Ran the GT500 at the track this weekend.

I was at the Canadian Street Car Nationals this weekend. I took Friday afternoon off to trailer my Bullitt to the track and blast a couple /few time trials. First pass off the trailer 11.6 @ 122 and left spinning. I lowered tire pressure a tad, launched at 5500rpms on the two step and the car hooked hard. Shifting third to fourth I left my tranny at about the 1000' mark. Now I've already paid to run so I think WTH, it's brackets I'll run the GT500.

I made a total of about six passes. I ran in total street trim including some junk in the trunk and 23 psi in the stock Goodyears. I was pleasntly suprised.

My best run was with a

60' of 2.01

ET 12.34

MPH 118.3

and the car was dead on consistent leaving at around 1400 rpms. I did make it to the third round before breaking out while running a truck.

what mods have you done to your car to get those kind of times?

CAI, Flowmasters, SCT handheld, and a pulley without the idler which is only getting me 10#'s of boost.

I have to say though that driving this car down the track is effortless. My Bullitt at low-mid 11's consists of hard launches, really nailing the geras and such whereas I could drink a coffee driving the Shelby down the track to a 12.3 on street tires. Perhaps once I start running on slicks things will change but for the time being it really is effortless.

Sounds like you have 1/4 mile experience. I'm having a tough time launching good. If I have T/C on and launch around 3500 rpm, the car bogs down really bad. If I launch with T/C off (about 2000) I get wheel spin and have to feather the throttle. Can you pass along any advice that you are doing to get a good (quick) launch. thanks

I turn the TC off and launch from idle. Roll into the throttle and once you feel the tires have grip squeeze the throttle to the floor. Be careful on your shift to 2nd, if you just bang the gear the car will break loose. Use the same principals into 2nd and once you have grip floor it again. After that you're good to go.

Now that I have the idle launch down I will try to bring the revs up and slip the clutch. Should give me some wheel hop but if I can get the 60' down into 1.9 I think my car can run 11's in street trim.

Thanks, I will work on it. Do you have any mods? 12.3 on street tires is great (if no mods). My thinking is that you need to launch hard and quick for good ET's, but I guess not, if you are leaving at idle, and still getting those #'s.
