can wait for the standard warranty to expire before I start voiding parts of it.

Good point! But, if you stick with Ford Racing parts, will the warranty cover those mods?

jcthorne
When I finally land one I'll buy it. I'll be driving mine as a daily driver, about 20,000 miles a year. As good as Ford has gotten lately at avoiding paying legit warranty claims and as poor as the Ford service departments have gotten why would anyone want to prepay for service they will likely never get and dispise if they do get? Anything short of a major engine failure goes to my local large independent shop for repair rather than fight the dealer/warranty game. And any major failure would result in a law suit before it was paid anyway. Thank goodness I have never had a major warranty issue on a new Ford. Just minor stuff that has ALWAYS been a hassel to get repaired and ALWAYS resulted in my vehicle being returned to me with something else wrong that was not before. I would never buy a service plan that locked me into using incompetent and uncaring Ford dealer service. An aftermarket warranty is even more worthless as they frequently take the money, close up shop, file a bankruptsy for some offshore corporation that you cannot touch and hit the road with your money. Its a lose lose proposition. The dealer gets most of the money, Ford gets the rest. Then you fight to get any of it back. Naa, I plan to modify the car without regard to warranties that would never be honored anyway. I'll wait long enough to verify the unit I get is sound and then wave goodby to Ford service.
