Drop Shipped to Dealer Near You

Does anyone know what it costs to have a car that is purchased

out of State, Dropped Shipped to a Dealer near you?

Is is a set fee or does it depend on distance ?? Just curious...

Should be free.

The selling dealer will not collect the PDI fee. That fee will need to be collected from the recieving dealer.

The drop ship code has to be entered onto the order before the order is pulled by the factory.

There is no cost. If it is dropped shipped directly from Ford to a dealer that is covered already in the Destination & Delivery charge on the window sticker.

What you will get charged for is a curtousey delivery fee charged by the dealer the car is being delivered to.

Those fees will vary by dealer. They can vary from $200 - $750 depending on what the dealer wants to charge you.

I would call around to the local dealers in your area and ask them what they would charge for a curtousey delivery to have your car drop shipped to them. Then go with the one that gives you the most reasonable fee.

Our dealership charges $200. So you can drop ship it to us and I will then drive it to you from there! Heck, I'll even waive the $200 fee! :hysterical:

Thanks Grabber,

Ok. Maybe I used a wrong term in drop ship....

Lets say a dealer from out of state ends up with the car on their lot, they are out of state and someone

purchases the car and wants it shipped to a dealer closer to them? Same Deal Free, or is their a cost

involved in that senerio ??

The 200 dollar fee should cover the PDI, If it does not, then they must not want your future business.

The $750 dollar fee should be called the "hostage" fee, not Courtesy fee. What a joke!

Depends on how many miles. Yes it will cost you 500 to 1500 depending on what kind of trailer you have it sent in.

I agree it is a joke, but some dealers are more greedy than others. That is why it is best to call ahead of time to set it up so there are no surprises.

The PDI fee goes to the service department. Has nothing to do with the delivery. Someone has to take the time to personally deliver the car and go over all the manuals and operation features of the car and clean the car up for delivery. That is not part of the PDI process.

Our dealership has one person that handles all curtousey deliveries. They pay him the $200 just as if he sold the car for doing the delivery and going over everything with the customer. $200 is the minimum commission paid on any car sold regardless of what the dealer makes or loses on it. Those people need to get paid for their time or no one would want to mess with doing it. They could be helping another customer instead and earning a commission otherwise.

If it is already on a dealers lot where you are buying it from that dealer and needing it shipped to you, then you can have it shipped right to your door. No need to have it shipped to another dealer.

The cost will vary based on miles.

The company SAI is using to ship the SGT's enclosed charged $1,800 to have one shipped from central IL to northern CA near SF.

Enclosed transport will cost more VS open trailer. There are lots of shipping companies you get free quotes from. If you google them and submit for a quote you will get blasted from many companies giving you a quote. You will need the zip code, city and state of the dealer the car will be shipped from and your address to where you want it shipped to.

Sorry.

I thought PDI stood for Pre Delivery Inspection.

I thought that a cars exterior body panels needed to be inspected, and that can't be done on a filthy car.

I know they check the engine internals and lug nuts too.

I have my service done at my local dealer, and they want all my future business, so I know they would let me drop ship a car to them and just pay THE $200 BUCKS.

Yes, pre-delivery inspection, which is all done by the service department. When the car is dropped off by the transport company it is looked over for damage. If any damage is missed by the person that checks the car in then it is on the dealer to pay to fix anything. If they catch it it is on the transport company or Ford that pays to fix anything. The car is not washed. The drivers don't wait around for that.

Then it goes to service and they inspect to make sure everything is working OK, fluids are OK, install any parts, such as hub caps, antennenas, etc. Then road test. Then dropped off to detail to be cleaned up to be put on the lot or for delivery. PDI does not cover any clean up cost. The detail department has to be paid seperately for that which the dealer pays for. We pay $10 for new car delivery clean up to the detail department.

Then a salesperson has to take out time to deliver the car to the customer. Now if all you had to do was, here ya go! Here are your keys! Seeeeyaaaa! I guess there would be nothing to it anyone could do that!

But a salesperson has to take the time to go over the car, make sure everything is working OK, set the clock, radio, go over the car with the customer, take time to answer any questions, show the customer how everything works, etc. This takes time.

Now if you have a salesperson there you already have a working relationship with then maybe they will be happy to that for you and not charge anything, but it isn't up the salesperson. It is a matter of what the dealership will charge. They all have different fees ranging from $200 to as much as $750 from what I have heard. Seems the $600+ fees are from dealers in CA. Someone posted this question before in the dealer message boards asking what dealers charge for curtousey deliveries and they were all over the place. I think we were the lowest with most ranging in the $300 - $400 range.

Here is the company SAI has been using to ship the SGT's all over the country:

FedEx Custom Critical

Passport Auto Transport

800-325-4267

You can call them and get a quote. They are enclosed trailers that hold about 6 cars.

Hubbs and I have used Passport/FedEx for several of our toys. They are very good :yup:

And??? So what are you gripping over then? They would let you just pay the $200 bucks! Then what is your point? Isn't this what I have been saying? Depending on the dealer it can range from $200 - $750.

So you are cool with just paying your dealer the $200 bucks, but it not's cool someone else has to pay the $200 bucks? What are you saying Orange Boy? :hysterical:

Thanks for the information. I am not trying to make a big deal out of this, but I know far more about this car than MOST salespeople, and I had to provide the PDI information to the small dealer in St Helens where I ordered my car. I never left the cars side during the full PDI, so I know what they did and how long it took. I agree that they all need to get paid for there services, I just think that $600 to $750 is steep....that's all.

I agree with you! It is very steep! That is why I suggested he call around ahead of time so he is not hit with any surprises. Then he can arrange to have it shipped to the dealer that will charge a reasonable fee.

As long as the car has not been scheduled yet the dealer can have it drop shipped from Ford directly to any dealer at no extra cost, other than whatever the other dealer you have it shipped to will charge for a curtousey delivery.

That shouldn't cost but $200 - $300.

This would be by far the cheapest way to go.

The dealer just needs to add the dealer's address as the ship to address that you want it drop shipped to on the order.

The invoice will show your dealer as the sold to dealer and the dealer it is being shipped to as the ship to dealer.
