2FST4U
I've had the Shelby for just over a year. Not a scratch on the car. I rarely leave the car unattended and worry like hell when I do. Ask my wife! So today I'm getting gas when I hear an ugly noise and feel the car shift. A woman in a POS van parked beside the station backs into the right front fender and also damages the hood with the spare tire carrier. The DFB says I didn't see your car. I said did you even look, thats what mirrors are for after all! The cop says private property can't assign blame. He was almost as upset as I was. At least she had insurance, a rare event in New Mexico. I located the best repair shop I could find. They are an upscale shop doing Mercedes, Porsche, etc. they were very reassuring so I believe I'll get the best repair possible. The paint won't be as good as factory, and if they replace the fender there will be trace marks on the fender bolts and so on. It will never be what it was. I can't begin to describe how depressed I am!!! Nothing like this has ever happened before. I still can't believe it.
SLB8SNK
Hang in there. We all feel for you! And this is just the way it is.... guys like us that protect our cars, are the ones that usually get shafted. Now had it been a 92 Escort... you could have parked behind her and hoped and prayed she would have hit you! Bottom line, it is only a car, it could have been you! Hard to think about, but material things my friend. If it had to get hit, better you not inside and worse. Glass is half full!
GT500KR
could be better than new look at this as an opportunity to get improvements done, It doesnt sound like frame damage or structural damage was done Good luck, Keep your chin up! Under10
Hey, maybe take the insurance money for the hood and use it to help pay for a new SuperSnake hood. Probably won't cover the entire cost but might make it a little easier to get...if you were thinking about getting one.

I can't begin to describe how depressed I am!!! Nothing like this has ever happened before. I still can't believe it. 2fast - I know how you feel - my 1st BRAND NEW car (2000 GT Vert) was hit in the front end when it was only 9 mos old!! Really bummed me out and I was never quite the same about the car...but I did learn a few lessons about body shops. I too took mine to the most upscale body shop I could find (they repair BMW's, Porsche's etc.) but still didn't get good service. Be sure you go and talk to the shop forman/body shop manger, etc. so you can tell if you want your Shelby fixed there or not. He/she should be concerned, have a professional attitude, etc...not be flippant and distracted all the time. Be sure you understand AND agree with the repair quote...my insurance co tried to use "remanufactured" parts on my GT - but I put a stop to it with one call to the ins co...had I not been paying attention - I would have gotten used parts!! Be sure and stop by the body shop at least twice a week to check their progress and make certain eveyone there understands how important your car is to you and that the work is done right. Also, if they need to send it out for any additional work (local Ford dealer, etc.) be sure you check with them as well. My body shop sent a laborer with my GT to the local Ford dealer, and the laborer just parked it in the back lot and walked away (with the key in the ignition and the windows down...grrr) a week later when I called to see what the delay was...the body shop blamed it on the Ford dealer, whom I promptly called and they didn't even know it had been delivered for service (still sitting on the back lot with the windows down)....so the 1 hour task of replacing an air bag memory module became a weeks delay in me getting my car back....basic lesson..YOU have to be the Project Manager on your repairs and you will get what you want...don't rely on others doing the right thing! Good luck and let us know how everthing turns out!!
GT500FLYBOY
Ditto. If you're going to have an accident and get hit, you couldn't ask for better results. Now your odds will improve since you've had your due.
03terminator
Modern paint shops can do amazing work. I'd be worried that the repair would be better than the Ford factory paint.

Grabber
I think I know how you must be feeling. I am very sorry to hear about this fender / hood bender on your pride and joy car. I hope the repair brings your baby back to new again. This soon will be behind you, and you will feel better. I have a good feeling that the repair will be as good as new. I definetly will go to the shop, talk to the manager and look things over. I know a few things about bodywork so I should be able to talk the talk. The hood isn't damaged enough for replacment although a KR hood would be nice! I have a great ins. company, USAA. When I called to report the accident the adjuster said she and her husband are huge Mustang people and knew all about the Shelby. She was very upset as well. Someone will inspect the damage on thursday. I'm going to ask him for shop reccomendations also.
Secondo
Oh man this hurt just reading it!! Sorry to hear about your baby!! Don't worry, she'll be back to normal soon and you'll forget about it. If the repair shop is good you won't know the difference. Make sure the insurance co. pays to have it repaired RIGHT!!! Either way they will have to remove stripes and repaint the entire hood. So just replacing it is probably better. The hood alone is less than $500. Add the paint and stripes which they would need to do anyway whether they replace the hood or not.

However I am in the business and I just wanted to reassure you that the paint systems that we use today are really great. KCMO-GT500
sorry to hear about this. thought the hood was aluminum and was not repairable, at least as far as anything beyond paint. go ahead and push for a new hood. you deserve it. For what its worth, I bought a new ford sport trac in 2003 for my son, who then got rear ended after only 9 months by a young girl going 35 in a dodge ram; ouch, 14k damage both front and back. I swear that the paint job by the body shop (local ford dealer) was much much nicer than the factory one. everything matched perfectly, and it was a metallic blue, so it took some work. Just ask around and make sure you find a place with happy customers, both with the process and the final product. and amen to USAA; they have had all my insurance since I was 22. Can't say enough nice about them. John
MissyandRob2005
Sucks man, but if there is a bright side, once the car is fixed your not as scared to park/drive it places. Everytime I get a new car im all paranoid about it until the first scratch, then its actually almost a relief to drive it then ...
jcthorne
Couple of points for you to consider. First, make sure you are dealing directly with HER insurance company. Do not have your insurance pay the claim and try to recoupe the loss unless you cannot get the claim paid. You have much more clout with the other insurance company than you think. And you do not need this to become and accident claim on YOUR insurance. Second, once repairs are well underway and being paid by the other person's insurance but BEFORE you sign off the checks agreeing to the total claim value, Ask to be compensated for depreciated value of the car. Once repaired, even if done correctly, the car has lower value than if not wrecked at all and you are entitled to be reimbursed for that loss in addition to the repairs. I had a similar accident with a nearly new 98 Cobra and was rear ended. Farmers's finally paid all repair costs to fix it RIGHT and then cut a check to me for $2500 in depreciated value reimbursement. This was in 1999. Good luck in getting this settled to your satisfaction. We are with you along the way.
Dropping__Chronic
I know how you feel, but worse. 3 months after I got my 04 Cobra, I was parked in a very far away space from everyone at a restaurant. Car was immaculate, with 8 coats of Zaino on her. While having an appetizer the manager comes by and asks if I was driving a black Mustang. I said yes, then he proceeds to tell me that someone backed into it, and took off. Yes, a drunk driver backed up 75 feet, tore my entire front fender and driver door up, then fled the scene. I never found them, had to eat the cost, and the car was never the same. At least you had the person there, and they didn't run into it while floored in reverse in an SUV. I've never felt so sick in my life. Hope you get yours fixed like new but I KNOW how you feel.

aonebadbone
Hay 2fst4u Before you sign the work order check out the AAA website they will recommend a body shop that will live up to the standards that AAA has set. It is hard to get a recommendations from AAA the standards are set high and you will not be disappointed. Just because they work on high end cars don't mean they care JMHO. I am sure sorry that this has happened to you're car. I can't imagine how you feel. It will be all right you'll;l be on the road soon.
