chuckstang
On my way up to Fun Ford weekend, there was some unpaved highway that I had no choice but to travel on and was very carefull but when I got to the show and started cleaning my car, I noticed just above my right vent on the hood, 2 good sized stone chips and another one on the leading edge of the hood Should I just leave them alone, will more paint keep chipping away, should I have a pro add some touch up paint? What would you do? Also: -I noticed a small dinger on my passenger side door, would you guys leave it alone or risk having a pdr guy remove it? The thing is I don't even drive it places, just out for a spin and back to the garage ahah -On the lower plastic diffuser towards the side beneath the red reflector, the black is faded whiteish in color and I tried using the common plastic/vinyl stuff but would not make it black again. Is there anything to bring back the black color, its about a foot or 2 of area that is just faded already? I have only had my car a month and I feel like it is falling apart. Only 1000 miles and so much destruction already thanks guys and there was a few other GT500s there but none seemed to be from the site, I kept asking people, are you a member on stangsunleashed, they would look at me funny and then blurt out, ahhhh no. Have a pro fix the chips, and you will be happy again. What do you mean by Dinger. Is it a small dent ? If so....have a pro fix it. Try Ice on your black stuff.....it works great. Sorry you're having the bad luck.

6-Speed
Chuckstang: I was reading through the owner's manual and encountered this warning in the waxing section: "Do not allow paint sealant to come in contact with any non-body (low-gloss black) colored trim, such as grained door handles, roof racks, bumpers, side moldings, mirror housings or the windshield cowl area. The paint sealant will “gray” or stain the parts over time." Did you have any paint sealant (i.e. Motorcraft Paint Sealant ZC-45) applied to your car? This warning implies a long-term effect. You say you've only had the car for a month; I wouldn't think sealant would affect the plastic parts that quickly.
Lutzcat
Chuck, my plans are every 6 months to get a pro, as Grabber said, to repair and touch up any dings. You'll get more. So it's better to wait to get um done all at once. Then twice a year you'll be good as new. Scott
chuckstang
Some pros and just friends have told me that sometimes more damage or should I say you can cause more trouble by adding touch up paint or removing dingers. I guess the down side to touch up paint is that you get that dam bubble or it doesnt match perfectly. The down side to the dinger removal would be I guess any scratches or tears they may cause to get at the dent. As far as the plastic part, I had a pro detail it and I guess I can ask him but it is just in this one spot, I do have turtle wax ICE and I will try that, did not even think of that. I know I am anal but man these cars attract the worst luck. But on a good note, the drive up to the show rocked, this car is awsome to drive, so at least from the drivers seat, all is good. Also I notice a slight increase in power with the switch to the SGT mufflers. My car is stock so maybe that is why I felt an increase, also, they each weigh 10 pounds less so thats about 20 pounds off the rear tires. thanks guys for any comments/tips
chuckstang
Oh, and should I supply the paint to who ever does the work if I decide to do that? I would imagine just pick up some black Ford touch up paint. I would rather not take it directly to Ford since they will probably charge alot more than my local shop that I have a relationship with already. The nearest quality Ford dealer to me is Tasca which is not close to home. I used that touch up paint on my old Cobra with the lil brush it comes with and wow does that ever suck! It made the spot worse than before. Hopefully there is a better way to do touch ups than that. As for the dinger, I may call that 800 number and have a dinger pro come to my house that way I can watch and observe
Grabber
How did you get the dinger ? A pro will touch up the spots and then lightly buff it, and you will not know it was there....allmost.
TexasShelby
I feel your pain... I ended up with a couple little chips in the hood just a few weeks after mine came in. Instead of actually repaving streets in my fair city, they just throw down large gravel, and cover it with some tar, and then have the traffic actually pack it down. Both the gravel and the tar (I have the fastest color, white) are just great for the car. Some guys on here have gone to the clear 3M type bra to protect the front end of their cars. Although, if your chips was much higher up on the hood, that still would have not made much difference. I use ICE paste and liquid on all my black plastic trim and pieces under the hood and it works great. I had a small (but even) drag on the front splitter just after I got the car and left the front a little jagged. I very lightly and slowly took a dremel and smoothed it out. You would have to really look hard to even notice now. And if you don't know, they are about $60 new.
chuckstang
The dinger must have came from a car show? I am more than careful with this car to the point where my friends and family literally think I need help! sh** happens but I just want to know the best ways to fix it. thanks

TexasShelby
Why is it that the crappy cars never get dinged, but we can park our Shelby way out in the middle of nowhere and some huge dually will crowd up right next to us? Got that right.... I had two get on each side of me at Best Buy the other day and it was at least 10 spaces to the next car... They thought they were funny...and one guy even wanted to race in his dually, monster, bubba truck... I love to see the Tundra pickups, just about every one of them try to race....I just laugh hard enough where they can see me as they zoom by. regalt87
It is time consuming but you can pre clean the area with wax and grease remover and then take a little bit of base coat paint to add color back into the chip and then mix clear with harderer and dab-fill the chip just a tad over the level of the surface of the paint. Let it kick 24 hours and wet sand the area with 2500 grit until level and buff with medium cut compound and then a polish. (dark color cars will require a foam pad after the polish stage to get the swirls out) Its not perfict, high metalic cars will most likely still show the repaired area. Solid color cars will not look quite as bad. Better than a chip that will always fill with wax and eventually rust or corrode depending what pannel it's on. A new car dealer should have a paintless dent repair guy they use who could come to your house for about $150.00 and pop out you door ding. I have seen them work wonders on some dents before. 69b302
, I noticed just above my right vent on the hood, 2 good sized stone chips and another one on the leading edge of the hood Should I just leave them alone, will more paint keep chipping away, should I have a pro add some touch up paint? What would you do? Would a strip kit cover the chips? Cost of stripes versus a good repair are pretty close. To do a good repair, the chip would have to be fixed and sprayed with color, and then entire panel will need to be cleared coated. You can also get some touch up paint and some very fine artist paint brushes. You need to have a very steady hand, but can fill the chip evenly and it will be very hard to notice(you of course will know it is there). I agree with others, no matter how far out I park my car, some persons pulls in next to me.

BLU_WHT
I had 2 people (both worked for dealerships) tell me to touch up paint, use the torn end of a match from a match book. It allows you to put it out thin and not leave a bubble behind. I saw a demonstration to get out a small dent. Heat the area with a hair dryer, then spray the area with compressed air from can (the kind you might use to clean your computer). Suprisingly it pops right out.
