rpretzel
I was wondering how much insurance is going to cost on this Shelby? I'm afraid to ask. I did a quote on the Geico website, and they quoted $1,000/year (Colorado). No tickets or accidents and driving 1 day/week to work. Of course, that's before Ford upped the hp to 500. I'm going to check with my normal insurance guy to see if I can do better since we have multiple cars and our homeowner's insurance through him. sbornitz
I was wondering how much insurance is going to cost on this Shelby? I'm afraid to ask. State Farm quoted me $340/6 mo based on a 2006 mustang GT with a value of $45k. That was at 5,000 miles a year and not driven to work.
flattusmaximus78
Eeek thats terrible, but the rides worth it... it will be one hell of a fun car and theres no getting around that!
VNMOUS1
State Farm quoted me $340/6 mo based on a 2006 mustang GT with a value of $45k. That was at 5,000 miles a year and not driven to work. My State Farm guy thinks it'll be somewhat more than my Z06. I was shocked...and of course questioned it. Here is the reasoning (and I have to admit, it seems sound, although I certainly don't like it): Insurance is based greatly, if not solely, on loss data. Due greatly to a Corvette's significantly higher entry price and MUCH higher average driver/owner's age (compared to ANY Mustang over the past 20 years), the 'Vettes loss history is far less than Mustang's. I was paying just under $900/yr for high enough coverage to keep the lease company happy, with $500 ded on both collision and comp. Less than 7500 miles per year, driven to work or school, garaged in a secured and alarmed spot, in Chicago (loop area). I am well over 45 years of age...married...no driving kids....no tix...no accidents. He's guessing the same parameters will result in a $1200/yr premium. gt5001
If you have to ask the price, can you really afford it.....? A friend just purchased a Ford GT (at MSRP, I might add) and I recall him saying his insurance on that machine probably would be about $4000 a year. Not sure what mileage, week-day driving restrictions, if any, that included. If you get insurance on a GT500 for under $1000, you must have one H%@# of a good agent. shelbang
I plan on driving my car (pleasure use) on weekends and nice summer weeknights. Maybe 5-8k miles/kilometers a year. More like a collectable/show car and not a daily commuter. I am concerned of two things #1 = car is stolen and not recovered #2 = a total collsion rightoff I believe that right off the hop the value of this car is more than MSRP and I also believe that if well maintained the value would go up year after year. With that said I would prefer to insure the car on an appraisal basis. I would say for certain that any insurance company would not and could not replace a car like this. Should the unthinkable happen I know that at least I would get what the car is really worth and not the wholesale/blackbook value. Does anyone know if collector car insurance companies like Hagerty etc. would handle this car? or if your home/auto co. would insure on an appraided value ? Joe G
I believe that right off the hop the value of this car is more than MSRP and I also believe that if well maintained the value would go up year after year. That's what everyone who's paying (pick your multiple of $10k) over MSRP is hoping, but it's not going to happen. Everyone needs to stop speculating on the "collectability" of these cars. Again, look at the Ford GT - the guys who paid over MSRP are in the red vs. the guys who are paying MSRP now. Look at the guys selling their "used" GT's with almost no miles - again, they're not getting premiums for them yet. Collectability doesn't happen over night. It takes 10, 15, 20 years. Buy the car (for whatever price you can afford) because you want it and will enjoy it. If you're buying to "make a killing" down the road, I'm sure I can find some shares of Enron or MCI/Worldcom I want to sell to you! Save this post, and reply in 5 years - let's see the value then. Save this post, and reply in 5 years - let's see the value then. there is not much to speculate here. this car is without doubt already a legend and its not even on the road. I for one would not buy it if it wasn't a Shelby nor would many others whether they want to admit to that publicly or not. That said I am going to drive my car for pure pleasure and hopefully for the rest of my life here on this earth. I don't need much more. Family first, cars second. As far as making a killing, I have no intention to ever sell it unless it has some major underlying flaws like say the Pinto. So rest assure the thought of making a killing does not even factor in. On a personal note I buy, build sell and rent property and I got a say it's just a living not a killing, maybe I should try enron, you think thats the way to go? ha ha The point I was trying to say is that I never want to be underinsured insured for collision, theft etc. for any vehicle let alone a future collector like a shelby. You see I can afford this car, thats not the issue here but should my car get stolen or written off I just couldn't stomach my insurance co. squaring me up with say $30k ( depreciated book value ) or less down the road. Anyhow when I know for certain the car is in transit to me I will hunt for the best insurance money can buy.

lucky
I was wondering how much insurance is going to cost on this Shelby? I'm afraid to ask. When the VIN #'s came out, I called my insurance (NationWide in W.V.) about how much it would be. I'm 31 and married and my agent told me it would be $285 total w/ my 05 lancer as well. So, my insurance will only go up around $85-90 dollars from what I'm currently paying. I was expecting a lot higher. Hope that helps.
Fordrules
I believe I read a number like Ford sells 150,000 Mustangs per year. If that is correct, a 9000 top model production number leaves a lot of fellas looking to buy a used one.... and what about the fact that 65s are outstanding but 64 1/2 's are the bomb! Year of production is where it is at.

Black Sunshine
I had my carrier (State Farm) quote me a Z06 'Vette in order to get a rough idea where I would be at. To clarify, I'm 32, single, no MVAs, and I think Hurricane Katrina wiped out my speeding ticket on file at the coast last year. I was told about $550 extra every 6 months on a Z06, probably less for a GT500. I must ask, why is it that single guys have higher rates? 'Cuz we're gonna these around trying to pick up ?
